For anybody who has just lashed the tripods together, what type of cordage did you use? Also what did you use to hang the fencepost?
Can't beat North Manitou Island. The whole island is back country camping. You can make your own route, and the views of Lake Michigan are amazing.

Not exactly hammock related, but I got an automated wildlife camera. We live on 10 acres and I've always wondered...
I use my white ones all the time. I attached a couple loops of shockcord to either end of the hammock, so I can just clip the lights in and they run right along the ridge line without sagging....
I have a new UQP from 2QZQ. I'm not really sure how it should be adjusted. Does it need to be fairly snug up against the UQ? Seeing as how there is normally nothing but open air underneath my UQ, I...
Count me in. If I win, this will go to one of my Scouts. Thanks.
I have a New River and don't have anything special to hold it in place. I just hang it under the hammock and it works. Have never had any issues with fit or gaps. My wife has an UGQ, and same thing....
I put the New River on the inside. Not sure if it really matters if your quilts are the same length. In your case, I think I would put the shorter quilt on the outside. Otherwise you might end up...
I hung out last night and the forecast low temps were for the teens. I normally use a 3 season New River UQ. Figured I would really be pushing its capabilities at those temps. I also own a 3 season...
As suggested go to AHEs website. But for reference, I just measured mine, and the side of the triangle is 12".
Post on AHE's FB page today hinting that something is coming up.
Stacking is my backup plan. I also have a AHE Potomac. I already had it hanging and adjusted it in my basement. If it gets cold, hook on two biners and it's ready to go. Unless I chicken out...
I use my 15 degree sleeping bag. Usually just zip it up a couple of feet for a footbox, and use it like a TQ. I put the top cover on my XLC the other day, so that should help a little too.
And while I'm at it, I can strongly recommend the New River. I have the 3 season version, and have been very comfortable down to about freezing. I will be pushing it hard this weekend. Forecast lows...
Unless AHE has really raised their prices, $60 is not 12%. The UQ would have to be $500 for that. I think you are looking at more like $30 off.
If you are going to run a continuous line between the trees anyway, why not just hang the tarp from it? Just saying.
I would also check out the Potomac from AHE. It is made specifically to fit the HH asym hammocks.
Cedar - my wife has bought some large zip lock type bags for storing clothes and blankets and such. Not sure where she got them, but knowing her, I would guess they came from Target. Probably in the...
What is the best place to put the reflectix? Will it work in between the layers of my hammock? Will it work better than a thermarest pad? I'll be car camping, so I don't care about weight or bulk.
Just wondering what peoples experience is for added insulation for winter hanging. I do not plan on hammocking much during the winter (20 degrees or colder), but will probably spend a night or two...
I have a bottom entry HH, and have a Potomac UQ to go with it. I can just pull the UQ over, get in the hammock, and it kind of slides back in place. The Potomac is designed to go with the asym HH...
Most of our Scout campouts are drive up type sites, so weight is not an issue. My wife recently bought a popup hunting blind, that she uses to change in. As we get more Scouts hanging, I see the...
I have the WBBB XLC, and have gone back and forth on teh tie outs. I don't think they reall interfere with theh UQ at all, so that is not an issue to me. It's basically just whether or not I have...
Used my pole mod for the first time this weekend. Made for a ton of room inside. Well worth the $40 it cost.
...
I use a couple of small velcro strips to wrap around the lines. The kind you can buy to secure computer cables. They just stay right on the ridge line.
The real Boy Scout trick is to just tie a taut line hitch.
I use some of those little Velcro ties that you can buy for bundling computer cables. I have three of them hanging from my tarp RL. I roll up the tarp and use the ties to secure it in place before...

I have made up a decal for the event. Will be donating and bringing them with me on Saturday. We will let the...
My wife and I are planning on attending. We will probably not arrive until Saturday morning, and will need to leave on Sunday. I will enter info on the Google doc later today. Looking forward to it.
I have a WBBB XLC, and use the stock suspension straps. I usually try to double wrap around the trees. The last couple of times out, upon taking down the hammock, I've noticed a slight impression...
Just ordered all of the parts for the mod from Quest. Hopefully I'll have everything in place for next weekend.
Just don't set up next to any oil cans!!
Bottom line is that it does not matter how long the suspension lines are. You are not laying on the suspension. All you really care about is the ten or so feet of fabric that make up the hammock. All...
My wife and I would love to attend. However, we are semi committed to a Scout training event that weekend. It looks like it might get canceled though. What is the drop dead date to sign up?
I use some of those little Velcro strips that you use for bundling computer cables. I have them attached permantly to my tarp ridge line. I have three that help bundle the tarp in place before...
I use my sleeping bag primarily as a TQ while in my hammock. However, in cold weather, I really miss having the hood. I usually end up pulling the hood over my head, which I really don't like. I wear...
I have never been down into the Keys, and was thinking that might be my next get away. Any recommendations on someplace that is hanger friendly? Not necessarily looking for something rustic, just a...
There was poison ivy everywhere. Good news was that there were no bugs. Last time I was there was around the end of July and the flies were terrible.
Took 6 Scouts over to North Manitou in Lake Michigan last weekend. It was the first backpacking experience for most of them.
Took the ferry to the island on Saturday morning. After arrival at the...
I use a long New River with my XLC. Hang it with the triangle thingies and haven't had any issues. I usually need to reach over when I first get in and pull the quilt around the footbox, but after...
I use a CRL for my superfly. Tie off the lashit line with a couple of flyz, and hang the tarp underneath the line with prusiks and mini biners.
For the doors, I tried the door hooks and found them...
I bought some from Dutchware.
AHE can make your Potomac with an extra layer of APEX to make it more of a winter quilt. Should put the temp rating down to about 10-15 degrees F.
I have a Potomac that I use with my bottom entry HH. You slide it over to get in, and it pops back into place just like advertised. I think the key is running the hammock tie outs thru the loops on...
I also camp with Scouts. I usually change at night in the dark. I will put on my next days clothes before I go to bed, and am good to go when I roll out of the hammock in the morning.
The zipper is different on the XLC. There is only one zipper, and when it is closed it is up by your head. It unzips down towards the foot end.
I'm pretty sure there is nothing in the Guide to Safe Scouting requiring two Scouts to a tent. Like a lot of "rules" in Scouts, sometimes it is more folklore than an actual policy. As long as a boy...
I think my last order came USPS.
I handle the CRL by keeping it attached to the tarp when I stuff the whole thing into the skins. I then use a couple of Velcro ties to bundle up the excess line, and strap them to the ends of the...
