OK let me see if I can get this straight.
Using what I could find out about the WM it's 45 inches in the middle and 26 at the ends and 74 inches long. Someone better at geometry might correct this...

I'm going to try and work out the difference in weight based on fill and actual square footage of the WM quilt compared to a Hammock Gear incubator 20. Will repost when I'm uninterrupted and I can...
I've just read through the second paragraph and already you've tagged the biggest reason I am reading this article on this blog and switching from a ground dweller to a hammock hanger: Site selection...
Exactly both my understanding and my experience
does anyone know about the doors closing with either tarp pitched on the ground? In photos on the respective websites they appear to be cut/designed to slant inward and might not close completely at...
Exactly: And less of an issue with a tarp than a tent /ground shelter since it's the tension that's literally keeping a ground shelter standing.
Word! And you can use fleas and worms with the 1 mm poly coated spectra line of your choice. What do they cost each? $2 apiece for 8 total?
Who wants to mess with an effin knot when its...
[QUOTE=Slack Packhiker;1739229]I've used my CF tarp with doors for 2 section hikes, starting out with zero hiking or camping experience. The tarp didn't have a single problem till a strapping guy in...
Not sure you've linked to the correct images:

Never mind I found Opie the former non-gram weenies thread on the subject. Back to the kitchen table and sweet dreams evryone!
I could spend the night looking through all 68 pages of this excellent thread but help me out here please. To make a continuous loop ( in 8 strand 7/64ths ) do I just bury one end into the other @...
Check out this new routine for "knotless" PCT bear-bagging from BPL
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hpR_LEoD5PU
This looks like a great new innovation!
Good job Lawson!
That looks perfect!
HaHAHA! :lol:Sounds like sombody has driven down 58 to get some real Q!
The Tare feature really helps. Lots of gear won't really stay on the scale. This allows you to put a basket or whatever on the scale; hit "tare" and start from zero with the basket or whatever not...
That's what I figured. This looks like a good solution. Cuts the weight and bulk to the minimum of time/aggravation which is the time to find/break /insert the sticks; which won't be much time.
...
Well sir I owe you an apology!
What I thought was the cord running through the tube was just the light change on the interior of the tube..... the channel. Hey that's what you get for using light...
RF: your link to the webshot didn't work for me. "they (didn't) work"
But I found this http://www.animatedknots.com/klemheist/index.php
Looks like a simple and effective solution
Interesting! Will the AM-78 tear the tubing? Kinda heavy too. Maybe the single piece of 1/16th shock cord is the best compromise.
Meantime I'm also looking for lighter webbing. Maybe a...
Thanks Albert that was a really informative post and confirmed what I suspected about lighter weight dyneema webbing which is that it is probably not made a weights/strength ratio that would offer...
hangnout,
That stuff's tubular so it's heavier as well
Ike: as per the thread over on BPL I've emailed Sturges to see what they say is their lightest webbing that is @ 1 inch wide. Won't...
Here you are from BPL:

Use a REALLY light line. I have a light slippery spectra cord. The bear would...
Actually the dividing line is @ I-85 and corresponds to the western limit of real "Carolina" Q
vinegar based of course. Makes perfect sense when you've tasted it :boggle:
Lori when I referenced "West Coast" bears I meant any bears west of about Salt lake. I can see the Atlantic from where I sit and about 40 miles of water to the WEST.
West around here is west of...
[QUOTE=Oh-No;240353]Yes, 2 holes about 2" by 1" abrasion type holes. The fibers did not break
but the "mylar" failed.
Got to be an external cause. Stick poking up from the ground, rivets on...
[QUOTE=vitamaltz;240413]No sleeping clothes needed, just sleep naked :)
One thing is for sure, I smell very human when I hike, even to other humans. The hypothetical bear knows I'm in the...
I triangulate: Cooking in one spot, hanging in another; and sleeping in the third ( always down wind ) hang anything that might smell though I don't hang the clothes I cooked and ate in I don't bring...
I'll be thinking about you and mentally pushing you up Cheoah!
So waht caused the holes? your pad or quilt or clothes inside the hammock or the 2 layers rubbing together or a rough surfaced pad between the 2 layers?
What could you have inside the hammock that...
So does the nature of the cuben fabric, the sort of crinkly stiffness and the absolute waterproof film detract from the comfort....at least unless it's REALLY hot? ( and you are in La Florida ) ...
Here's a couple of relevant reports. These guys are the bomb doing what they do as volunteers: (But no they don't wear Orange on Sat to the football game, Sunday deer hunting or Monday picking up...
There was an ice storm in December but it ( I thought but don't know for certain though I drove through the impact zone ) mostly impacted @ 4000 to 4500 on the east and SOUTH facing slopes. I Can't...
Go up the creek right of Green Mt Ridge ( which may also be called Fork Ridge? ) Guess I better get a map out. ............... Ok the trail from @ Ivestor Gap out to 215 and Sunburst is Fork...
I have done both. What do you want to know? DO NOT TAKE THE GREEN MT TRAIL down /up.....to/from what is it route 215? If you want to go out there to Green Mt.
( it's a nice ridge ) go out and...
Look at these photos of a "flying diamond" pitch on an 8' x 10' cuben tarp weighing 5.75 oz.

Ideas? It's 12 feet as...
I guess one big question is how many sticks would it take anyway. Of course it's dependent on tree diameter but seems you could get some general "rule of thumb" like 6 sticks for a 12 inch diameter,...
Actually the basic idea is TeeDee's. I just thought of the scrunchees to hold the sticks. The line loop with scrunchees is only to hold the sticks in place while a 7/64ths or even 2mm dynaglide ucr...
OK: Time for a field report.
I substitited cord I have ( I think it's aircord, use it for tarp tie outs about 1.5 mm ) for the 1/16th and it was a good move for a couple of reasons.
1. dropped...
This is the first thread that comes up searching for DOWN AIR MATTRESS. Apology in advance but has anyone tried using a D.A.M in a hammock, maybe not fully inflated, as a bottom layer for colder...
Thanks Teedee. It was your idea about the shotgun shell sling that lead me to picture it. Plus I really like scrunchees.
Hopefully I'll get the chance to try it with real sticks and a real...
nevermind I found the answers
I loosely attached the bandolier around the back of my desk chair. There's one photo with a scrunchie holding 2 markers and they'll hold 3 so @ 2" max
( larger would get a little heavy no?)
The...
I measured out a 60" length of 1/16th bungee cord and attached 12 small "scrunchee" hair loops using prusic knots about 2 inches apart. The small scrunchies will take sticks from @ 3/4 " to maybe 2"....
How do you donate anyway? I haven't found the link or info on that yet.
Must be by Scottish heritage :o
Humor me I'm a COMPLETE newby! Are rope based tree huggers still being disscused? I have an idea for a light "modular' system for easily placing and holding sticks around the trunk of the tree to...
