I've done this one before and it's awesome. We are to be breaking ground on our new house this week so I doubt if it's possible for me. We'll see! I really want to go.

We stayed in Oak Mountain state park in Birmingham once on the way to Fla. Right off the interstate and feels like in the middle of nowhere. Check it out on www.googlemaps.com
I've only been to one when they use to do it at the buffalo river. I can tell you this group is very welcoming and helpful. Go have a great time. If I can get off work I will plan to be there. ...
Like slvr said I like the cozyness of it. I think I sleep better with the feeling of being encapsulated.
As slvr said, the general consensus is bridge hammock = side sleep. I'm a side sleeper in a bed also and I can semi-side sleep in a traditional hammock. Not as much as a bed though. I weigh too...
I would agree to befriend/evaluate your neighbors. Then you may have a sense of whether your stuff is safe or not.
I agree that comparing a human limb to a tree does not prove anything. Soft tissue vs wood? To the second part of your post, I don't think anyone is starting a "tree hugger" organization. However...
hoping to make it. If so it will be saturday afternoon. We plan to stay til monday or tuesday. Unfortunately we don't get off work til saturday morning at 7

I'll take it if the other deal falls through.
Does it come with both the stuff sack and the storage sack?
Well you've heard all the definitions of cheap so i'll skip that lecture . Seriously i had to learn to sleep in my hammock and still I have nights that don't offer the sleep I require. ...
When you sleep outside with your daughters new boyfriend instead of inside the camper with your wife because you are trying to make a new hammock convert.
Pretty sure I missed my opportunity for a journey like that. Bad knees and all. I wish you the best!
Congrats y'all!!
yeehaa, gonna definitely try to make it. It's my wife's spring break so I'm gonna beg her to go with me.
I completely understand why Ga. has a lot especially the north Ga. mountain area. It's an incredible place. I also love the Ozarks and further east. We've been doing a fair amount of hanging...
Any ideas about the Kyle Landing hang. It's been a year and 2 days since the last post started.
I'm hoping it will fall on my days off this year. Love that place!
NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! I'm a bit of a thrill seeker but... NO!
WHAT THE HECK IS YMMV? I've tried to figure it out on my own and I guess I'm just too stupid. I make a motion to abolish ALL acronyms in the US there are way too many in my life and my ability to...
Shug is my hero, he's in his 50's and can out hike most everyone I know. I can appreciate his carefree, childlike humor and as a bonus my wife watches me sit in my recliner and laugh...she enjoys...
schweeet!!!
I have stayed at Elkmont several times and absolutly love it,
Looks good Mike. I've been wanting to try that. I don't think I have the intestinal fortitude.
Hey "nutsack" nobody cares about your dates!
alright y'all its been a whole 24 hours since it ended...where's the report? I can't live vicariously through your hang w/o pics. :shades:
One thing to consider, if you are in the convenience of your own back yard, it makes it easy to give up. If you are far enough away you'll be more likely to try to "figure it out". You didn't...
I'll take 2 sets please and thank you for this.
If you can camp in the park but not on the AT and the AT runs right through the park, what's the limits of the AT? Is it the 3' width of the trail itself or is it as far as you can see laterally...
I've always wanted to do a section hike on the at...1 mile WOOO HOOOO! I'm off to a good start.
Man, I'm intrigued and I don't know why. I'm trying to figure out the idea of kilts. I just don't think I could explain wearing a dress to anybody I know.
schweet!!!!
That's exactly what I want to do. Just aint found the intestinal fortitude to pull the trigger.
Way to jump in with both feet! woo hoo!
I've never tried one but i have two friends who have them and love them.
Thanks for the pics y'all. Wish I could have made it. Maybe next year.
I first made mine the 10 1/2' but my 12' tarp was an issue so I made bought another top rail and made mine 13'. Now I'm happy all the day.
Y'all are speaking my language. I'm 6' and 315#. I have a uq that's 42" wide and have to fiddle with it all night. My go to hammock is one made by "Breyman" last year. It's 11' and I think 64"...
I have seen cars down there. Last year they had just graded the road all the way down and it was fine.
Not sure how to copy and paste a pic but go to googlemaps.com and type in Kyles landing rd., Harrison Ar. It'll pull it right up
Sites will be first come first serve. There is a large area on the right as you get to the bottom of the hill that will hold most of the people. Some will be hanging on the left as you enter the...
schweet!!!
Jbog glad you enjoyed yourself. Just imagine how awesome it will be when you get to sleep.
Very cool! I wish I'd known about hammock camping when my kids were younger. It's hard to get them out of our toy hauler now...them and their momma. :D
I too would like to see the progress on...
Just fyi, I have an 11' hammock and 12' tarp. the tarp does touch the hammock suspension when no one is in it but as soon as I get in...the weight pulls it down and they don't touch any more. Love...
(insert treble clef)
"Oh what a night...
late in winter, in February",
What a very special
time for me...
what a ha-ng
what a night!
I'll be joining y'all too. The mild weather is more than I can stand. Hoping for a restful slumber. Catch y'all in the AM.
I would prefer two. Either way you go you have to have 3 trees properly spaced apart. On the shared tree you could set up you tree straps where the tie off points are on either side of the tree so...
lol :D  :D
