Total trail is 272 miles. Green mountain club says most through hikers do it in 26-30 days. That's around 11 miles a day at the fastest.

How many trail miles is that? Unless you're in good mountain hiking shape, I wouldn't plan on more than a mile an hour. Maybe less. That said, I did see several younger, thinner folks than me doing...

That's what I use. I cut the zipper and heavy zipper guard off to save about 6 oz. That puts it under 2lbs. I think I paid $20 for mine off Amazon without the rest of the MSS.

TL;DR: My son and I hiked Zaleski last weekend. Overall, I wasn't that impressed. But we did set a new PR for distance: 15 miles hiked on Saturday!

Braided mason line is cheap and light. Only problem is it stretches. I think it's hard to get really tight pitch with a stretchy CRL. Maybe that's my inexperience though

Pins do create holes, but in this case they are in the hem itself. That's on the very edge of the tarp. It doesn't really matter if there's a leak on the outside 1/4" of your tarp.

I "freestyled" a couple of the hems. I think next time I'd take a bit more time to pin all the hems.

Pin it; even the hem. We used a pretty small needle for most of it then switched to a larger needle for doing the tie outs.
