Good info, thanks much
I will add this. When I backpack, I typically use hiking poles. When I get to camp, I use the poles to judge the distance between trees. This means I have a pretty consistent distance, so getting...
Nothing scientific here.
I set mine up, step back, and eye ball it. Then later get in to see how it feels.
Welcome from Charlotte.
Sounds like a nice location you live :)
I don't have skin in the FS section as I rarely use it but I do have skin in the overall site/community.
I support the changes being made as they are a long term play to ensure we have mods on...
If this is the backyard I'm jealous. Tarp looks fine to me.
Welcome Beechgirl :)
Much thanks Cinnamon. That is the thread I was thinking about.
I always enjoy your trip reports.
I am motivated to get in shape before the spring hiking season. The rest of the year I just fall off and kick myself why I don't keep it up.
Anyone recall the guy from Norway or someplace similar things that also hung in extreme cold? His posts may be of benefit. I might try some searches tomorrow unless someone remembers better than me.

For your quilts, full length and 0° will be a lot of volume and warmth in summer. I'd strongly consider 20° and 3/4 length unless you really plan to camp outside when the temps are between 0-20°...
Any side sleepers with feedback on whether he needs the standard lay or the opposite lay (head right / feet left)? Not sure if the shelf gives a person problems when they lay on their right side.
Looks like good choices to me.
I don't use thwse WB quilts but imagine they are quality items based on the rest of their products.
I like the full size tarp, in part to keep my down dry. Helps...
Nice day to sit by the fire along the stream. Enjoyed the pics.
Definitely a classic hike in NC.. don't expect solitude, but the payoff makes it worth it.
It's a good one to put on the list for sure.
Thanks for giving it a watch ofuros
Thanks for watching Les... yes windy balds with incredible views.
Thankee country hang
I can't recall them providing coupons or discount codes.
You can check their blemish section.
Glad to help.
I'll admit I thought of this after I had the illogical thought of putting a hole on my tarp because it was driving me crazy. Rejecting that as absurd, it forced me to come up with...
A couple weekends ago a few of us (Firebird, Paddlemule, Chappy23 & I) backpacked on the A.T. near Roan Mountain.
We caught a shuttle at Mountain Harbor up to Carvers gap & hiked the ~14 miles back...
I was on a recent trip & shot a quick video on how I roll up my Superfly tarp & deal with the snakeskin air bubble.
I see comments every so often complaining about this so hopefully some of you...
I have the Wilderness Logics ones and they work well.
Beautiful hammock. I'm sure she likes that especially since you made it.
I love a good quick overnighter. Refreshes the soul
Agreed nice pics. I stop reading all fine print after it says nice views.
Welcome from Charlotte . Looks like a great rig you have there. Those designs came from some of the experts on here so you are in good hands.
Sounds like you have a great pup there Wiley
As others said don't give up.
It takes a bit to get used to sleeping in a hammock (though some just go comatose from the start).
Just so happens that is exactly what I did last trip ;) the episode with Shug was a good one to listen to on a long night.
Another in the club of sitting first, pulling TQ over feet, then swinging them into the hammock.
I'll put my pad in the TQ footbox before hand.
Welcome from Charlotte. Nice area you live in.
I have no idea what I'll be doing in February but I'll keep an eye on this thread. Sounds like fun.
In part I think it comes down to preference.
I prefer a full size tarp and use a Superfly year round. The extra weight I carry is part of the sacrifice I make to keep myself and all my down gear...
Welcome to the forums. Those Dutch oven trips are like thanksgiving - better wear loose fitting clothes cause the food is usually sooo good.
For your feet, one tip is if you have a small pad (like...
welcome to the forums from Charlotte. Love upstate SC.
That sounds like a great hike, well minus the GI issues. I'm impressed you stuck it out.
So was your food in the bear bag stuck in the tree?
Yari and Minna - great video. Yari running back for pancake mix, leaves falling from the trees, crisp air, a nice fire, cold breath in the air. I enjoyed it all.
I am curious how he pancakes and...
Thanks JSH. We car camped at the state park. Next time might have to check out camping on the river itself.
Its good to have video proof of her snoring so when someone blames me, I can blame the...
Incredible scenery there. And wow all the fish.
Awesome pics. Looks like a fine time.
Sounds like you have lots of great memories of trips with Buster. I'm hoping to have the same with Lacey. We do so much outdoors she better like it :) And thanks for the tip on tying the rope -...
What are you using these for Clean?
I will read a paperback book or take the kindle with me.
I also like to listen to an audio book or podcast on my phone.
Well I changed things up from the typical backpacking trip and got out in the canoe a couple weekends ago.
My daughter is going to school in Wilmington, NC and I've driven on 74 by the Lumber River...
I listened to the podcast on Tom today. Good listen. Interesting to hear some of his background outside of hammocks.
As to suggestions.. ATTroll & SGT Rock... if they are willing :)
Any experience/reports on Jones Lake or Waccamaw specifically? Curious how they are for hanging.
My suggestion is to go to a group hang or in lieu of that, post another thread in the trip section asking if anybody in your area would be willing to meet with you, especially if they have...
I finally listened to episode 1 this weekend while on a backpacking trip. Looking forward to this one.
Howdy from Charlotte
Good reminder. Thanks
