Mongrel,
What kind of insulation is that? Looks tight and form fitting. Great investment!

Thanks for the great photos. I've never tried using a mat in my flex as I figured it would move around too much - us an UQ instead. The mat looks comfortable, going to try that soon!
Take a look at the Flex 180 - plenty of room for your shoulders!
Unfortunately the middle does pop up and separates the two sides. If you look at my pictures under my profile, you can see a picture of my girls sleeping side by side in it. Happy hanging!
Thanks for the kind words Tony!
I haven't slept in it with someone else in this configuration but my girls have (8 and 10 years old). They slept like babies but of course that isn't much of a comparison to adults. I have shifted...
Consider how much you love the outdoors and then consider every future trip you take hanging in a hammock that you have second thoughts about. The extra money won't seem like much then. Regardless...
The pictures below document a very light, comfortable and easy alternate suspension system to that of the stock configuration. I absolutely love this hammock!
I just ordered some whoopie slings from JRB and plan to incorporate them also. :)
In an effort to give the spreader bar end even more stability, I modified the suspension system to include sway guy lines that go down to the base of the tree. I am very happy with this arrangement...
Purely to hold tension on my UQ so that it stays snug against the bottom of the hammock. It is actually a piece of shock cord.
Let me know how it turns out for ya...
I would say that it is a bit less stable as compared to being tied off to 3 trees, however it is very manageable. For several weekends now I've been experimenting with sleeping in different...
Sorry, I don't have my receipt anymore so I'm not sure about the UPC codes. The rings are about 1.5" OD and if memory serves me right, they were rated for at least 200 lbs each. Got them on the...
I picked up my DIY spreader bar from Lowe's. It was a 36" long, 3/4" OD, extruded aluminum tube. It was in the same section that you find angle, flat bar, round stock, etc. I cut it down to 31"...
Update: Last night it got down to 22 Deg F and we had a heavy frost so I gave my final setup another test run in the front yard. Since my original post on this thread, I picked up a JRB BMBH and...
Pommychris, you are very talented. How long did it take you to make it? Beautiful work!
Yes, the tarp is a Clark Vertex. Works very well...
Thanks to the both of ya...
Would like to build a stand-alone hammock stand for inside my house. Anyone have any designs, pictures or websites you could share? Many thanks!
Well I gave the old hiking pole a try last night and unfortunately it collapsed on me. Even though I tightened as best I could, it slipped from about 31" to about 27" which wasn't a real big deal...
Eightweight - by all means copy, copy, copy all you want. That was the purpose of the post, so that others would enjoy the mod as much as I do!
Spreader bar weight is 6.5 oz. However, I think I've figured out how to make my hiking pole work in place of the bar. I'll be working on that this weekend and will post the results.
Regarding...
Just posted a few pictures under the thread entitled "Clark Flex 180 Mods: 2 Tree Use & JRB UQ" if you are interested.
I own a Clark Flex 180 and absolutely love this hammock. It is very comfortable and roomy especially when there are (3) trees to hang it from. The problem becomes finding (3) trees that just...
