Maybe I'm trying to get too fancy, but is it possible?
Maybe some of these on the ridgeline and the tieouts, then I won't need to modify the tarp?

So I'm screwing around with my new Kelty 12, strapping the sides up to my hiking poles like you do, and suddenly this happened.

Old thread, I know, but thank you for this bit of ingeniousness. I just know the wife has a pair of 1/8th inch knitting needles she won't miss.
I use pieces of arrow shaft with a little hole in...
Yeah, I'm intending on rings to tie the other end of the strap to the hammock, and without a biner or clip I will have to rethread each time. I'll have to try it each way and see if the weight...
I wondered if convenience was the reason. I originally intended to use biners with this setup, but I think I'll try it without a couple times and see which I like better.
I've been using cam...
Cool, I'll do that. Thanks guys!
Thinking about the following setup for my tree straps. Weird stress on the webbing? Bad idea?

Adjust sag, with a ridgeline you mean? I haven't even started playing with those yet, but I'll be happy to start if you guys think it'll help.
Yes, exactly like that!
90x132 (for now).
Awesome, thanks so much guys. Off I go to read. :)
I have a good sized taffeta tablecloth that I'm experimenting with. I wasn't able to get whipped ends to hold to my satisfaction (I'm a large fellow), so I slapped a hem in each end and gathered...
Are you camping before or after the ride? If before, you might want to look into sleeping a couple nights in your back yard to get used to it. That sounds like a brutal ride and not the time to...
Second night on the Colorado - the river and my canoe are about 20 yards to the left. :D

I am in Utah, good guess :). I was just looking at the trip report from the last hang, swinging in hammocks and getting laughed at by fish sounds like a good time.
That's my plan. I've got a 132x90 tablecloth on the way to prototype with, and once I've cut it down to dimensions I like I'll decide if it's good enough or if I need to switch to silnylon or...
Anywhere up Mirror Lake Highway is always good. Might see less traffic if you drive down Skyline south of US6. The Swell will be dead empty that time of year, but it's not exactly strong on shade...
My newby setup:
Grand Trunk single backpackers hammock - $35
Klymb Static V air pad - $40
Total - $75
Not essential:
Some paracord and a blue tarp in case it rains (but it hasn't yet) - $20...
I just spent a week on the road and hung between a tree and my 4Runner a couple times when two suitable trees weren't convenient.
Not sure what I'm going to do when I get down to the red rock this...
I finally got a chance to give hammock-camping a serious try this past week, and I think I'm hooked. I've decided need a bigger hammock than the little Grand Trunk I have, and I need an underquilt...
