I had Amsteel outside year round for 3+ years and it was still in good condition when I took it down.
Lock stitching is shown on the second page...https://samsonrope.com/docs/default-source/splice-instructions/12strand_c2_end_for_end_web.pdf?sfvrsn=25bec1f7_2
I use a single strand of amsteel for...
No need to take the load off of the lock stitching since there shouldn't be any to start with. As stated in post #14 "The lock stitch is there to hold the bury in place while there is no load on the...
Yes, the knob next to the Singer badge is the stitch length adjustment.
All steel, yes. Great machine, yes. All steel gears, yes, but the only gears in a Singer model 66 are the two in the bobbin winder.
For an fixed splice (eye, CL, etc.) the bury length is "marked" on the free end being buried so an 8" bury would have 8" of rope buried while the outer sheath covering that bury started off as ~10"...
I'm just a rec climber as well. I haven't climbed much this year but need to get back into it.
I've still got ~7 trees within 300' of my house with pull lines left in them just waiting on me.
No formula that I know of.
A little 'trial and error' will quickly provide the info you need. Just do a few plain buries without locked brummels so you can pull them back out without losing any...
Lol...Read the title and thought 'tree climber'. :thumbup1: Welcome to HF.
I've probably tried it as well as many other friction hitches with my Hitch Hiker and Rope Wrench.
You can shorten the suspension triangles some. It does increase the forces on the spreader bars a bit and the hammock becomes a little more unstable but is still good.
We played with this 6 years...
The photo viewer on your computer is auto rotating the photos but the photo file is still oriented sideways. Hit save or 'save as' on your computer while it is being displayed correctly and the file...
After watching the video in post #6, I thought I should clarify that my assembly advise applies when using a 'union fitting' to connect the two halves of the cross bar while the 'coupler fitting'...
I never figured this policy out in the short period I helped moderate HF's.
Other vBulletin powered forums I frequent usually leave a "Moved" message behind and often a link. I'm guessing it is a...
Assemble both halves of the stand and then connect the union fitting in the center of the cross bar.
Ummm...we are all replying to a 7 year old thread.
I do simple rolled hems by hand. Video...https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/showthread.php/76731-Is-a-rolled-hem-foot-necessary?p=1078404#post1078404
I will usually use pins when I'm joining two...
It has to lay flat with the rigid "human" model. Try it with a flexible model like a washcloth rolled up or one sock stuffed inside another.
Yes and you are correct in your understanding.
Welcome to HF from Columbus, IN.
Dutch Biners and Titanium Cinch Buckles make a nice setup that works well with the RR suspension. It shortens the suspension a few inches and makes the straps or dogbones easily removeable

You can also remove the bobbin as it is not needed.

Not an important consideration since the load is shared between the "two" sides of the whoopie loop. There just isn't enough of a load to be concerned.
Nice setup and I like the top plates.
However, so that others don't misunderstand the lashing method, you only lash the pole sets once and never undo it until years later when the lashings might...
The 1317 is in the 158 model line which has a good reputation. Might try to talk them down a bit on the price just for fun.
Agreed.
The angle of those is wrong for our use. The legs would be spread out too much lowering the overall height.

The trick is to put two poles together (you will drill the male and female ends...
Cut half the strands and feed half the taper through your pulling tool so that when it's folded back on itself there is still only the thickness of a single width of zing-it.

Tubular webbing is nylon and will stretch. That is likely to be your problem. Polyester or kevlar (that you ordered) webbing is the cure.
I have two sets of the aluminum poles. I lash them together and it has worked very well for years.
72" legs spread 45" apart at the ground measure ~68" from top to ground.
These seem to be the best advice to me.
From your photo, the split/twist/bunching in the thread is in the top thread before the needle so the problem wouldn't be a result of anything too do with...
I use Chrome, have "checked the box" at login and am never timed out.
I'm guessing your problem comes from deleting the cookie used by the site to keep you logged in. If you are "cleaning" your...
Once again, you got by with it because you were not coming close to stressing the locked brummel to the ropes full tensile strength (and the un-buried tail was evidently long enough to keep it from...
Speaking of specific, if you're referring to a locked brummel, that is part of the construction of one method of making an eye splice and not a name for the eye splice itself. You would tie the...
At some point, the shortening of buries will cause the failure mode to change from breakage of the rope to the pull out strength of the bury.
The only way to definitively answer your questions...
Add this one for an eye splice and we have the best answer for the OP's question.
Yes, your understanding is flawed. The proper bury length for an eye splice would be the same with or without...
FWIW, the alpine butterfly can be tied around a fixed object as well. However it is easy to get wrong. If you are ever up a tree and need it, you better have practiced beforehand.

Sounds like a lot of extra bits and work.
Just secure the bury as shown here...https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/showthread.php/66163-Tutorial-How-To-Make-an-UCR

The order makes no difference when doing your own google search.
The point here is if you change your default search to Google for this forum's search engine, all you have to do is use the search...
I changed my search option to google following attroll's directions.
Then I used the standard search box at the top of the page to search for 'sap bag' and got the correct search for...
Thanks attroll. :thumbup1:
Most forum's search functions are lacking.
The google search 'sap bag site:https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/' will get results.
Aggravating? Yes, but it is reality.
Longer hammocks plus 'higher foot end' setups require longer ridgepoles and taller tripods. Build your stand to fit your hammock/setup of choice.
Pretty basic...shorten the foot end suspension and lengthen the head end suspension.
I hadn't seen Amsteel Blue with a tracer before but at $72.95 shipped for a 600' spool, the price is right...http://www.lfsmarineoutdoor.com/samson-7-64-amsteel-blue-rope-with-visible-tracer.html

Admittedly I did not read all of this thread but as to a continuous loop's (grommet) strength and the effect of bend radius on strength, read this.
7-eleven aluminum slurpee straws work well after cutting to length.
Ummm...Oops. I did not realize they are daisy chains as the description does not really discuss that fact. Rereading it, I do find the reference to "Adjustment points: 17".
Sorry for my mistake.
Come on people...you're better than that.
"Each strap measures 10 feet long and tapers from 1 inch to half an inch wide—and thanks to the Nano Weave, the bottom of the taper remains every bit as...
