best of luck. living the dream!
glad to hear about the new carabiners you'll be that much safer.
as an alternative you could skip the carabiner and just wrap the strap around the tree and thread the end through the loop and then putting the un looped end in the buckle. save the weight and cost...
looks great an easy to adjust my only concern is the carabiner. what is it rated for?
looks like stainless the kind rated to about 300lbs or so. you may want to consider climbing rated carabiners...
for the warmest results the underquilt needs to be snug up againt your back. most use some sort of shock cord to hold in in place but allow it to move with you and keep tight againt you. if placed...
how about a fronkey style bug net
https://www.hammockforums.net/gallery/files/1/2/5/bugnet_thumb.jpg
with a adjustable drawstring at the bottom and stakeouts/pullouts in the bottom 4 corners?...
sweet! you could always hang it over the bed just in case.
1,3,2 thanks for doing this!
#awesome
think I may have solved the strap mystery.
with the distance between the trees being 20 feet apart lets say your hammock takes up about 10ft which leaves 10ft feet of strap ! This exerp is taken...
Babies don't move a large volume of air when they breath. so it is very important to keep all blankets shirts hats ect completely away from his face otherwize babies can end up rebreathing there own...
I have the exact same setup and the center seam on the tarp is most important especially where the center tie out is that is the only place where my leaked in several hours of heavy rain. I also had...
welcome from indiana no place (indianapolis) hoosier hang is coming up soon will be in the vicinity of hoosier national forest. great place to learn the ropes.
here is the link:...
that is awesome ....... just as long as you did not get into it.
welcome to the sickness! let us know when you start setting up a hammock in your house. there are many forum members that can give you good suggestions.
Not to mention the fact I'd rather have my guy lines break than my tarp rip in bad weather. Much easier to fix out in the field and far less expensive.
before I got my UQ I cut down my blue foam sleeping pad to snugly fit on the inside of my sleeping bag. get in to the sleeping bag outside the hammock standing up then just sit an swing your legs in....
JRB =
Jacks R better a vendor of many thing hammock related.
http://www.jacksrbetter.com/
the two biggest items you have left are sleeping bag and the pack itself. you can get a 3 season bag for around a 16oz and your backpack weight can vary from less than a pond all the way up to 6 or 7...
Can't speak to the top quilt itself but as far as making it go colder: an extra pair of flannel pants and a thin down jacket have me **** near sweating in low 30's under a 40 degree down bag being...
I'm in , thanks for being so generous.
could also be the tree huggers or rope. what are they made of ? nylon has a tendency to stretch ...alot causing more sag. polyester not so much.
like it alot! great way to keep stuff at your finger tips.
I have been using this exact webbing for my suspension for quite some time and just switched to whoopies. my reason in one word stretch.
since my hammock is 9 feet long and I was spanning 12 to...
instead of adding more magnets for the bug net you could use some small washers sewn directly to the tule (through the middle) and they would stick to the magnets you already have in place.and would...
went out for a fri- sunday camping trip with my wife our 15week old daughter and two friends and their 12 year old son. what a perfect weekend a such a wonderful campground. wooded sites had a fire...
if it is only at the ends and you don't have the $ for new fabric how about:
1: shortening slightly and adding a structural ridgeline to help get your angle right. (make your rope 83% of your...
fyi I am 5'9" / 255lbs and have the skeeter beeter pro and love it
grand trunk ultra light .
another good choice would be grand trunk's skeeter beeter hammock comes with an intergrated nosee-ums bug net for uder $50 on amazon.

I have 12 week old...

welcome glad you could join us.
best of luck, stay safe ,and most of all enjoy yourself for all of us shackled to jobs they can't break away from.
so just to clarify the coordinates listed on the updated map you posted for the new site are: n39.06819 w86.231459
roughly 1000 feet ( about 0.2 miles) to the sw of the corrdinates I extrapalated...
Thanks for the confirmation Mule makes my life alot easier.
:)
It is not on old berry ridge road. Google will sometimes throw you onto the road which is nearest to the coordinates. you need to use Google earth or a mapping program to see the actual location....
Mule, I used the map you posted to generate coordinates for the new site you suggested. please verify they are correct if you could.
proposed new site 2012 hoosier hang N39.069496 W86.227559

welcome from Indiana!
precisely the type of communication I was hoping for! well done sweetmusic. everyone who ordered one should follow suit.
I have not gotten mine yet but I think it is important that we all complain. the more of us there are the more likely they will do somthing to fix it. like send us the larger tarp or refund ect. I...
What about suspending it with shock cord like an under quilt. Could put a few grommets in it or glue on some light weight rip stop channels using 3m vhb tape
Never been to either so don't have a basis for comparison. My only question is do yo have GPS coordinates to this other location? Or at least an approximate. With so many people coming new to...
welcome from Indiana
couldn't resist the price ordered one too. can't wait to set that bad boy up!
Welcome fellow hoosier. Fyi check the hangouts section for the 3rd annual hoosier hang april 13-15
As a fellow hoosier hammocker and as somone who frequents Deem wilderness, your story hits close to home. you can second guess the "mistakes" you made all day long but truth be told there were...
