Thank you OltrailDog. I did a search for some info and found this:
This great cot accessory allows you to use your cot even without a sleeping pad. Install it on the underside of your Helinox cot...

Look what this guy is toying around with:

Uneven terrain(mountains) hilly woodlands would be reason to hang it from a tree. Only need one tree. Insects(chigger/ticks) would climb up the 3 legs of the common cot while on the ground.
A...
I'm going to try a few different methods of hanging a cot. Ratchets with 3/8" webbing is one way. I recently purchased a Helinox lightweight cot (2lbs) as my basic starting point.
See this thread...
Thanks for the information Fishbite.
I have an aging prostate that insists I do 2-3 pee excursions during the night. The hand grip shown in TreeFool's video looks like a dooable accessory for me....
Great idea, I like the looks of those. Will they work with 3/8 polyester webbing?

Thank you for your help in searching. I agree, I'm on the right track. I only want to hang 15-17 inches off the ground. This photo is from your link:

Each of the 4 suspension straps, as seen in the latest video, are adjustable using cam buckles. I'll be able to adjust the straps to level off the portaledge aka "Hammocot" ;) as it rests against the...
It gets better. This one shows his DIY single. Listen to him call it a hammock and observe how his fabric covering is attached. I'm getting all excited about this new project LOL :-)))))

Same reason the Turtledog stand was created :-) 300 pages of creative thinking :-) 300 pages of making it lighter and sharing ideas. I wanna create and make a one tree hammock frame lighter and more...
Portaledge prices are way out of my budget range and too heavy, so DIY is what I like.
I don't want to go back to ground so I'm investigating new options. I'll try to make it to the next IL hang...
BillyBob, I spent the winter months at DeWayne Hayes campground in Columbus, MS. Left last week of May and headed to northern IL...what a mistake that was :-). I see it's finally warming up around...

Parts to play with can be found at thrift stores. Folding aluminum cots with round corners can be used for a starting point. The guy that designed the Portaledge

Use 4" galvanized pipe/conduit:)
Same here. I stuffed one string of them in a 3/8 dia. straw to confine them. I leave them in the straw to illuminate and storage.

cooking from the hammock is talked about on here and you have to use a stove
Because of existing wind conditions I'm cancelling my plans to be there.:(
Post a notice if the road will be too slippery to make it back up to the gate. :D Going down should be easy;)
I was out and about at 7pm and the wind is really whippin.
What time will you arrive out there?
We might be able to slide all the way down with the car in "park" and the emergency on:lol: This morning it was nice and icy in the area. Today's rain will make it interesting.
Yes, trees are the best.:)
My wife and I car camp many times throughout the year at state and county campgrounds here in the Midwest. 99% of the time there is a 3' wide poison ivy edging that...
Be patient my friend....spring will be here soon and you will see the ridge-less stand appear. And don't get so uptight about this whole thing...lighten up:)
but....but....but, it doesn't have a ridge pole.:D
You might want to just make a hammock chair. It's mentioned in this thread. Not sure if the instructions are here also.

Waiting for your video that shows it doesn't work:D
It will work in a free standing state also. One leg of each tripod needs to be inline with the hammock. Don't use your hammock as a swing:D
I have the aluminum poles. They make heavy tripods. They...

Buy a couple bags of Wood Pellets. 40 pound bag costs $4.00 at Farm&Fleet or any of the big box stores.
I'll be there. It's 1 degree here this afternoon. 4 more weeks to warm up a little.
Shug is my inspiration but............ I don't want frozen butt hangin in IL;)
If the deal falls thru I'll buy it:)
I know it's a quality tent and can be put up by one person. I even showed my wife your posting and discussed how nice of a tent it is. I looked at the going prices for it at over $425.00 original...
I have the larger "headquarters" tent by Eureka and I love it.
This is a great deal on the Equinox. If I didn't already have 2 Headquarter tents I'd buy it.
