The American Eagle here in Greenville, SC has down jackets on clearance for $15. It says on the tag it's 70/30 down/feathers. Picked one up. Seems pretty comfortable, but I haven't had a chance to...

Darn. At least the tree will be easy on the eyes.
I checked the mail yesterday and a suspicious package from dutchware was addressed to my wife. Knowing her love of the indoors, I have a feeling I might find some dutchware under the tree. It's gonna...
Got mine in today. Looking forward to using it soon.
I have taken my DIY primaloft UQ down to 26 degrees and been fine. it's made of a sheet of 3oz per yard and a sheet of 4 oz per yard if i remember correctly. You could easily make one with a single...
My wife and I have one. Our 18 month old likes it, but I recommend going to rei and getting fitted. We got ours at a second hand sale and the hipbelt sits too low for her and too high for me. You...
Ever since i bought my ENO DN I have been having trouble getting a flat lay. I have tried all sorts of tweaks to my suspension, tension, sag, and everything else I could think of to adjust. finally I...
My wife did several overnights in a hammock while she was 7-8 months pregnant. She didn't have any problems. In fact, I think she slept better.
Looks like I won't be able to make this after all. Bummer. Have fun everyone. Thanks chickenwing for putting it all together. Wish I could make it.
What are the dimensions of your under quilt and hammock?
Welcome from Greenville. Definitely try for the chatooga hang, even if you don't have a hammock yet. It'll give you a chance to try some different models out and see which one fits you best.
Last I checked Paul at arrowheadequipment had his tarps on sale. I have a toxaway that he made and it's great quality with good coverage. Also, his turn around time is really fast. I made some DIY...
I use A DIY primaloft tq and UQ...because that was what I could afford. It works, but when the budget allows, I will totally upgrade to down. When it really comes down to it, the only advantage...
The beach site is about a mile (maybe a little less) hike from the bridge on burrells ford road. It is a pretty easy hike though. As far as family-friendliness, Chickenwing brought his 2 girls last...
Welcome from Greenville. Definitely try to come to one of the group hangs in our area. The Chatooga hang especially. It'll be a great trip. Good location, better people.
i took a primaloft sport UQ to 26 last week. it only had 7oz. i think between 5oz of primaloft and 2 layers of IX you'll be very toasty in the 30's.
1. It doesn't change the angle of your suspension so much as it keeps your hammock to a consistent Mount of sag. I've seen folks with their suspension really tight but using their structural ridge...
i have the ENO DN and i would say go the DIY route. The doublenest is nice, but you can make something as good for way cheaper. like merganser said, longer is more comfortable. if you make a DIY...
You can get primaloft sport from therainshed.com. It's what I used to make both my UQ and TQ. It works well I had it down to 26 this weekend.
I have seen people just tie a basic loop into the strap and clip into that. Only problem is untying knots in straps is a pain. You might be able to use a quick release knot but I wouldn't know which...
I so want to come to this. The fall hang was a blast. I'm actually going to be in this area this weekend. I'll have to see if the calendar will allow me a weekend in april.
when you type "d" into the address bar and diygearsupply.com instantly pops up.
When you type "a" into the address bar and arrowheadequipment.webs.com instantly pops up.

I had a similar problem a couple weeks ago. The culprit seemed to be that I had a tangle of loose thread wrapped around the bobbin that kept messing up my stitching pattern. I took everything apart...
Definitely count me in
Don't know of any loop trails but Sumter national forest up around the chatooga river has some really nice out and back trails with some great hanging spots. Looks like the lows up there are only in...
If you're using primaloft you will need to use down proof fabric. You can also get primaloft in sheet form from therainshed.com (this still requires down proof fabric). You will need to quilt the...
Check therainshed.com for primaloft. Good price, good service, and they ship pretty quickly. They shipped my last order the same day I placed it. Looks like you're less than 2 hours from them too....
REI has some hip belts for around $30. If you check their outlet/clearance section they probably have some for even less than that. Good luck with your pulk.
I think it depends on which type of primaloft you're using. For primaloft sport I think it is something's like 55-(total oz per yard x 5). For example my UQ is 7 oz like yours. 55-(7x5)=20 degrees....
Love that quote. My dad always taught that to me and my brothers growing up. Funny how many things it applies to. Glad you made it out ok.
I have the toxaway and I've been really happy with it. Depending on how you do your ridge line (over or under) will be one of the biggest factors in how high up you have to tie to the tree. I don't...
+1 to whoopie slings. They're easy to use, really light weight, and you get a wide range of suspension length that is adjustable to the smallest degree possible. Good luck. Welcome to the hangin'...
Not trying to be disagreeable, but I would get an UQ first and just pick up a cheap blue tarp from Wally world. It will weigh more and take up more space than a cuben or silnylon tarp, but having an...
I think you have a couple other factors to consider. First, if you replace the stock suspension on the ENO you can have substantial weight savings. I don't know the specifics off the top of my head...
I don't think there is a problem with them keeping rain off you. I. Think the main issue most people have is that they are heavier and bulkier than a lot of the tarps the cottage vendors offer. From...
Definitely want to come to this. It'a gonna be a busy time of year though so I can't commit till closer to the date. Maybe if I start now I can have my wife convinced to come by the time it gets...
This was exactly what I was hoping to hear. I'm learning more and more that just because something is small that doesn't mean it can't be useful. Thanks for your replies. Love this forum. Everyone is...
I bought thishttp://arrowheadequipment.webs.com/apps/webstore/products/show/2252396 from Paul at AHE. Just wondering it is sufficient to make a continuous tarp ridge line and tie outs from. It seems...
I have the same setup except for the tarp. It is great for warm weather, but like others have said if it is less than 70 degrees you'll want an under quilt or pad. Under quilts can be pricy but if...
Mine is an old screen name/email from high school. I loved soccer and I was #8. Don't have a real trail name yet. Right now people just call me futbol.
And I might be able to swing it, but Saturday is my daughter's 1st birthday party. Sorry, but I wouldn't miss out on that for the world. Have fun though.
I think other than climashield your 2 best options for synthetics would be either primaloft or insultex. Personally I like primaloft. Not sure about conversions for IX but I'm pretty sure that for...
if you're feeling shoulder squeeze you may need a bigger hammock. i love napping in my wife's Eno Singlenest, but i don't know if i could go overnight in it. it's just too small. if you can try...
I've done this too. First time i tried out my UQ actually. fortunately for me, the day before my wife had raked a big pile of leaves right under where i was hanging my hammock so i had a soft...
I used to do that until I made my uq. It works pretty well and is nice and warm. The only problem I had was that the bag was not wide enough for me to lay on the diagonal so I couldn't get very flat....
I'll be starting the year off working on a primaloft TQ and some no-see-um tarp skins. Knowing myself I'll probably also be making some stoves this year and I may even try my hand at a DIY hammock.
That looks like a good idea. i just got my primaloft today in the single layer. maybe whenever i convince my wife that one TQ is not enough i'll try this idea. I look forward to seeing how yours...
anybody have any additional input? will this latest idea work?
i also have this pack and can attest to how nice it is. wish this had come about a 8 months ago.
i made my own. if you're handy, it's a fun project to give a go. that said, if you want to buy it may be helpful to know what other specs you want. down? synthetic? full length? partial? is weight...
