I also used to use a pillow from Exped, but I didn't like the thick plastic feel to it. Just lately Sea to Summit came out with a couple of super comfortable pillows that are very lightweight. You...

Charlie, I also ordered mine on the 5th, but no notification of shipping yet. Still waiting, but hopefully not for much longer.
I agree with Shug (I mean, who wouldn't, but I digress). I have a 3/4 length underquilt that I tried one night and it just didn't keep me warm. I checked and was sure that I was sealed up all around...
I need a good pillow to get a good night's sleep. I think I've come upon a "system" that's right for me. I start with an inflatable Exped pillow that is really light (3.6oz). I stuff that into a...
I got a new Mariposa backpack from Gossamer Gear and a 0 degree Burrow from Hammock Gear. I'm trying to get equipped for a section hike on the Colorado Trail this summer and a thru hike of it next...
My long range goal is to position myself for a PCT thru hike in 2016. I plan on using my hammock, so I'll be keeping my eye on the progress of all of you doing it in 2014. Good luck to you all in...
Five, I can feel your pain! I think it took me an hour or so to get my set up done the first time. I'm finding that there are many good solutions for hammock suspension, tarp ridgelines, and...
Boston, good comments. I like a tautline hitch, but I end up needing more line to tie the slippery loop part and then to go around the stake and back up to the loop. By having continuous loops with...
I have Hammock Gear’s standard Cuben Tarp with doors, so there are 14 different tie outs. Most of the time I’m going to be using the same four tie outs, but I may need short lines for a close pitch,...
I hear ya, loud and clear! All winter I collected new gear and planned for hiking and hanging, but with one granddaughter getting married and one grandchild being born (any day now) all my vacation...
Great report and pics. Looks like you had a great time!
I use Dutch's tarp flyz and the continuous ridgeline setup illustrated by dejoha here. For me it is the quickest setup and allows me the easiest adjustability to center my tarp over the hammock.
I'll splice when I can, but the bowline is a quick and easy way to put a good loop on the end of the line. I've also learned the taut-line hitch, the Ashley stopper knot, the diamond stopper knot,...
I've found that scissors work best if you loop the line over one of the blades of the scissors and then pull to provide a lot of tension. Cuts easily then.
I'm in! Thanks!
gmcttr, thanks for a good laugh to close out the year!:laugh:
ENO DoubleNest, Grand Trunk Ultralight, and a BIAS WWM
Add me to the list! I bought the stuff and built it after dinner. I have my BIAS WWM hanging in the basement. I wasn't able to get the eyebolts installed, but I was able to prussik a couple Amsteel...
I'm in! Merry Christmas!
This wasn't an overnight, just a quick rest break during a hike in the mountains near Colorado Springs.
A full quart Gatorade bottle seems to hold about $150 of assorted change. Back when I carried cash I would just throw all the loose change in one. I don't use cash much now though. I had it sitting...
Just placed an order from LeighLo for my first underquilt. :shades: I ordered the 30-degree 48" model in black and coyote brown. I had a Gatorade bottle of change in the basement that I've had...
Over the last few years I've been walking and hiking a lot. I started entering ultramarathons and found that I could walk them as fast as some people ran them. I did a couple 50Ks, then moved up to...
Hi, everyone! After lurking through the forums for the last few weeks I've decided to introduce myself. I've learned a lot already reading the great tips from everyone.
I haven't done much...
