These are fantastic! You have a great eye.
Unfortunately I'm pulling out this weekend too. Gonna be in East Tn. I camped Pate Hollow last Tuesday night, plenty of water, if that helps.
Catch y'all next time.
Nice! I just finished my first one also.
Man, just order some material and dig in! Worst case scenario you're out $20 in material. I made a HUGE error and still came out ok..
Thanks guys. My issue was that I intended to square it (which I did) and cut it off at 11'8" to give me plenty of seam allowance. What I actually did was cut it at 10' 8" (a ful 1 foot short!) So...

Its a Hexon 2.4 that I bought from Dutch. I needed something strong for a heavy guy, and I didn't want to try a 2 layer hammock. I squared off the ends of the material and cut it to 11'...
I'm planning on hiking Lower Cammerer / Gabes Mt / OST the second week of January. Then the last part of the month finish the Lakeshore trails.
I hiked the Low Gap trail in October and camped on a ridge that was a great site.
No I didn't clean it. It's just gonna air out as I use it. Right now it's sitting in a tote with my UQ. So I guess essentially it's gonna stink above and below. Oh well.
I can't wait to jump in!
Can't wait!
I chose this fabric because I've read it's pretty soft. I got the heavy fabric because I'm a BIG guy. It shipped yesterday, so I know what I'll be doing Christmas eve, sorry kids.
Thanks for the advise! I will definitely practice making a couple stuff sacks.
With the forecasted rain the shelters "may" fill up. Also, when its forecast to be 40 in the lower elevations you will get snow up top. Last week the road to NFG was closed for a day for snow/ice...
Welcome from a fellow east tn hanger. Hiking season is just starting!
Welcome from a fellow hoosier hanger. I like the deam area also and camp there a few times a year. Morgan Monroe has some good hanging areas and isn't too far from Plainfield.
My HG20 has the same smell. Funny because I commented to the wife that it smells like an old wet dog. Doesn't really bother me either. I just hope it doesn't attract a hungry bear.
Nice! I'm waiting on my order of hexon 2.4 to start my first diy. Was it hard to sew in a straight line? I have zero experience. Hoping the wife will hover over and point me in the right...
Just pulled the trigger and I'm gonna build a knotty gathered end hammock. I've got some Hexon 2.4 on the way from Dutch. Can't wait. I'll post pics as I go. Also, I have zero experience with...
I'd love to meet some fellow hoosier hangers. But I'm gonna be hiking/hanging in east tennessee during this event. Hope to meet some of you at the spring hoosier hang.
I would think there will be snow. Last year we had snow starting on halloween all the way thru the end of march. I personally like hiking it when there is snow!
You're gonna have to stay in...
I got the bags and they are great. Silnylon. I also ordered a snakeskin.
I'm looking at this same kit to make a summer tarp. I wonder how the silpoly compares to the silnylon of the superfly.
I use a giant piece of tyvec if the ground is wet, otherwise nothing.
Wow! -19, that's cooooold buddy. I did 23 the other night and had it buttoned down tight. It was windy, but warm. With little to no wind I would be in porch mode.

I set mine up in porch mode when it's hot out. I just tie the doors together length-wise. Check out Shug's video on setting it up using hiking poles. I also just bought the pole mod, it was nice...
Cool! Thanks for the heads up!
I also use separate lines with no hardware. Fast, easy, and light. I just recently started using Dutch's pole mod so I may start to experiment with a CRL above the tarp to support the poles.
Thanks for this great video! I made 2 sets last night following your instructions. Also made several continuous loops.
Thank you for posting this testing. I've been wondering how to do this myself. I'd be interested to see where, and at what point, a failure occurs using 1" polyester webbing connected to 7/64...
No, Just wanted to shoot a pic before hiding it all under the fly.
I have the same rig, minus the top cover. I used the 3 season yeti last night in 23 degrees and it was fine.
I got my Burrow 20 in the mail yesterday and the weather last night was ideal for testing it. The temp got down to 23 and the quilt performed very well. I wore my base layer and good socks. I set...
I bought the Hennessy XLs for mine. They fit very well. 2.4 ozs. I also use a set for my fly.

Thanks guys. Looking forward to the spring hang.
I have the same rig. It's a really comfortable hang!
How did it perform in colder weather? Did the down in the footbox stay in place? Very nice work, thank you for posting.
Cool find! I ordered some drawstring bags from him.
I'd be up for that, if I can get a kitchen pass.
Are these all in the Deam Wilderness? I've hiked in there many times but don't recognize those areas. I usually camp on the peninsula or over the cave.
Also, the weekend before Easter would be...
Looks like good quality work! Very well thought out.
I hiked LowGap last week and got caught up in the reroute. I might be interested in joining when you hike the TT.
Curious about this myself. Did you get any additional information? 16 miles in a day doesn't leave much time for sightseeing. At least there isn't much elevation change.
Where do you guys typically do your spring hang? I'd love to join in.
The standard webbing/buckles are more than adequate. I've never had any issues with mine.
Budget? I'd like to stay in SPs or Natl Parks on the road.
Fillmore Indiana. But I hike not too far northwest of you in the Charles Deam Wilderness area.
New to hanging and I love it! Getting ready to do a trip to northern California and plan to hang the whole way out and back. Any tips or suggestions?
