    The hammock body has no direction, but the net and overcover are cut to give it the asym shape.
    If you sleep the wrong way it can put extra stress on the overcover/net and can damage it.

    You can cut down how much shock cord your using by using it like you planned to on the mason line, over the ridge line. This gives a little stretch with out requiring more then a foot or so of cord.
