There are so many great spots to camp near Roseville. You can go almost anywhere in the sierras, but my favorites are Lake Spaulding area, Tahoe National forest, Silverfork...
I too hang mine from the suspension, I tend to use a trash bag and wrap my pack though. Keeps it dry and off the ground.
