I wouldn't use the end caps to attach suspension. I had it snap on me after a few uses and down I went. It's cheap cast metal.

Nice videos! I got a friend that is stationed out there in Yokosuka. He is on the USS Blue Ridge.
Wonder if you could set this up at the Davis pond campsite at Prentice Cooper?
Yeah dude I have vacation time in mid April. Keep us posted.
Welcome from Chattanooga! My mothers side of the family had a castle in Aberdeen. Hope to visit one day.

here is one of the I beams. They were built with some scraps my dad had laying around. So they aren't quite long enough or even but they work.
Solved the walking legs problem. My dad helped make me "I" beams for the bottom of the stand. Works perfectly now. I will try to post a pic later.
Thanks Hppyfngy! Going to give that a try. And the shoulder squeeze may have been due to the slipping of the hammock and me sliding toward the end and getting in more of a banana position than...
Former western Kentuckian here. Those shots are beautiful!
Also has anyone had trouble with the legs walking them selves back together? Had that happen once or twice.
94336 here is the one my dad built me as a birthday present. It is awesome! However I did have a major failure with it. Was using the chain link end caps to attach the carabiner and the end cap...
Great trip report! Those photos, especially the last one, are amazing!
Welcome from chattanooga!
Balled up small cheap fleece blanket. Keeps my shoulders warm right where the UQ stops. And it conforms to my neck and head. Regular pillows cause me to have a stiff neck.
Thanks everyone. I'm going to call the visitor center regarding permits and may just have to look into getting or borrowing a nice thick air pad for the shelters. My 4 inch memory foam has me a...
FIMB I am walking on the treadmill with a pretty good incline on it. Doing some kettle bell exercises. My legs are sore as we speak. I'm going to get some over nights in on my days off before I go....
Thanks JuneBug. I will ask the ranger about the permits. The coldest I have been down to is 22* with improper equipment. I bout froze to death. But now cold weather shouldn't be a problem. Just more...

It will work in theory. I have a cheapy Coleman sleeping bag with a zippered foot box. The top of it was a regular rectangle. What happens is there is nothing to close the gap underneath you. So air...
Excellent report! Very detailed. I think I need to plan a trip to Michigan now.
My first thought was a traditional camper with hooks in a wall. But I like your idea. Like you and others have said it may not be cost effective for you and a retro fit kit would be awesome. I have...
Thanks for the vid Shug! I'm going to have to do the tensioner thing to my tarp lines. Love them boiled peanuts! Little flea market down the street from me sells them by the gallon.
Welcome from TN!
Dibs on second if the first does not go through.

Sweet report! Your pics are awesome! I'm thinking about doing my first kayak camping trip soon.
That's awesome! Beautiful pics.
Yeah if I didn't list it I didn't think it was good for a hammock. If you have a stand pick any site you want.
The "rain" you experienced may have been the dew setting in a falling off the trees. Like everyone else said, it's not a ail but a learning experience.
I hade plenty of strap left over. So 6 ft might be fine.
I think my straps are about 12 ft. They were plenty long enough for probably 95% of the trees there. I also have like 6 ft. whoopies slings too.
No problem. At the time they J-N loops were closed for maintenance so the gate was closed. It was a nice walk with no people around. J-N is supposed to be open now.
One last thing. There is an amphitheater where rangers do presentations for the public. Check the GSMNP website for the schedule. A couple of years ago I saw one on the Cherokee Indians. It was...
Also the park service is renovating the ghost town summer home cabins of the elkmont logging community. The clubhouse is done and special events are able to be held there. There is a bathroom and the...
Ok so I was more tired than I thought when I got home last night. Here are the rest of the loops.
Loop G

Site 2 2-3 spots at the back of the site near the...

Sounds like a good time. I will be watching this thread. If I have time off I will try to make it.
