Shes a beaut, Clark
I noticed that. I suppose I should have titled the thread "Overcover/Net vs Net only"
So, as a DB owner... what is the difference between the Dangerbird and the Thunderbird? Is it just that one has a removable OC/Net and the other doesn't?
I love my Darien. Super light weight, and the most comfortable hammock I've ever owned. I want the ability to go net-less when the weather calls for it. That brings me to my newest Dilemma: ...
She's a beaut, Clarke
I have a 10' dream hammock Darien,in 1.6 HyperD with whoopies and 6' straps coming in at 18.66 oz.
My 10' dutch netless in 1.6 Argon, with a fronkey net, whoopies, toggles and 6' straps comes in...
What fabric did you get, hexon or argon?
Oh cool. I know you're "supposed" to reserve a lean-to, but I never do because, like you, I usually end up stealth camping and I want to leave the lean-to for any ground dwellers that may want it. ...
I absolutely love the Letchworth Trail. My favorite trail in Western New York.
When you parked at the visitor's center did you have to register with them as an overnight camper? Did they...
Excellent job, as always, Rob. The views alone are worth the 5 hour drive. Good luck finishing up the trail, buddy.
Yes... hence the "/endsarcasm".
Can't miss a chance to take a shot at the city.
Welcome to New York State, where some guy who hasn't left the city in 17 years makes rules the rest of us have to follow. All hail our New York City overlords! /endsarcasm
Give the NYS DEC State Forests a try. They're much more lax when it comes to backcountry camping rules.
Oh the whole, DEC does a REALLY great job with the parks system. I'm sorry you had a bad...
I've never ran into a ranger anywhere I've been. Then again, I only camp in State Forests and backcountry parts of the National Park. The only time I was in a SP was when I was on the wild side of...
Weather for Saturday looks sketchy. Just FYI https://weather.com/weather/tenday/l/USPA0979:1:US
Welcome to Nanny State...I mean, New York State
I have an orange hammock, a neon green hammock, and a black hammock. Color doesn't really matter. My olive brown tarp covers everything up anyways.
That sounds cool. I'll push as far as I can with you. Looking forward to it!
When I am in my hammock, I find that I only use the head-end, shoulder-side hooks and the foot-end, foot-side hooks; It just works better for me. Don't know why, just does.
Oh cool. You want to camp out together?
My plan was to walk until almost dark on Friday (I don't want to set up my hammock in the dark) and hit the rack right away, around hiker midnight aka...
Posting for a bump
I'd be interested in that... let's make it happen!
Mighty fine tarp you've got there. I really dig the color. Is that a DIY?
I have a Warbonnet Edge tarp, and have never gotten wet. In the wind and rain I pitch low and tight. However, there have been a couple nights where the wind is blowing JUST RIGHT to hit me in the...
This is definitely a first world problem.
Ahhhhh that is too bad, #7 was actually a really fun color combo. #13 is kinda boring...it is just traditional camo colors. Congrats to the winners though.
Right after the contest closed, I...
Really? My 10' dutch-fronkey net just mitten hooks to the end and then slides down the end enough to seal itself.
Mighty fine looking rig you've got there, friend. I love my Darien more and more every time I lay in it :D
I'm also trying to go as light as possible. Using my Granite Gear Crown for my pack over my ULA Circuit.
I've been tossing back and forth about using my hex tarp, or bringing my a-sym diamond...
Ahhhh! Well at least it is for a good reason!
Still looking for someone to go!
Not a problem at all. Let the discussion flow.
Nice! Did you start planning out your route yet?
My plan, depending if someone is hiking with me or not, the first night, is to hike as far as I can until it starts getting dark. Hopefully...
This is a guideline and not a rule. You don't have to have your foot higher than your head. I like a more even hammock lay. I don't like the feeling of sliding to one end or the other.
I had a bad calf ridge in my warbonnet blackbird, but have zero ridge in my dream hammock darien. Both have integrated bug nets.
Just an anecdote. I too like my simple, netless hammock. I...
Gonna share that recipe!?
And mud...you forgot about mud :/

This year they're starting at the southern terminus and going north.
Who all signed up for the A100 challenge?
I signed up for the 25 mile portion.
Let this be the discussion thread for anyone who wants to coordinate or what not.
I'll send you a PM we can workout the details.
It was quite an experience. It was my first time there. I went with Datahiker. I didn't realize how active the coyotes were. They were howling back and forth around midnight-ish for a good hour or...
I love me some LNT stealth camping. Anywhere in particular you have in mind? Or were you talking about stealthing in Letchworth?
I'd rather go to FL than camp with me ;)
"Officially" you're supposed to stay at one of the lean-tos. But there is never any admin on that side of the park. IMO, as long as you LNT and follow campsite ettiquitte and get far enough away...
What? Seriously? Letchworth is a hidden gem in WNY. The east side, or "the other side of the gorge" is amazing.
Thanks for the invite DT. I'll check my on-call schedule to see if those weekends are free for me.
Hey there HF!
Looking to continue my streak of one trip a month. My wife hates it when I go out solo, so I thought I'd see if anyone wanted to get together for a fun 1 night trip. Letchworth,...
When it comes to hammocks I think the bolder the better, but with tarps I prefer something more neutral.
For example, my go-to hammock is bright neon green, but I like a charcoal grey or olive...
Congrats. You'll love your dream hammock. That 1.6 hyperD is so soft.
