Nice seeing a spot in the San Gabriels that isn't trashed to pieces. Great find.

Nice seeing a spot in the San Gabriels that isn't trashed to pieces. Great find.
Excellent trip--so jealous of all your trees to hang in!
Thanks--yes, unfortunately I was so exhausted I could not fully enjoy the experience. Next time (if there is one--snow trip that is) I will not leave behind the fleece tights and down booties--with...
By the way, it may just be me, but I think your picture links may be broken.[/QUOTE]
Sorry--Not just you--I loaded them up using the link from my gallery. Not sure why they don't show. I've had...
My overnight trip to the local mountains on 1/26-27 would have been excellent, were it not for unforeseen trail conditions (VERY deep snow). A 2- mile hike in turned into a 4 hour ordeal for me,...
Don't despair! I had to drive two hours in horrible Friday night rush hour traffic to get to my first hang! And it was soooooo worth it!
In fact, all the places to camp with trees are an hour or...
You bet! That and not sleeping on the ground were my primary motivations for switching to hammocks. But one hang made a complete convert of me. It was so dreamy laying in that thing.
I will have a report on my Zeppelin 20 after this weekend! It will be its maiden voyage.:)
How do you like it? What temps have you used it in?
Spectacular! What a gorgeous area. Thanks for sharing it!
Looks like a fun trip. Always nice to see the youngsters getting out. And Wow--now that's somewhere I never thought of going and it's not a bad drive from where I live. Will have to check that out...
You guys sure know how to make the most of it! Looks like a swell time. I saw Shug's video, too. By hauling in your gear on pulks I guess you can take pretty much what you want in the way of gear and...
Top Quilt for summer
3/4 UQ for summer
Bigger tarp--probably Big Mamba Jamba
Hee hee! And it's still winter!
Some great suggestions here and I would not let cold hold you back!
I went on my first WBBB hang last Oct. I was terrified about being cold, but what I did worked out fine. It got down to about 37...
Thanks! I am probably being over-cautious because it's my first foul weather hang. But I am actually looking forward to the experience!:)
Oh cool--and so obvious I never thought of it!:)
Going out this weekend with forecast of rain an snow. I have the WBBB with the adjustable webbing straps (which I happen to love). I'm not really worried about the straps per se, but more the area...
LOL--you had me at first. I was thinking right off, "You mean the numbnuts didn't seam seal the fly?!!!!" Good one, man!
It ocurred to me that I never posted about my first hang in my WBBB 1.1 dbl. last October. I went with a couple guys to Heaton Flats for an overnight and it was AWESOME! It was sooooo cozy and...
Congrats! You will LOVE the Bird! Be sure to post pics of your first hang.:)
Peace,
Linda
I feel your anxiousness in getting your hammock! It's hard to wait when the exceitement is high.
No matter how long you have to wait or how much you pay, I think it's still worth it for the...
I was preparing my gear for a winter backpacking trip this weekend and remembered the problem I had with the interior foot zipper on the Blackbird last trip--if you leave it unzipped almost all the...
Great going! Like your videos and subbed ya!
I was glad to see this thread--I have that UQ and will be using it for the first time on a winter trip next weekend. I ordered the baffles on each end--will post and review after the trip.
Nice job. It always takes me ages to put one together. The guys on YT make it look so simple! What a great idea wrapping the reflectex (sp?) stuff on the handle of the Imusa mug. That thing gets hot...
Nice one! I see you all survived the frozen wastes of Southern California !!!!
How was the road? Haven't been on it since last summer. It was pretty rough then and I was wondering how all...
As far as I know, I can make this one if it does not conflict with my snow travel class in Bishop--instructor has not confirmed the date.
This looks like a great spot for a hang, too! Perhaps the weekend of the 20th?
I'd be interested in Big Bear in April except for the 12th-19th when my brother will be in town (and he's NOT a hanger ).
I have two commitments in March so far (weekend of the 9th & 23).
...
WAY COOL! Love your photos. Looks like a great time.
Is there any need to seam seal the new SilTarp2? If so, what would be the preferred product?
Just wondering--I was on the 'for sale' section and saw a LOT of Blackbirds for sale. Why is that? I find they are an EXCELLENT hammock.
I've used my Kelty Cosmic 20-degree down bag in my hammock with no problem--and I am using it the normal way, too. It took a bit to get the 'hang' of it, but once you do, it works just great. Perhaps...
Thanks! Great suggestions! I will definitely have a shovel on my trips and I will look into the options for stakes. Not sure how much ground wood will be available at the campsite for the first trip,...
After reading most of the posts here, I would like to suggest that anyone thinking about trying any of the methods talked about here be trialed in the safety of your own home first! That way you will...
I am going to do my first winter hang at the end of the month. Not sure how much snow will be on the ground then, but if there is a lot, do you just dig through the snow to get to the ground to place...
WOW--I am glad I stumbled across this while looking for 'ridgeline organizers'! I will be ordering some stuff from 2QZQ very soon--what a great bunch of goodies they have! Thanks for the...
I see your point. I think I could probably attached some velcro tabs to secure it to the ridgeline.
Thanks!
I'm not a do-it-myself yet. The tarp does not have a ridgeline until I hang one; would merely draping the tarp over the line, then wrapping in snake skins work?
I'm still new here, so pardon if this question has been asked before. Will the Hennessey snake skins work with an Integral Designs Siltarp2?
LOL--well, I used to weigh a lot more, so this is nothing! I am still losing, too. One of my motivations was being more fit for outdoor activities--and to be able to use a hammock!
I got my UQ the day after my first hang with the new hammock. It is amazing and I think will do the job all by itself! Can't wait to try it out!
The trees we used were loaded with sap, but amazingly I didn't get any on my straps. I brought ziplock bags to shove them into afterwards in case I did though.
Are there any members in the Southern California area that want to get together for some hang time? I live in Westwood and generally go to the Angeles Forest area, but am open to learning of other...
Not sure if this the appropriate section of the forum for this, but I used some Zing-it line this past weekend for a tarp line, tarp tie-outs, and food bag hang--that stuff is AWESOME! It holds a...
I decided to give hammocks a try because I am in my early 60s and have arthritis in my knees--which prevents me from kneeling and getting down to ground sleep. I wanted something that would allow me...
My friends think I'm a bit daft for even wanting to go hiking in the winter, let alone hammock camp. I just did one in the high 30s (laughable to some of you, I know) and am aiming for a hang when...
Is there a way to search for members by region? I'd like to connect with others in the Southern California area for possible trips.
LOL--yes, I know--30s & 40s sounds like Hawaii to you, right?
I used my WBBB for the first time this weekend. I decided to try the webbing suspension that came with it, then if I didn't like it, I had some ENO slap straps pro in reserve.
The ENOs are going...
