Fun hammock but not my go-to hammock.
I'm more comfortable in a gathered end.
Shug
Layering is not that hard to do if that becomes your choice.
Nor is venting a UQ.
Down to you now......

Sorry for late response.
Hammocks are still very misunderstood.
When at campgrounds I use my Tensa stand to avoid any to-do with someone put in charge that may not be familiar with all policies.
Thus why I backpack on...
A figure 8 wrap secured with a slippery half hitch does it for me.

The Tensa comes with a head-tether now...so just use that and you will not mousetrap.
Yes, I tried a taco.

Usually the tree.

I've hung my XLC several times on my Tensa 4.
It takes a bit if messing about with it to find the right spot from hammock to hammock. Adjusting base width, proper base pole orientation, and length....
Brilliant and top craftmanship!!!!!
Your place looks fantastic.
Whoooooo Buddy))))))

I have a soft fleece (not neoprene) facemask that I use covers nose but lets me breathe. I love it. Really hard to find all fleece ones these days.
Really treasure mine.

Nothing wrong with going Amok right off. It is very different than a gathered end hammock anyways.
Fun hammock.

I add my clothing during the night as I get up to pee.
When crawling in I take off layers. Then when I get up...I add my orage jacket around 4 or 5 am. That way I am ready for "breakfast from the...

Blackbird, Blackbird...
You could always try to skew your suspension toward your foot area. I show that at 2:40 in video below.
May help. Also make sure the UQ is at your shoulders and not way up under your head....
I think you need to see if Winter backpacking takes for you or not before you get that 0º.
Just my 3¢ worth.
Layering works. Just put the thinner width TQ inside the other.

You may need to be the one to create the Hang.
Do it and they may come.

Lets hope they don't go driving off in the truck~~!! Haaa......
Tough to get a snoozing firefighter out of a hammock.
Enjoy.

Put them in the dryer if you have one on fluff or very low heat for a short while. It will possibly help fluff.
Then make sure to migrate the down.
Good luck.

Nothing like a good cozy swaddle and a hare and a blessing.

I lay mine on an 8 foot table and go at it. Spread it open with dumbbells holding it.

Everything I have mailed out USPS this Holiday season has made it to it's intended destination. Albeit a couple were a bit late.
Things mailed to me have all arrived.
I give them credit for being...
They help to keep the wind from robbing built-up heat in the UQ.

Another thing is to get 900 goose down and light UL fabrics. That would save some weight.
Shug
I don't wear mukluks above freezing.
I would recommend a really good pair of Winter boots.
Seen too many a cold set of toes ruin a trip for folks.
Stacking UQs works well.
Down pants are good but I'd get a good shell pant that you...
Most all of my UQ suspensions are just shockcord double the length of the UQ plus and two mini-biners. No way that is even close half a pound!
Though I still also use the shockcord off of just the 4...
Hope you try a bit more.
Could be the fabric of your hammock.
Could be length.
Could be suspension distance.
Thus, the Hammock Learning Curve.

Those external poles will catch the snow here in Minnesota as they create a flat spot. In winter the internal pole is much much better for shedding snow.

Wild River SP has backpacking sites that are pretty good. Afton State Park too.
Good place to practice with your Winter set-up.
Shug
I would not count on them to keep you warm in Winter for sleeping. Especially when you start hitting 0º and below. Double up and layer your sleeping gear if you can. Hot water bottle is more...
That 6th photo...the one with the distant fire and hammock rig to the right in shadow gave me chills. Just stunning. Looks like a painting.
Shug
Real nice of you~~
I have had good luck with both but reckon I lean towards horizontal. A bit easier to migrate the down right where yo want it.

I am going canoe I think. But I'll rent the first few times out.
Thanks. We talked for an hour and a half in the green room after the broadcast. Looks like I have a canoe trip with Dennis, Kevin and James coming in Canada sometime!!!! At least it was discussed.
...
If he gets a UQ, I get a canoe!
You can still watch it non-live~~~~
Good to meet you and put a face to a name.
Yes!
A fatback sandwich on white bread with Dukes mayonnaise. A fried tomato and egg .Goodness Gracious.

In the wind and snow I unhook my snow stakes and let them set then attach the tarp. Works well.
