I can bring some firewood if needed?
Gonna be COLD! Better wear about 10 layers if you plan on riding the KLR haha!
Weather not looking promising on Saturday...especially for riding...keeping an eye on it.
[QUOTE=Troopers64;2047910]Absolutely!
Just to confirm: 4/23-4/25. I'll bring the 790.
Bringing the KLR?

I'm assuming you mean May not March. Those dates look good to me. Also, Smoky Mountain 500 trip is May 7-9.
Tarp worked out great...and thanks to Fluffy (purveyor of fine leather goods) for bringing the stovasaurus. If only we had a pot big enough to fit it.
Thanks for the tip.
Is anyone planning to arrive on Thursday? I'm debating on heading down either Thursday or Friday morning.
Well done. Like the sock trick. How do you secure it to your face?
BWCA is on my list. I get chilled just thinking about these temps....
Hopefully the road will be cleared by the end of the week. I'll bring a canopy.
:)
Put a trail of cat treats leading to the door of your neighbors tent. Best done after your neighbor is asleep. Just kidding of course.
I enjoy tinkering with different setups and find I will often switch back and forth between cinch and woopies. I used woopies on the JMT to save a bit of weight and provide more hanging options. It...
Pumpkin muffins?
Thanks, just checking. I'll try to bring some.
Any local restrictions on bringing firewood?
Very cool...so many hobbies, where do you find the time...
I may try to make it this year. Are the dates confirmed?

Just saw this thread. Did the JMT with Rain Man in 2018. He was 68 at the time...pretty amazing accomplishment. Of course, as the photo indicates, he took the occasional break, hehehe. He...
Very cool you’re pulling this hang together. Looking forward to it!
Heading into the Smokies and won’t be able to make it. Will be there next time.
We do a Bear Island hang twice a year so maybe you can make it next time.

Thanks for the offer RM. I'm gonna drop my jon-boat in the water.
Weather isn’t looking that great...Neo, are you paddling over on Thursday?
I’m planning on making it. Anyone have a kayak I can borrow for the weekend?
Enjoyed seeing some old faces and meeting new folks. Hope those heading back to Kentucky and Missouri weren’t held up by the snow. And thanks to Tyrod for the dry wood...looks like your mtn bike...
I’ll bring some fruit and berries for breakfast. Also can bring some eggs if needed...let me know.

I plan on coming down Friday afternoon. Not yet sure if I can stay one night or two.
You'll love the cuben tarp! You might want to contact Shayne regarding your old tarp as he's pulling together a hammock camping kit.
I’ll start doing my snow dance. Snow makes the fire feel warmer ;-)
I've been using a solar powered window thermometer for years. This is a similar model on Amazon for less than $8. ...
Heading that way around noon.
Sent you a pm Neo. Tee and I are planning to come for at least one night...maybe two.
Done. Honest review, 5 stars.
Thanks Nate. Great info. Appreciate the feedback.
Thanks for the great story. The trip obviously made an impression on you. I'm looking forward to the experience and making similar memories!
Yeah, will likely go ahead and do the 3 resupplies I originally planned. Would still be helpful to know what is stocked to help make the call. I'm sure a lot has changed since '88 but who knows....
Yes. Have a resupply planned for MTR and now a small one at OV. Trying to manage with just the two rather than another at Reds.
Question about using Tuolomne Meadows and Reds Meadow general stores for purchasing some resupply. Do these stores have dehydrated backpacker meals or just typical small grocery fare? Recently...
Unlikely you are doing anything wrong. Amsteel, although amazingly strong, isn't impervious to wear. With use over time, you will begin to see the line deteriorate at the points of most stress and...
Love the lake views! Fun video.
Encountered another black bear while setting camp on top of Mt Sterling this past Friday late afternoon. I’m guessing 200-250lbs. Although he didn’t act aggressive, he certainly wasn’t afraid of...
Appreciate the quick response and thanks for the insight.
Question on hammock suspension for JMT. Currently I use 15' straps w/Dutch cinch buckles (don't recall the name...beetle buckles?). It appears from others that have hammocked the JMT that 15'...
If interested, you can check out this link describing black bear winter behavior in the Smokies. https://www.nps.gov/grsm/learn/nature/black-bears.htm
Yeah, I see that...10, 21, and 24...as well as Spence Field and Russell Field shelters.
I’ve recently considered a motion activated night camera/game camera to see what comes through camp at night in the Smokies. I’d bet more bears come through without waking anyone than you’d expect. ...
