My girl Maggie, is 60 lbs. of Shepard/Beagle mix and she sleeps with me in the hammock (Dutch Chameleon). She's never damaged the hammock. I've got a 15degree 900 fill down top quilt and a 20 degree...
I've got a dog who can't hike too far anymore because of hip dysplasia, so canoe camping might just be what the doctor ordered for that pup!
That sounds perfect! I'm getting kind of excited about getting to visit there maybe. Even if this job falls through, maybe I can go up there just to hike and camp!
No way! I work right next door to the Mary Kay corporate building on Keller Springs! Small world! 😁
Man! Killer picture! It looks gorgeous up there. I've been checking out real estate on Zillow and I'm finding quite a few places in my price range. I haven't lived in a place with snow since I was a...
Man! Thanks so much for all the intel on the area!! I love how close I'd be to so many hammock hangers and backpackers. I'd be moving up there solo with just my dogs, so it's good to hear that...
Sounds great! Though probably better if I didn't have to spend those winters by myself. So far a few articles I've found online make me think that it's not going to be too easy to find someone. Add...
It sounds great!!
Now, to find out what the dating scene is like up there... ;)
That is just the sort of info I like to hear! :)
This is good news! Thanks for responding! :)
Brilliant!! Thanks Backpackerguy!
I'm still open to any and all other information I can get about the area from anyone familiar. I've been looking at homes on zillow just to see what the real...
I'm considering relocating to Michigan for work.
Part of my decision to move is based around the fact that I don't like where I currently live (Texas). I want snowy winters and lots of good...
Bah! Why didn't I think of that! Very nice!!
Oh, I have a few more. I'll upload them later. :)

Right on both counts! :)
I really couldn't believe my eyes to begin with. I'm sad that I didn't take any more photos the next day when the gray afternoon clouds had gone away.
It's hard...
Drove with friends from Texas to Colorado to do a bit of backpacking this Labor Day weekend. We arrived in town Friday, but didn't get to our base camp near the trailhead until late. Setup the...
Sounds great!

I think this post was made on accident... I don't remember making it.

It took a while, but I finally got my Whoooooo Buddy t-shirt selfie!!!
Thanks Shug!!!
I'd like a couple of stickers too Shug! That's what I was trying to say in my last post, but maybe the message got lost in me trying to be too cleaver. :(

Um... I still need to know where to send the SASE...
Shug! So I just learned over on Hammock Camping (on Facebook) that if I know the secret password (and a nominal fee plus an SASE) that maybe I could get a sticker or two from ya! So... ahem......
Atlas straps aren't my favorite. Regular tree straps utilizing Dutch clips and cinch buckles is what I prefer. Cinch buckles really are the key to the fine tuning.
I use these in combination with...
Welcome! If you're worried that you might hike a section of any TH where there is the possibility of no trees or otherwise suitable anchor points, might I suggest the Grand Trunk Hybrid Shelter.

I think I know who doopie is now... Since I was also at Tyler SP with NTO and I'm pretty confident I know who took that racoon picture. ;)
Here's proof... It was windybas hell!!

I'm in Texas, and I'm going out with a group this weekend, for a two night-er. The coldest temp is supposed to be 23°F and the highest temp is supposed to be 37°F. We're supposed to get some freezing...
Thanks Thumbs!! :D
Thanks MR3T! :)
Just looked up .032 ss safety wire, and it seems to be sold in one pound spools... I don't need one pound of wire.
Mostly, I just don't know what wire would work best or where to get it. I tried coat hanger wire, but it was really too stiff and slightly too thick.
Nice, biggy! I've made myself a couple of dog bones and continuous loops too! Already, I'm looking to upgrade my fish tool. I found something online last night called the D-Splicer...
Dutch is exactly where I got my amsteel from! :) Lots of interesting information in this thread. I should probably do some more reading on this stuff. :)
Thanks for all of the replies, everyone! Sorry I had not been watching the thread so closely.
This is 2.2mm zing-it line. I did lock brummel both eyes, and I did taper the ends. I didn't realize...
So I decided to make my first go at splicing a fixed length ridgeline. I used Ian Young's video on the YouTubes to guide me.
My Grand Trunk hammock is 10' long or 120". According to Ian's video,...
Welcome from Addison, TX!
We usually start out at Juniper Point and hike to somewhere around "5 mile camp". Sometimes, folks will meet up at the marina (roughly half way through the 5 mile hike) so they only have to hike 2.5...
Next week is my dad's bday, so I'm probably out for that one. Texoma is a great, easy, fun trip though. Great for training, trying out new gear, or just getting your feet wet. I'm a member of North...
I second what Dutch said. :)
I've hung from nylon, it doesn't stretch *that* much. I've talked about this in other threads. In fact earlier in *this* thread.
See posts #288 - #290 in this thread.
This was such a fun weekend!! Thanks to Uncle Mike, and everyone else who made this weekend possible!!! [emoji1]
Thanks guys! [emoji1]
Hmmm... Okay I think I may have most of that except upholstery needles.
I know nothing about splicing so I assumed that lesson #1 would be, "Here's what you need to bring". Fid? Loop tool? Might as well be Greek. Maybe I'll skip that bit until I know more. Sorry....
I've got some amsteel I was intending to use for my ridgeline. I can use a piece of that.
Good to know you're willing to sell some though. [emoji3]
What should we bring, Rat?
Haha! Thanks. It's new. Part of a lesson learned the hard way from my last backpacking trip... My old bag was just too heavy and not well suited for real backpacking.

This is it next to my Osprey Exos 58.
In hindsight I might have just DuctTaped them together. [emoji3]
Well, I used rubber cement so it would stay flexible. I fold it in half lengthwise and then roll it up. It's not too too heavy, but it is kinda bulky, and so I strap it to the outside of my pack. On...
I don't plan on using it, but I'll bring it in case anyone needs it.
