It was one of the first videos I saw when I searched YouTube for tarp skins
So I've seen some tarp skins that are split into two pieces down the middle and some that are just a single piece that slides all the way across... Can someone tell me the pros and cons of each...
I don't see any reason why you couldn't. This way looks nice though
I've seen some DIY snakeskins that are one piece, but the ones I've seen for sale are two pieces. Is there an advantage to one or the other?
What are tarp skins? Is it basically just a stuff sack made from mesh that splits into two pieces? How does it pack up compared to a normal stuff sack?
Hey five, did yours ship yet? Just got the notification last night! Can't wait!
Xtrekker, where did you get your materials, what lengths/diameter bamboo did you use, and what was the cost?
Thanks! I think you guys are right. Going to give it a shot with 2x3 lumber and see how it holds up. Going with a design that uses minimal hardware for easy setup/breakdown. Will post pictures...
Thanks Ed! I've never winter hiked, but was thinking of taking it up as my off season sport. Do you winter hike/camp?
Nice. I just used my ENO DN last weekend again and the cinch buckles/webbing were super convenient. I do think you'll be happy with it, especially if you're not a knot geek like me!
Also, make sure to pull the double fishermans really tight to take out all the stretch of the shock cord at the knots.
What I did for mine was started with a 100' spool and tied a perfection loop. Then tied my alpine butterflies about 10" apart. Threaded a 12" piece of shock cord through the alpine butterfly loops...
No problem, five! By the way, the knots on the end actually look like perfection loops (also very easy to tie), which is what I used on mine as well. The nice thing about them is they tighten up so...
I get where you're coming from, but I needed about 85' of cord and would have had to spend $26, instead I got 100' of paracord for $9 (with free shipping). I actually tested this overnight last...
Those are alpine butterfly knots. They are very easy to tie. Grab the rope with two fingers where you want the loop and twist clockwise twice. The wrap the bight under the twists you just made and...
@MountainGout, I'm jealous that your tarp will be here tomorrow! This weekend I'm borrowing a small tarp that I'm going to have to finagle into an angle that will hopefully cover me in the rain...
Nice! I just ordered mine a few days ago. Blackbird 1.1 double layer and Superfly both in olive brown. 3 weeks, can't wait! Guess my ENO DN will have to do until then. Already made my...
Thanks everyone. I've been spending a ton of time on the forums already (actually did before I made an account too) and have already gotten a ton of valuable information and ton of ideas for DIY...
@VictoriaGuy - You're idea looks really good! I can't think of any good reason why the eyes can't close, I was simply trying to replicate a sewn daisy chain, which is unnecessary. Do you know of a...
You could be right. I haven't been able to find any pictures that show the exped it well enough for me to be able to determine how it works or is made... Would love to hear what you discover when...
I don't know if this idea has already been described above (and misunderstood by me, but would something like this work?

Sorry if the picture is not so good, but my artistic ability is...
Poca those look great! Nice job!
Thanks for the replies regarding using paracord. I guess my real question is am I correct in saying that because the lines are auto-tensioning that the stretch from the paracord would no longer be...
I know this is an old topic, but I was wondering something. Many people recommend against using 550 paracord for guylines because they stretch. If you are making an auto-tensioning guyline wouldn't...
Thanks! I'll have to check out the info about that hang. I'm usually climbing up north most weekends, but I'll look into it! :)
Hi! I'm brand new to the forums and I've read a lot of the DIY threads and have even made a few things myself based on them. I really liked the idea of a hammock stand made from bamboo, but don't...
Hey everyone. Just wanted to introduce myself, since I'm new to the forum and the hanging community!
I'm 26, a USAF veteran and engineer/materials scientist from southern NH. I'm mainly a rock...
