Zing it works great. I doesn't hold knots, but splices fairly easily. If you'd prefer something that can hold knots, I use basic guyline like this.

The Superfly and Mamajamba have little key chain rings as the main connection to the tarp at each side of the ridgeline. They're about 1/2" in diameter, so you couple probably turn your trekking pole...
Is that a zing-it whoopie sling?
I think I see what you're saying. Even with the framework underneath, the force of the wind hitting the side of the tarp (or the weight of the snow on the side of the tarp) is acting (approximately)...
It's actually Bluebeam Revu PDF editor. It was at work, but on my lunch break! :D
This is an awesome idea. I'd even put another stake in the center of each side of the tarp to create another anchor point for the wire frame.
For anyone's who's interested, here's a sketch of my setup.

I recently bought my first hammock-specific tarp, Warbonnet Big Mamjamba. I've been using a heavy duty home depot tarp, and wanted a lighter-weight and "more legit" setup. I'm sort of a geek for new...
The general consensus is that they work for hanging your hammock, but just barely, and with little (or no) safety margin. There are lighter and safer methods out there. HYOH
Be sure to video tape the results...
Connect D biners to each end of the hammock. Use the 50' length for one anchor. Tie a loop in one end, pass around tree, thread the other end all the way through until snug around tree. Tie the end...
I don't know much about splicing and the like, so what's the order of operation for setting up? Do you tension the ridgeline first, then clip your tarp and pull on the "hanging loop" to tension the...
Personally, I wouldn't trust much from a home improvement store. I would go to REI (or similar local outdoor shop) and buy a couple descending rings or small carabiners. But that's just me :) HYOH
Awesome, thanks for the pics.
10-4 thanks
I too am in the market for a hex tarp. I've narrowed it down to the Hennesy Hex and WB Mamjamba.
It seems like every picture I've seen of these tarps has them rigged in an end tie out only or with...
That is the coolest camping setup I've seen in a long time.
Sept 8 backcountry trip to treasure lakes out of Bishop, CA. Weather was beautiful to match the scenery. We sure are lucky.

Agreed, I was just addressing Rain Man's point that wraps don't necessarily always help.
If you plan on using Dutch Hooks, only the 1.75mm will fit in the hook end of it.
That looks pretty cool. I actually don't use whoopies (not into the whole amsteel/splicing thing). I clip the biner directly to the ends of my hammock, and then run the webbing all the way from the...
I can see your point. If the loop (or biner, or dutch clip) is in a poor position when you begin wrapping, I could see the load on it increasing, because of the wraps.
For example, if the working...
It only has the potential to reduce the force on the loop (or biner, dutch clip, etc...) that you are threading the end of the suspension through. This is because more wraps around the tree = more...
That's clean. I too use this for my slackline setup. It wouldn't work as well for my hammock though, as I'd have to undo the entire thing to adjust the length (remove toggle, unloop webbing, guess...
That look awesome. I'm headed up there this weekend for a 3 day backcountry trip to Treasure Lakes :D
Hiked to the top of Brian Head ski resort in Utah early one morning while on vacation with my wife and her folks. Even had a enough time for a little nap at the top.

Good find. I got my Grand Trunk Single on Amazon for even cheaper :D
Looks awesome. Nice guyline setup, and a simple, clean ridgeline+tarp rig which will pay off when camping.
I took a 50' length of reflective cord and cut in fourths to yield 12.5' corner tie-outs. It's a lot, but it adds (basically) no weight, and I coil them up cleanly after each use so they don't take...
Details? Pics? This sounds awesome. I love clove hitches, so anything to make them even more awesome :)
You can tie a carabiner to your suspension at at any point with any number of hitches (clove hitch, girth hitch, marlin spike hitch...). I like the clove hitch because I am familiar with it, but all...
Most comfortable belay ever!
I totally agree. Do you have any ideas/suggestions for attaching these (tarp on one end, guyline tensioner on the other)? I'm using a basic hardware store tarp with metal grommets, and guyline...
UGH! My way is THE CORRECT WAY!!!
:D I'm still not totally happy with how it turned out. I've already shortened the extensions (allowing me to get the tarp edges closer to the ground) and made 1...
I've been looking at a lot of different methods for these, and ended up trying Just Jeff's method. I had the extra slingshot band and guyline cord lying around, so I gave it a go tonight.
I got...
Assuming a 30deg hang angle, the tension on each side of the hammock will be equal to your weight. This assumes perfectly static loading (no bouncing). In reality, when you plop into your hammock, it...
What do you mean other than my knot selections!?!
I'm a big fan of the clove hitch, especially for the suspension. It's adjustability is clutch. I may have to try this MSH thing you guys...
Does using a MSH require whoopie slings from the hammock? Or could I keep the biner attached to the hammock and MSH the webbing directly to this biner?
Near the Campground in Holcomb Valley. We found a spot closer to where we were climbing. Less people + free camping = :D
Thanks for the tip, I hadn't even considered that. I'm a climber, so I'm used to big ropes (9-11mm) and accessory cord (5-7mm). All of this 1-3mm cord is blowing my mind!
The mini biners on the ends of the hammock are weight bearing. It's how I'm connecting my suspension webbing to the hammock. They are Black Diamond Neutrino carabiners. Full strength climbing biners....
Thanks for the responses!
@Trambo I actually don't have the Dutch clips yet, the sketch shows what I WANT my setup to look like :) I'm using mini climbing biners in their place in the mean time....
The sketch was actually done in Bluebeam Revu (PDF creator/editor). I'm and Mechanical (HVAC) Engineer.
I went camping/climbing in Big Bear last weekend, with it being my first hammock camping experience.
Overall, the setup went well, thanks to a lot of threads read here. I'm using a standard...
I use clove hitches to attach 1" tubular webbing to carabiners on my slackline setup (1,000 lbs of tension) and hammock setup. No failures or slipping ever. They're also fairly easy to untie without...
I do something similar, but instead of clipping the biner trough a Marlin Spike Hitch, I clove hitch the webbing to the biner. Super easy to loosen/untie, even after heavy loading. I use this on my...
You can put anchors in 2 or 3 adjacent studs and equalize the load across them. As long as you keep the angle from the master point to the outside anchors less than 90deg, you will significantly...
