How about now?
Hey fugawee, long time! Nothing like diggin' up a 5 yo post. Haha
Have you ever 'elevated' at Pamona? The boss lady and I are looking to find a good site a little further away from all the light...
Ha ha. I guess that's true. Been "elevated" so long I don't really recall. ;P
Did a little backpacking trip in the Ozarks; 3 seasons in one weekend.
Friday was beautiful with a high about 70°F. Then the winds picked up (50 mph gusts); overnight heavy storms rolled through,...
Great video, Wanderer. I need to pack up Dorothy and Toto and hit some trails out there! :)
You now have seen every hill in Kansas. hehe
+1 on the dramamine
Thanks for your comment. Need to figure something out to get him to sleep in a little later in the mornings. :) rocks/roots+sunrise = tent campers' alarm clock.
Decided to do a last minute overnighter out at "Woodridge" this past weekend.
We arrived at the trailhead just before dark, leaving us just enough time to pull out our headlamps. The moon was...
Trip Review
George Latham Trail--Woodridge Wildlife Area—USACE—Clinton Lake, Kansas
Being in dire need of some tree-therapy, I decided (with approval from the boss) on an impromptu...
I am afraid I won'the make it out Friday night either. I should be on-site mid morning Saturday.
Cool. I'd like to catch up on your adventures and gear additions. I'd like to make it out both Friday and Saturday nights, but it depends on work on Friday. I have been working about 25 minutes...
How would the weekend of the 29th work for everyone?
Any of the usual suspects interested in having a hang out at Woodridge the weekend of Dec 4th?
I am a unequivocal maybe. :D
Schedule permitting Owl, count me in. Backwoods donated a big box of stuff for our Typhoon Haiyan disaster response team back in November. Those folks are awesome. And I am always happy hang out...
I am a definite maybe! :P It all depends on when my next trip to the Philippines is going to take place.

Count me in.
I am still going to head out for this one; solo or et al. If anyone is still interested PM me and I'll shoot you my cell. I plan on hiking the length of the trail (~4.5 miles). (At least once)
Just to make sure we have clear skies the whole time I am pulling my raingear and tarp out of my pack.
Hoot and I will catch up with you Friday evening.
Thanks to fuhgawee graciously loaning me an UQ...I am at just under 20 lbs with water.
...but I am planning on being at the MO Hang.
Ha Ha! I can't come close to comparing until I can afford to graduate to compressible, downy comfort status.
It looks to be about the same distance give or take.
I guess the deciding factor would be getting back to the vehicle.
Either way, count me in!
Let's see if I understand this.
From Groggins Mnt TH I'd go SW to the Groggins Connector, and then south a couple of miles?
Catch up with you? Maybe, if someone puts hobbles on Hairbear.
I probably wouldn't make it down until a quarter past noon-ish , and I am completely unfamiliar with the area.
What's the total...
I am trying to figure out the logistics involved in making it to this one.
I have something going on Thursday night, and I don't really think it would be a good plan to leave KC at...
Come on! The more the merrier! This is a very friendly, welcoming group. Ground dwellers are most certainly welcome.
The 14th-16th would work for me.
Thanks, Craig. That means a lot coming from a [not-so] old pro like yourself. The music I used for the video was from the website "incompetech.com", an online resource for royalty free music.
I...
It sure is pretty country around there. Thanks, it was pretty easy capturing the scenery, even for an amateur photographer such as myself. I hope you enjoyed the pics.
Following Skygazr's lead and sage advice. I've moved down to a much smaller pack.
Sorry folks, looks like the keg-o-rator and the giant jenga are going to stay home for this one. ;)
I am in!
The second weekend is probably going to be your best bet if you want to do some fishing and catching.
I much prefer camping off-trail. We went counter clockwise, taking the North Loop, across Paddy Creek Rd., and then down the South Loop.
You are lucky to have easy access to such an awesome area. It was my first time down there...I am a fan! It is quite lovely down there.
We cut across Paddy Creek Road after we lost the trail,...
Thanks, Owl. The entire trail is 17 miles. We circumvented the north east end of the loop (we lost the trail), so it was probably right around 12 miles.
Hoot, Kerflop, and I hiking the North and South Loops of the Big Piney Trail in the Paddy Creek Wilderness of the Mark Twain National Forest.

Count on it!!!
It was a great hang. I always learn something each and every time I go out into the woods, especially when with such a great bunch of HF folks.
Here is the link to some photos of...
I had a great time! Thanks to everyone for making out, and making it another memorable hang.
Here are some photos from the trip:

The sequester has ended?
But seriously, don't forget insect repellent.
This is Kansas. There is only a 10% chance....of the forecast being accurate. lol Don't forget swimsuits and snowshoes as well.
LOL! Hey, I had help (accessories).:D
For anyone who may have missed it. Here is the link to google maps for driving directions.

Update!!!
I had a very nice conversation with Bunnie Watkins (USACE--Perry Lake). Here is a few highlights of our convo:
1. I reconfirmed that primitive camping IS allowed along the trail...
I am thinking I should get a Jacob's Ladder buzzing and throwing off evil light in my laboratory.
hehe
(Not too sure about the "Master" part, e.g. my grandpa stove)
Awesome Dudorino! Glad you'll be able to make it. It sure would be wild to see a storm like that. I look forward to seeing you and everyone else out there as well.
The Kansas City Adventure...
Nice! That's pretty darn efficient.
Nice stove; nice percolator; nice video.
That coffee sure looked perfect to me.
Did I miss you saying ~ how much fuel you added?
