Shug are you making them out of Dynaglide or amsteel? If you haven't tried the DG you should. They would support you just fine, you look to be about my size anyway. Its scart at first cause its so...
to all those who say hammock can't be as light as tents, think again.
you can use a toggle and 6 foot huggers. Sew a loop in one or both ends of your hugger. Wrap hugger around tree. Put toggle through sewn loop in hugger or attach toggle via marlin spike hitch. Then...
OK, i finished sewing my fixed eye and connected it to the hammock, nothing terrible happened. Will have to test it for extended use to see what happens. I did the bset i could to go straight, and...
use diff colors, you seem to have alot
thanks guys, was super easy
Yea its the process of making hte dead eye or fixed eye that gets me.
Hey guys, i have my whoppies attached to my hammock via bowlines, i wanna remove the bowlines and put in the fixed eye on the hammock end to make it more secure, how do i go about doing that? i know...
I am using 7/64 amsteel with a 10.5 inch bury, no wear whatsoever, minor stretch where the line goes into the other line, nothing major, still good. I did the 7/64 cause its a tad lighter.
Oh ok, i assumed u chose trees where the hugger always wraps around, so you are encountering abrasion on the amsteel then.I plan to use my hammock on a thru, i would not exoect the amsteel extension...
How would you have to use it as part of the hugger? If the distance is max you extend it far, if it is close you make the loop smaller-both ways you just attach to the marlin spike right?
I made...
Ok, maybe i missed something, angrysparrow: why do you use an extension for your amsteel-why not just make a 20 feet long whoppie sling instead?
Actually i was shocked when i weighed the BB vs the heavy polypro from strapworks, the heavy is 6g lighter than the BB (both cut to 6 feet) but nearly twice as thick, very strange. This opened up...
So Im wondering how you attach your amsteel extensions to your whoppie slings.
I wonder where brandon gets his webbing. =P
IF its not too much of a bother, how much do your huggers weigh? I bought so me heavy polypro 1 inch from strapworks but i think its super heavy, my WBBB webbing is way thinner, think i may have got...
i did copy what u showed me in the 123, but origionally did not see a bowline in the 123 pics, gonna go back and add one tommorow. Dih! I get it now, i copied your setup exactly except instead of a...
Hey, if you guys look at the pic above you will see my finger pointing to an overhand knot. I seem to notice the end sticking out of my overhand knot seems to be getting smaller as the overhand...
So i have a question, first time just now, tied up the hammock with the whoppie to the tree, noticed this:

Was wondering...
Ye that is a sick setup with that rod, gonna goto home depot see if theres any odds and ends that may work, hopefully titanium or alumnium.
When you guys want to make your distance from the tree longer, and you've already maxed out the sling, can you slide the spike down the hanging poly webbbing, or does it have to remain snug against...
Thanks man. I think i read somewhere you were a teacher. I always wished my teachers were able to answer the questions i really had and not what they thought i was asking, however you hit it right...
When i am attatching my whoppie sling to my hammock (attatching the larks head etc) do i put it through the black loop on the mosquito netting first or do i put it through the suspension loop first?...
I wonder if this method is lighter than the marlin spike + webbing as I assume u are wrapping the amsteel blue on the left around the tree? Or are you using webbing too?
Does any1know a place in town to get poly 1 inch straps for the marlin spike
LOL i just found the video at the same time you did and posted it.
So all i need for the marlin spike hitch is a stick, 6 foot webbing, and thats it? the toggles are the 6 foot straps right? Nevermind saws this video: he explains the MARLIN SPIKE HITCH at about 6...
I just wanted every1 to know, after weeks of fear of knots, screw ups, and general misunderstandings about the process, i have used up my 20 feet of amsteel 1/8 blue leftover, and made WHOOPIE...
I'd rather keep them intact in case i wanna put em back on, is there a site to order light 1inch webbing like the bb has, perhaps in camo?
What i need is to make the mini huggers that go around the tree, where do you get those? they connect to the sling via marlin spike, etc. Is there a guide for those too?
Are most of you using a whoppie sling with a 5 or 6 foot hugger or are most of you not using a hugger at all?
So this is basically the lightest suspension system there is correct?
I wonder if the rope has any abrasian qualities on the hammock fabric where it wraps around the fabric ball.
I 2nd that, vids > pics
When some of you who are employing these systems get them setup, could you post pics in addition to the ones aleady in the thread, I like pics :)
do you guys notice any difference in the lay, also do you still use a small bit of webbing to wrap around the tree, the webbing being attatched to the sling, or is there no webbing at all. Also how...
