Hi,
I've just set up my hammock for the first time and was wondering if others had the problem as well. Basically, using fixed-end-method, my figure 9s keep failing on the zingit.

Hi,
I've just set up my hammock for the first time and was wondering if others had the problem as well. Basically, using fixed-end-method, my figure 9s keep failing on the zingit.

The formula is correct.
As for 2 vs 4 oz: the 2oz you add help you go from 115 to 130, so the difference is only 15. if you double that to get to 30%, you're at 4oz, like the other calculation...
Welcome Corneilius,
you sure have some nice scenery to hang in. I was travelling around west ireland, including westport, with two friends after i finished school. I need to get back there ^^.
Note that I am NOT experienced with knots in practice, though I've learned quite a few in advance for my upcoming trip. I highly recommend waiting for the opinion of someone more knowledgable.

I know what you mean, but it's actually impossible to get a negative safety ratio. The critical point is when it's smaller than 1 and at 1/2 that's definitely the case.
Yokohama-shi here. Should have my setup by next weekend, or the one after that at most. Sure, let's go hang somewhere.
Moin and welcome,
I'm currently in Japan, but I'll be back in Germany come September. I'm also pretty new to this thing, I think I'm the one mad was referring to.
You're from Dortmund? have...
I never did. Does double braid mean that there are always two strands running in parallel where one strand would be sufficient for the purpose of braiding? If so, I have a double braid. Seriously,...
Wow, the rumored other German hangers actually do exist. ^^ (Hi hutzelbein)
I just tried it out with one line for now and the mantle holds up just fine without the core. Might well be that the...
I guess I'll just start with one and see if I can destroy it. If not, I doubt that setting it as a guyline will.
Good point. In my case the core is made from the same strands as the mantle, only as a three-stranded rope instead of a eight-stranded braid. Still a problem?
Hi everyone,
I'm currently in Japan and don't really have access to all the fancy ropes (or at least not at reasonable prices), so I just went to Tokyu Hands and got myself some generic braided...
I'm actually studying around Stuttgart when I'm not abroad, though I'm originally from lower saxony. Have to agree, it's quite nice in the south.
Hi everyone,
I have pretty much no outdoor-experience, a little bit of super-soft "camping" as a child and a few day tours with a backpack is all I've ever done. But after looking at hammocks...
There was a reddit post about a gigantic (I think six-person) hammock and in the comments someone mentioned Hennessy Hammocks. I'm quite easily hyped, so I waited, but after ~half a year I still want...
When I was pretty young I asked my cousin to help me make a mmo-account (it was maple story in case you're wondering), which resulted in me just sitting in front of his computer, trying to decide on...
I can't tell what the situation is like because I haven't camped here yet. But I've ordered a set for myself and will be hanging around central Japan for all of August. So if you want to, we can meet...
It looks great. I actually ordered the other way 'round just yesterday. (before I read all of your posts)
Sure, it will require lots of care with the light colors, but it just looks too awesome...
what's that in the fourth picture? macaw green in ... moroccan blue?
Okay, I'll go with the tadpole. Thanks gnarus and sargevining, I wouldn't have found it without you and am just in time before their break.
Okay, thanks everyone for tips. Seeing how many comments were "well, i guess it's okay for car camping" and given that I don't even own a car I'll definitely have another look at your...
Hi everyone,
So I'm thinking about getting a Hanger 11 tarp from UGQ (Silnylon, 130$, would need to buy ridgeline and stakes) for my first set. Today I was at the outdoor store and there I can get...
Hello everyone,
I'm currently in Japan where I can't follow the general advice of "just go to a group hang", also, any mistake will be quite expensive in additional shipping, so please excuse the...
