Hey all,
Some things came up today, and I will not be there for the 9am Canoe Lake meetup.
Looks like I'll have to make my way in on Saturday.
EDIT: I'll be there today, just running 3 hours...
While I prefer solo, I can certainly seat another if needed, as it's always helpful to have the extra paddler. I remember the paddle back last year (year before?) and that headwind on that stretch...
I can confirm. Was out at the east end of Algonquin last weekend and I'm still itching like crazy. They are relentless this spring.
Anyways, looks like I'm good to go in with the Friday crew....
Aww yeah, I want to make this trip! I have a couple other trips for May, but I would hate to miss this paddle.
Put me down for tentatively yes.
This time I will remember not to start setting up...
Sounds great, I'm definitely interested!
It would be nice to explore crown land close to Ottawa, I usually go near Pembroke for crown camping.
Update - Looks like both weekends are out for me. Best of luck to you all! Hoping for great weather.
I'd like to make this one! Went to Killarney for the first time this year and loved it. We camped on Philip Edward island, lots of free crown land and semi-developed sites, while still using the...
A few pics to add.

Rock Lake on the paddle out:...
Here I am, sitting at work, counting down the hours, thinking of how much over packing I want to do with such a short portage..
Maple canopy just went in peak colours yesterday in APP, we should...
Frost everywhere this morning, and my nose is clear! I love fall!
Heh, I am the opposite! Hurry and get there so I can slow down and relax!
Just get there safe, that's all that matters.
Side note - ill try to bring some cornbread biscuits or something...
Well, with those good ol' Canadian 2 lane highways, it's possible, but I can get to the east gate in under 3 hours from Ottawa, and west gate is only a 45 min drive from there. Granted I've been...
If I recall, it was roughly 5 dollars per a meal last time..
It's a nice drive to APP. I'd imagine 4.5 hours from MTL to the launch.
If you've never done the drive before, and you're coming via...
Sounds good!
I got m'self a Swift Algonquin 15' love everything about this canoe! Took almost 2 years searching before I found the right boat at the right price.
It's 15 years old but looks...
Modded the above list as I now have my own canoe!
Also I am in for at least one of the group meals. Will get groceries or pitch in for cost, whatever works.
Awww yeah! I'm in.
I'm definitely free on the latter dates (Sept. 26-28), so that would be my vote. Killarney (or surrounding Crown land, I know some good spots), or good ol' APP is good with me.
Born in Saginaw, raised in Lansing!
Love the Great Lakes!

Hey all! Sorry for not posting sooner. This year has been non-stop for me at work. New office opening in Calgary, taking on new work, people quitting, getting...
I'm going to be a Saturday arrival, providing I can stay on top of things at work this week. Time is still TBD, although ill want to head in early.
Sorry to hear you guys couldn't make it :(
I've ordered many things from
tableclotheSfactory.com
Fast shipping and frequent deals.
The other site without the 's' hasn't been in operation for very long... I bet its someone trying to...
If I can make it, it's looking more like Saturday in for me too.
Will update when I know more.
I wanted to chime in to say i'm interested.
I haven't responded because of the overtime I've been putting in at work. the 80+ hour work weeks will most likely continue for me until March, but once...
Sounds like fun! I would have loved to come in to camp/fish for the weekend, but I found out last night that I'm needed at work to put in some OT for a project this weekend. Bummer!
I love...
My experience has shown me a sharp needle (replace them often) and appropriate stitch length matters more than the thread itself.
Polyester thread is usually recommended due to its resistance to...
Thought about doing this at one point, then remembered how much 'fun' it was to package and weigh down..
Feather Industries is my go-to for down, since I'm in Canada, no duties! I've used duck...
Hey all!
Sounds like a great prep trip! Thinking about it now, probably pass on Valens. It's a bit too much driving for a 1-2 night car camping trip, since I'll be driving back from Michigan...
That's good news! I had no idea East gate would even close... Isn't that the one that is supposed to be open 24h?
As long as the owner of the permit has already came in and paid, we just go in...
Sounds good, Jayson. Same number. I have yours and will text you when I get close.
I come from the east. During the summer we are supposed to go to the access point to get our permits, but I'm not...
Hey all!
I'm back in!
I know, I know... y'all thought you'd got rid of me, well too bad!
I'll be heading in Thursday midday, pending canoe rental arrangements, and will see you all there!
...
Hello all!
Sorry for the late response. I've been watching this thread as always, but things are a bit more complicated for me now to go on this trip. Time off was never an issue, but finances are...
I'm in! Great gear, thanks for the giveaway!
I have 100 lb test dyneema fishing line. I definitely wouldn't use it as a ridgeline due to the possible dynamic forces involved with a full grown adult in a hammock, but guy lines would be fine, if...
I'm in for the 18th.
Will need to sort out canoes when we get closer to the date.
Spring and fall trips are my favorite! Can't wait!
Ah yes, sorry. They don't have it listed on the site, but you can call them and order, its not something they commonly have in stock. Should've mentioned that.
Good luck!
"Sale?!? Well I don't need insulation, so my wallet can stay intact... Oh that's a nice fishing set..." And there it goes. Just one click, friends, and your wallet will never be the same.
Congrats...
Welcome from Ottawa!
I get mine here in ottawa at:
http://www.thechandleryonline.com/
Nice little shop.. they had 680ft rolls for somewhere near $50. They ship to you as well, and also sell amsteel blue (only in...
Got a stand in the back yard!
If you are passing by Ottawa you are welcome here, there's also lots of NCC (greenbelt) land to sneak off to for a bit :)
Sounds like a fun trip! Enjoy and stay...
I like my DN but I'm 6 feet and a big guy. I've finally gotten used to where my butt's gotta land in the hammock so when I put my feet in I don't have fabric covering my head... Its a personal...
I thought all we do was complain about the weather.. Too hot... Too cold... Too much rain... Not enough..
High temps I can deal with, but the high humidity coupled with it makes me sweat...
Hey MrClockWork, your PM mailbox is full!
I wanted to offer 130 for the lens to Canada?
PM me if you have a counter-offer or want my postal code to look up shipping costs.
Ill take 10 yards, and I can wait for the roll to be spoken for.
Thanks!
Some places carry 2.2mm lash-it.
It works, but its still slippery cordage, and I would wager it couldn't hold up to bad storms or wind.
Its a shame the cordage they use seperates from the core...
Interesting... My 10% permethrin bottle has pull-out instructions for diluting and applying to everything from livestock to perimeters to 'outer' clothing, to dogs.
I sweat. Lots. So I can't...
In hopes to answer your original question: try putting the straps higher on the trees.
I used these straps for the first year I had my hammock. They just don't stop stretching... You might just...
Welcome to HF from Ottawa!
Keep an eye out the EGL (Eastern Great Lakes) hang threads in the trip planning section. There are larger group hangs south of the border, too!
Nooooooo!
Sorry to hear... That's the same way I do my hammocks, although I use longer stitches (4 on the machine)
I also do bar tacks at the edges. I'm a big guy and really toss and turn in...
Consider shipping to Canada? I'm eyeing that lens!
With the stock cordage and stuff sack, mine weighs in at 21.79oz. Tarp itself is around 18.5oz.
Nice little tarp, packs up small, reasonably light. Pitching it low to the hammock provides decent...
Check is in the mail!
