Great write up.
The carabiners are the first things to go on my ENOs I ended up looping whoopies straight through the gathered ends. I love the side pocket to keep books in when I'm lounging!
Convincing article, but I probably will just go on without one.
First trip since I got my tarp re-sewed after a very windy night at my cabin. I'm still very happy with the tarp. On the Superior Hiking Trail in April.

Also have been enjoying my 4 season tarp.
Don't forget about podcasts! I especially enjoy "things you should know" by howstuffworks. Really fun to learn about everything under the sun while being under the sun..
I've never really gotten my down bag wet (damp in a tent before). My basic rule is if I'm not in it, its in a waterproof sack.
good list. +1 on Bodyglide. Something I always bring.
I'm taking too much time off of work, but would love to meet up and hike with you guys for a few days.
I've left my car at some of the SHT parking lots and didn't have to get any permits at all....
I like everything thats going on in that picture. Very functional sack. and awesome movie!
all of the new ENOs are on sale locally here. (Minneapolis, MN)
I would do at least 8' on each side of the tarp for a ridgeline. so ridgeline length+16 feet minimum
I enjoyed reading your post, but the last part got me. You have a pet squirrel?!
Pm sent...
The SHT doesn't need any permits whatsoever, and there are no rangers on the trail. There would be no way it could get shut down. Its one of the easiest trails to go on logistically.
Its amazing how much colder you are if it is coming from under.
That is a good deal. Those are fantastic packs.
Whats the size on this thing?
Whoops. Hammock Gear is the UQ. I also got some gear from arrowhead.. Corrected it.
I just put my pack on fully loaded and step on the scale. Subtract my weight and Voila!
Last Hiking trip I guided I was using older gear and carrying most of it (bunch of 12 year olds) and my pack...
pretty much all hammock ideas are.. Just depends if people want to put in the energy for DIY or just buy it (Whoopie slings, tree huggers, Hammocks, Tarps, etc..."
Last night I decided to camp out in the front yard. I used a themarest under me and a REI Travel down as a speerpod going all the way around my hammock.
It was ok, and but even 65 degrees I was cold...
just bought my incubator. and am living off ramen at the moment. No Regrets!
I wonder if there is good way to cover up the zippers without hurting the bag. I have a REI Halo 25 and it is made of Ripstop polyester which is thin. Duct tape would leave some residue when I want...
Good deal. These pads are synthetic insulated and rated to 15 degrees
When a used my slapstraps to hang a few weeks ago it rained over night and I ended up an inch from the ground. Not my Fav.
Maybe it was. Those WBBBs are looking good! Either way its a lesson I learned. Mistakes like that happen, once.
always happens in my ENO. My buddy and I were out at a park having a few beers, and hanging and as soon as I decided to read a bit in my ENO, BAM 5 hour nap.
WBBB 1.7
OES 4 Season w/ custom tie outs, or Cooke 12x12 1.1syl Tarp
JRB Full UQ
MSR Dragonfly or pocket rocket (both of which I own)
Going to pull the trigger on the UQ pretty soon. and still...
Last week I did an overnight at a state park in Minnesota. My buddy and I both had ENOs. I forget to take my knife and sheath off my belt and start lounging away, next thing you know Im on the ground...
How is a prussik knot any different than the plastic do-hickey if the shock cord is at the same spot?
Just put whoopies on my ENO Single. I did a double loop larks head. SO much better than Slapstraps.
Cooke Custom Sewing makes fantastic tarps in all kinds of colors. I have a 10x14 tarp that looks like a circus tent. They make them colorful so that bush pilots can see you....
I first got into hammocking on a whitewater canoe trip in northern Canada a few years ago. On a few nasty rainstorms I was still completely dry while my buddies were sleeping in puddles. After having...
Funny asking if a hammock is better than a tent in a hammock forum :D
To solve the backpack problem, I've always bought a larger than needed pack cover (for my 50L pack, I have a 80L cover..)...
I have the explorer ultralight and love it. Very comfortable. I'm 6'3 also.
well that went fast
I have a 10x14 Cookes Custom Sewing Tarp and love it. Its huge and I can pitch it any way I want. A little heavy for backpacking, but they make all there tarps in 1.1 or 1.9 syl nylon.
Just ordered some whoopie slings for my Eno and HH. Can't wait to try them out. Good deal.
You could also try the Exped Synmat 7 w/ pump You can either blow it up, or it has a built in pump that works really well. You basically give it CPR and it has a one way valve.
After watching the first video, I was thinking of replacing my slapstraps with poly webbing, but after the second video, I think I'll go straight to whoopie slings! Thanks!
Your Video explained...
I have used the mombasa Single Net with my ENO a few times. Seems to work pretty well. I tied a rope across and hung the head end of the net, and tucked extra fabric under me.
