Dude your fingers look horrible!!!
Yeah, surprised no one else posted up... there were 8 of us!
We had such a late night friday we didn't end up going. Kind of bumbed but we had a great day around camp and did a short hike accross the lake which was cool.
What an awesome weekend!! We had 6 people friday night and 2 more people show up saturday. Met a bunch of new faces and I'm pretty sure all of us had a great time. We all hit a new personal record...
We all survived.. trip report coming when we get home.
i will be leaving here around 1230 - 1. I have about a 2 hour drive, so you if you'd like to hike in with me i can i meet you at the parking lot.
I'm at work now... I'll find out as soon as possible when I can get out. I'm hoping to leave by 130 at the latest which would put me at the parking lot by 330 and camp by 530-6
It's supposed to die down this evening.
Sounds good. Look forward to meeting you.
For anyone that's interested in the Mt Carrigain hike, I'm rolling out saturday morning at the latest 0745 to head up the trail.
Sled is packed and ready to roll... or slide :) ....http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15/02/19/d5bd4985712f0adb346194b3dae17c1e.jpg
You'd have to backtrack a LOOONG way this time haha.
Looks like everyone, except me, is showing up around 1 tomorrow. Guess I'll see everyone at the pond.
Will you guys be there early or later? I know the spreadsheet for elevated moment says arriving late friday.
I have a small extra piece I'm bringing you can borrow if need be. It would cover your torso area at least.
I have so much crap I can't even fit it all in my pulk! Lol! I think I'm way over prepared (hopefully haha). Nothing I have is super heavy but all kinds of winter gear that's so bulky!
So from the looks of it, it will be 5-6 of us in for the weekend.
Myself, gr8brew, JoshuaTrees, hanginnate, boyscout, and possibly 1960hikerdude for saturday.
Maybe some reflectix would work if need be.
There's plenty of hanging spots in that area. You can hang pretty much anywhere you want.
Oh, and they're calling for 5-8 inches of snow tonight into tomorrow, so snowshoes will be a must have. I'm still planning on doing the Mt. Carragain hike saturday if anyone wants to join, as long as...
Just compared a bunch of weather sites...
Weather channel & Weather Underground: -3*
So from the looks of it, expect anywhere from -3 to -20 haha. Winds are looking...
Theres a pretty large, plowed parking area at the base of sawyer river road. It's pretty hard to miss. The road is roughly 3 miles and the trail is 1.5 miles.
Yeah. She was only 1/4 mile from the hut up there but they think she ended up wandering in the wrong direction because of hypothermia issues and fell off the trail.
also, not to try and scare anyone off, but we need to make sure we're all prepared. I'm sure most of you have heard about the hiker this past weekend up on the presidentials (sawyer pond isn't NEAR...
I'll be there at the earliest around 3 or at the latest between 6 & 7. It all depends when I can get out of work.
I agree though it would be fun to have a group pulk hike in.
Also, just checked NWS and AccuWeather and both are now showing only -3 to -7. I'm sure it'll change more until Friday though.
Anyone have a thermometer so we can mark our new low temps haha. Mine...
I'd be lieing if I said I wasn't a little nervous myself. But I'm still in as long as they're not calling for high winds. That's my only point where I'll bail, because when we stayed at ethan pond in...
I'm in too. Since I'm pulling the pulk I'll just make sure I bring extra gear with me to make sure I'm good all night.
I have a feeling we'll lose a lot of people this weekend because of the temps....
That'll be an all time low for me! Haha
It keeps getting colder and colder for friday night. Currently on AccuWeather it's saying -14* in the area for friday night. Only positive is not much wind.
Couple days away.... it's going to be a COLD one friday night from the looks of it right now.
Www.trailsnh.com is best place for all kinds of trail reports!
This was last weekend before even more snow had fallen a day or 2 after we broke this trail near Gorham, nh
I was just up there yesterday and snow is DEEP when in higher elevation. I've run into some drifts that are about chest deep haha. Most trails are packed out great after after yesterday but with...
Well that looks like a horrible place to hang! Haha.. welcome to the fun!!
I'm south of u in kittery. If grey eagle is still planning to attend I believe he is up towards that way.
Welcome! Nice collection.
Sounds like a lot of fun!! Welcome aboard and good luck on the rest of your trip.
Welcome to the fun!
Nice quilt! I've taken an 8.2oz apex quilt down to -5* just fine. So you should be able to get even lower than that no problem.
Great news! Congrats!
I was thinking of seeing if there would be interest in a winter hang at Barnes Field campground in the Whites. It's open during the winter and seems like a great place for some group car camping and...
Hiking pole should be fine as stated above just don't extend it to far. I've used fairly small down tree limbs while out in the woods and they work fine without breaking. Being able to hang from one...
Have fun this weekend. Should be plenty of snow down there to play in! Look forward to hearing how everyone's new pulks worked out.
I'm heading up to break trail tomorrow up Mt. Moriah. They're...
Start with 2 yards of fabric of your choice and that should be plenty to make the chair and a small stuff sack. Basically hem the sides, add channels and you have a basic one ready to go. You can add...
I'm in the Whites just about every weekend hiking and/or camping. You're welcome to join any time. Sorry only have weekends available though.
Let me know if there's anything i can help you out with.
follow everyone else and let them break out the trail for you. It's not a far hike anyway.
Winter camping is my absolute favorite. No skiters, not as crowded and there's something just so peaceful about it, especially while it's snowing. Also, when it's cold you can always put on more...
i figure the Mt Carrigain hike will take about 8-10 hours (absolute max of 12) depending on pace. It looks like a great hike and only a few strenuous spots.
I hope this hang turns out as good...
