Yeah, I remember that one year where we had little snow during the winter and it was a dry spring. The farmers hated it but man that was a great year for bugs.
Only things saving us this year...
If you're driving all the way to Hoist, look up Reed Lake as well. Its close by and make for a nice camp - drive - camp weekend.
Can you do dispersed camping in either Yankee or Pinckney? Hate campground camping, even like on the Jordan River pathway. Thanks.
A nice three day trip is to go to Hoist Lake for a night, pack out and have lunch in town and drive over to Reed Lake and spend the night.
Our favorite spot on North Manitou was down past Fat Annie's down by the Cable Box along the lake. There is a shrubby kinda open area that has these "islands" of trees. I hung in one of those tree...
Did not even know about this trip and was on the MRT with my wife doing an over night. We parked at Red Bridge and hiked a mile and hung above Arquilla Creek (so we would have a quick hike out when...
One thing I would note is that in many places it maybe hard to find the right tree setup to setup two hammocks side by side. I do it with my wife when I can but after about ten trips that has only...
I am 6'5" and started at 270 (loosing weight, I am now down to 228 :thumbup1: ) and I use the ENO Double Nest with their Guardian bug net. Never had a problem with my weight or height and the...
My wife and I were looking at places we could hang out in the north west and thought Theodore Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota looked nice but was a bit concerned that there would not be good...
Ha, I assume the hand ax is to ward off those pesky ground critters at night. :D
Although everything ENO sells is priced way too high, was wondering if their new Hotspot thingy would actually work?

I think the Fronkey's design is about what I was thinking. The idea being that it closes on the bottom so that i you were to stop for lunch and it was buggy (which just drives me so crazy that I...
Has anyone bought/reviewed the new ENO underbelly gear sling? Was thinking of getting something just like this to fulfill this need and bamb, they have it on their site.
I have the ENO bug net for both my wife and I. If I were to buy all over again I think I would go for something else that I could use other then just on the hammock. I would like something that...
My wife has an ember and she loves it.
Pros:
* It covers you from head to toe, unlike some of the other under-quilts (not including the pea-pod)
* it is a synthetic which after getting wet one...
Still have both the bag and strap on both. It is nice for storage and its nice to put my glasses and flashlight in at night.
:scared: You caught me red handed (or should I say read handed) That is exactly what I did. Spell check can't save me.
Odd, I did a search on the forums for "Lighting" and did not find the same question but I did not dig too deep into the threads returned.
Thanks.
I was listening to one of my backpacking podcasts and they were talking about what to do during a lighting storm. That got me wondering about being in a hammock during a storm.
My assumption...
Are you worried about flipping and falling out or do you not like the sway? Just wondering since using mine and I am a roller and light sleeper I have never had an issue with either (I use a DN).
When I first started Hammock camping last year, I held off on buying an expensive tarp and just made do with a WM one that was heavy but cheap and kept the rain off. Now I have the money to upgrade...
Thanks a lot for the pics, that really helps and they were very clear. This site is so full of ideas and opinions, I love it.
I have never had that problem but even in warm weather I normally have my bag on the sides of me so the bugs can't bite through. But I like the stone/tie idea if I run into this on my summer hiking,...
When I was in the army we had a GP-Small that we setup with a stove that ran on MOGAS. The GP-Med ones had a pot-belly stove that ran on diesel (very smelly but kept the German cold out).
I am...
Just an FYI, I have this bag and the inflatable BA pad and like this bag a lot. Its good for when you don't end up hanging and need to sleep on the ground due to shelter of lack of trees.
I did both MRT and Hoist Lake (along with Reed Lake) last year to get my wife ready for Isle Royale. I liked both (got ticks at Hoist Lake but at least its not the west coast with Lime D.). Wish I...
Title says it all. I have seen the "stick" toggle used to connect tree webbing to the support lines of hammocks and tarps but am not sure of the purpose of it. Thanks.
Creating a hot water bottle for night also has the duel purpose of helping to treat your water by boiling. I am fine with filtering and treating chemically but I am going with my wife next Sept. and...
I just bought a ENO Double Nest and noticed that some people seem to have gotten a stuff sack with theirs. Mine was just stuffed in the pocket on the side of the hammock. Should I have gotten a...
I think we need to form a hammock hiking club for all the Michigan guys here. They seem to be everywhere. :D
Hi, I'm Patrick from Grand Haven, Michigan. I started camping in hiking when I was a kid in Royal Rangers (scouting program through the Assm. of God churches) and did a little more when I got out of...
