Definitely not a fail! The color in the pictures looks similar to a "coyote brown". MUCH better than the screaming yellow!
I was going to dye my pack black anyway, so I think I'll just throw in...
did you dye your harbor freight straps?
Yup. The blackcat is a bomber tarp with incredible coverage for a gathered-end hammock but the hex design doesnt work as well with a bridge.
I think I will eventually make another tarp just for...
Here is my DIY bridge with a "blackcat tarp". I know.. it's not black, but it has the same dimensions. 12' ridgeline.
The bridge hammock is 82" long (down the center), 36" head spreader, 30"...
It's well deserved. You (and others) give a lot back to this community.
I read the forums so much, I should post more! :)
Excellent. Thanks! I couldnt tell if the tubing was flexible or rigid from the video.
This will be going on a DIY bridge with .5" tubular webbing. I have the hammock body finished, and the...
First, great video, Grizz! Thanks!!
Second, could you post some detail photos and a short description of the splices you used on the "lightened" suspension?
Also, what kind of tubing did you...
why? did i miss something?

This is taking forever. Send em here, I'll review them!
Impatiently waiting... ;)
Yeah, gorilla glue foams up and expands as it dries. it does get stiff.
the gorilla tape is like old school duct tape. super thick and super sticky.
Oh... no, no. I think you misunderstood.
Those weren't proposed ideas for structural ridgelines, they were examples of structural ridgelines that people thought up long ago.
edit: example D...
Now thats just silly! Why would you carry around bamboo when a length of rope does the exact same thing?
Question: Should it even matter what material the ridgeline is?
Whether it is a 4x4 post, a piece of bamboo, webbing, or a length of rope, it all sets the sag of the hammock. Subbing one...
Tell me, which of these (if any) are patent infringement, and why?
Options A, B, C, D:

edit: forgive my MS paint skills
I did. Then I explained how that ridgeline is structural. If you cant see it, well... sorry?
As a DIYer, i have zero incentive to contact the PTO and challenge the patent. Its much easier to...
See picture on page 15. That rope, which is a ridgeline, is holding the entire hammock off the ground. It isnt just holding the tarp up.
The concept is so simple, of course it has been used before. All the sudden you give it a name, "structural ridgeline", and its an amazing patentable invention.
They need a PR person now. We just created one more job in the US!
I'm gonna go tie a rope between the ends of my hammock. Alert the FBI.
What are your thoughts on the 1/8" vectrus 12 versus the 1/8" amsteel 12?
(both on this page: http://www.apsltd.com/Tree/d3000/e827.asp)
Also, how is the abrasion resistance and "knotability" of...
Threatening DIYers with patent lawsuits is just silly.
Patents like these are COMPLETELY unenforceable when it comes to DIY projects.
Yeah, I did a rolled hem and then added the grosgrain trim. I used Mettler's 100% poly thread. I dont know if mettler is any better than other threads. I just used it because Hancock fabrics is...
A couple more notes...
The tarp weighed in at 15.85 ounces before seam sealing. 12 foot ridgeline. The grosgrain trim added about 2.3 ounces, but the edges feel bombproof now.
The green...
If it helps..
I dont pin anything when I sew. I just work very slow, a few inches at a time. The grosgrain trim on the tarp was BY FAR the hardest thing I have done. It took hours.
Also,...
Well, I thought I should share these with the community since yall provided the ideas. Many thanks to those who put in the time to write all the fantastic instructions!
I had never touched a...
