I have used a piece by itself without the ripstop, and it definitely helped to keep the chill off, didn't have any moisture issues.

Made a summer TQ with some IX I got off of Mrprez and some 1.5 ripstop I had sitting around.
Drawstring footbox, 48 X 76, 11oz.
Single layer IX, 48 X 60, sewn into the head end, sandwiched...
Well, 15 minutes walk there........ might take a while longer to W.a..L.k back depending on how many brews you sampled! Looks like a great time, glad you enjoyed...... ps: I prefer lager
