Looks like a great trip. The cargo wagon in one of the pics, did you guys bring that or does the park service have those to borrow for getting cargo to and from camp?

I was wondering about aluminum T-bar like this
http://www.ryerson.com/stocklist/t-1689-Aluminum-Structural-Shapes-Tees-6061-T6-Extruded-American-Standard.html
Less aluminum, so probably...
Is a "T" shape strut viable? It appears to be a bit lighter and could simplify anchor points as you could just drill through it. (would that weaken it too much?) It's also available in 25'...
If we're not hanging together, we are surely hanging separately.... and don't call me Shirley.
Where finding the perfect sag isn't such a bad thing.
Went on vacation to the beach last week and did some rudimentary testing on this. Basically, I call this one plausible.
I did not proceed to the point of hanging a hammock. All I did was put 5...
If I understand your description it sounds like the only adjustment you have is by wrapping the Dutch Clip end around the tree, so you are limited to increments of your tree diameter.
With...
If you can recall which sites were "Hammock Friendly" and note them on this list, that would be a great resource for the trail. For those who might not know, H/B stands for "Hiker / Biker" ...
Great find Cannibal! I never put it together that this was just macrame.
I don't know of any instructions.
I got the general idea from a photo someone posted here of an old Naval Hammock clew and roughly worked out how it "might" be done. Then I took a few general...
This trip is on my To-Do List so I have no first hand experience to share but if you haven't already found this site, there is a ton of helpful info on it

Typical kilts have about 4" of adjustment by means of leather straps. Even with this adjustment it is possible to take a kilt in or out a bit more (maybe another inch or so) by repositioning the...
No, but the top tube can be cold at times :scared:
Riding kilted is not something I've been interested in trying though. Mainly because I prefer lycra cycling shorts when riding, but secondly all...
Congrats!
I'm waiting on a 8 yard wool from Skye right now also in Fraser Hunting.

Should be here this week or so. I won't use it for...
Check out Skye Highland Outfitters The 4 yard PV kilts are awesome for the outdoors but if you want a really inexpensive kilt, check stillwater for their Economy or Thrifty lines.
Celtic Warrior...
Maybe pic up some Bag Balm also:scared: ..... Not sure if that's on or off topic :D
Yep, there are places and times of the year the kilt is less than preferred. In Scotland it's the midges that are the problem. That aside, there is still a majority of time and places where a kilt...
Got the buffs today! Got home from work and the family had already torn into the box and were walking around with their buffs on. They looked great.
Jeff, I wear mine over my mouth and nose when...
So you want to hike with me without my kilt on ? :D
Quote from a preacher on greeting a kilted gentleman at church:
"The Lord looks down on a man in a kilt and is proud, the devil...
I just crash in the kilt. It rides up a bit (and the blue ribbon fluttering in the wind wakes me up on breezy nights) but everything falls back in place when you roll out the next AM. But, if I'm...
Yeah, I use mine more "net down" than "net up"
I use sling rings on my setup and have no problems with my 220 lbs. Great price and the color options are icing on the cake.
I like the idea of the solid toggle. What diameter rod is that? Bought at HD? I've seen some alum. rod at HD but wasn't sure if it was too thin. I want to say I recall it being 1/8" or less.
yeah, it's only a matter of time. This liquid grip is a rubber like coating that you can paint, dip or spray on tools and it drys into a rubber grip. Perhaps the same effect could provide a...
Yeah, I didn't say it clearly in the OP but the shop here said they usually just throw them away but he could save me some. When I told him I was going to cut them into about 3" pieces he pulled out...
Just wanted to let that out to someone who would appreciate it.
I just scored a couple of aluminum arrow shafts from the local archery store for marlin spikes and toggles. Now to cut them into...
That's pretty much how I've configured my Nano except I use marlin spikes instead of the 'biners and no SRL.
I use a 10x10 as well and I prefer the Diamond pitch mainly because it allows a more open feel to being out doors. I still get a lot of protection from rain and for shade. The only time I will...
There was a time when I strung up my tarp and went through a rainy night with no problem. The following day I monkeyed with the tarp to try a higher pitch and inadvertently created a spot on the...
Yargo is the only State Park I've hung in and didn't have any problems.
Sounds like Unicoi might be a good place to schedule a group hang and invite the rangers to come out for a presentation. ...
Polyester is the best choice. On the stretch-o-meter
Polyester: -------------------------
Poly-pro: -----------------------------
Nylon: ...
I just tie an overhand knot in the end to make a loop. It wastes a couple inches but it's a no-sew way to go and hasn't failed me.
Yeah, poly-pro for me as well. Polyester would be best but I could get black Poly-pro easier and cheaper and it works about as well. I've not had any break or stretch noticeably.
I use 1" webbing which I think is right at 25mm. The small rings work fine. Don't forget to slippery hitch the webbing for the extra security.
Wandering around the house last night the thought hit me, what about old Bic pens

...
The small aluminum rings are what I use. http://slingrings.com/sunshop/index.php?action=item&id=11&prevaction=category&previd=4&prevstart=0
Ooops. Sorry about that. I believe onrope1.com has 1" cinch buckles though not as nice as the ones AHE was using.

slingrings.com will hook you up. They are sold by the pair.
That's a great modification to the nano. At some point you might want to look at swapping the carabiners with a marlin spike. It works well with my 1" polypro webbing.
It should work just fine. I use this quilt on my SkeeterBeeter Pro which is very similar in design I think. If you have more specific questions let me know but to be brief, it should work fine.
It didn't even occur to me that the size was so small. I hope I didn't give anyone the wrong impression of your slings. It was a handy visual aid is all.
So far the only thing I've been able to...
You are correct. I never looked at the larger photo to notice.
The Dead eye is the fixed loop at the top left of this photo from opies site (this sling is a 3" long key holder but the components...
This may have already been done by those more advanced in Whoopie sling technology but I haven't seen it so just thought I'd share the idea.
I was working on some whoopie slings yesterday and when...
**** Kilt Sold ****
I use the small slingrings on my hammock with 1" webbing but for a tarp I think they would be over kill. I'd probably use the plastic dee rings and incorporate a prussic and toggle on a full ridge...
slingrings.com but if it's just for a tarp you could get by with these
Here's a thread with a my comparison chart. The square footages shown don't account for cat cut dimensions but are close enough for me to compare general sizes.
...
Were you planning on other activities for during the day? Hiking, boating, site seeing,...? Between Abeville and Toccoa there are a lot of places though some may not be what you are looking for. ...
You would have to modify the netting to have hole allowing the RL to pass in and out. A member here has done this and it works really well. I forget their name or where the thread is. A small...
Took the kids up to Cow Rock for the day. Nice easy trip for short notice.
Looking toward Mountain Crossing from Cow Rock on 2/27/10....
