The way I made the UQ it is breathable, and I have had no problem with sweating. If you used all Cuben on one side you would have problems with sweating.
I did my under quilt with 1/2 cuben and 1/2 momentum 50. Each chamber is cuben on one side momentum on the other. With 12oz of down it came in at 19oz. So far I have only had ti to 35*, dut I was...
I made an UQ using cuben also. Took a differant route though. Made strips of cuben apposing 7d. I used 12oz of down. Total weight was 17oz.
Thats what I have been doing. Just stuff it. IMO If you fold in the same spot over and over you get a week spot.
Tested my cuben fiber tarp last night. They were calling for rain so I set it up in the yard. We had a storm that had 50 mph winds. I did not get wet but the tarp seemed like it was going to blow...
That about what I figured. between .75oz and 1 oz per chamber. Belive I'll go with your recomendation of .75 oz per chamber. Thanks for the reply.
I the inner layer 6.5" outer layer 7.5" to alow for room for down. It looks t be about two inches of space per baffel. Not square though.
There is 1 1/2 in more material on the outer layer. I plan to use 800 fill from storm crow or thru hiker. I'm just not sue weather to order .75 0z per bafflw or 1.0 oz per baffel for a 40* under...
Finished sewing my summer under quilt. Sew-thrugh construction. Its not a typical square, so I'm not 100% sure how much down to use. Its 39 in. x 68 in. So baffles are 6.5"x 68". There is 1 1/2...
Love cubn, this is my list so far. All mine are DYI
1. cuben tarp. 8.66oz
2. cuben stuff sacks x 8, 2.22oz
3. cuben pack cover. 1.45oz
4. cuben rain rap. 0.870z...
I'm going to make it 42 inchea wide x 68 inchea long. 6 oz of 800 fill down. 6 baffles running long ways. 1 oz of down in each. spacing will be 7 inches.
Any idea how much more material for the side that the u is on?
I'm going to do a under quilt for worm weather. Question is this. When doing sew through costruction do you leave som slack on the under side? I was thinking 42 inches for the side that is agenst...
Here is the underquilt I made 17oz 3 inch loft. Size is 70 in by 45 in.
I did a 1/2 cuben 1/2 55 momentum little different then yours. Each sectin is cubin on one side ans momentum on the other. Next one I do will be for summer. This one has 3 in loft and weighs 17 oz.
Cuben does not mist. It is 100% waterproof its fiber reinforced plastic, although very high tech.
Invest in a walking foot. Makes sewing sil alot easer
I made mine out of ,52 and it seems to be OK. I got a little .75 and there is not much diferance. After I use it for a couple of years I will know for sure.
Sweet when you can do your own stuff. Looks good.
Made mine, and it only weight 19oz. 3 inches of loft.
Down is diferent from feathers. I don't kow how to explane it, but they are diferent.
Ha Dutch how can I widen the opening on the clips it a little hard to snap the line on. I must be getting old.
Just got my Dutch clips today and they sure are cute little things.
It would be $400 if you DIY. That would be 3 panels then you have 13.5 feet wide x 11 ft. long. Any thing you cut off 13.5 side would be wast.
How wide are you thinking.
1. Baffles are No seeum 2 1/2 in high.
2. 12 oz of 800 down from Stromcrow.
3. Its 78 in X 52 in.
I just finished it so it has niot been tested yet, but my first thoughts are. The Cuben...
It the same inside and out, Cuben, then Momentum. each is oposite the other. This way the Quilt can breath.
Z-Packe is great. I finished my DIY Cuben T arp about a week ago. They were great and helping me with the dezine.
Well my 1/2 cuben, 1/2 momentun top Quilt is done. 3 In of loft should be good to 15*, easy. In the stuff sack it weighs 19oz. That makes Top Quilt at 19oz and Unde Quilt at
17 oz. This should be...
I sew it with a streight stich. Then go back abd do a rolled edge so the exposed edge is hidden.
Momentum is enough. I just did an UQ with 1/2 Momentum and 1/2 cuben fiber.
Thanks, from you thats high prase.
For me its been less spsace. I started about 4 lb. for the hammock. but I'm under 3 lbs now. There is a learning curve that you will have to deal with. Type of insulation, pad or under quilt. If...
Its $76 for cuben fiber $57 for the momentun, and $60 for the down. So with everthing about $210. For me it an't about the cost. I just like having things I did my self. One day I'll do the pack too.
I just finished my new under quilt 3 in loft, fulls size 70"X45". Weight 17.3 oz. in the stuff sake. Its made with 1/2 cuben fiber and 1/2 momentum. 12oz of down. I made 6 1/2 inch panels of each....
Ridgeline is sewn. I used a Feld seam. Same seam used on Jeans. Where I added the reinforcements I used Spectra. They added about a 1/2 oz. I used Amsteal like a pressic knot/whoopie sling. Is so...
This is my new Cuben fiber tarp. 11'x8.5'. Came in at 11oz in the stuff sack with 6 stakes. I was hoping for 9oz ,Still ok.
Sil Nylons is waterproof even if you tuch it. I have a rain jacket and its fine. It is hot though becouse it does not breath. Should be fine for a poncho. Sil nylons is not wterproof under presure. I...
I'm a DIY kind of person, and unless they are using some thing to bond that I can't get I will sew. I have tested both and my bonds do not hold up as well as sewing. Z Packs uses a Feld Seam with a...
Can anyone recomend a some what tangle free guy line for a tarp. I have been using 200 lb test bow fishing line but it tends to tangle. Thanks
I just ordered 3 yards from Thru Hiker for a planed remake of my TQ. With 1/2 .52 Cuben Fiber. Shell should be under 5oz. With 12oz down I should have a 20* TQ that is about 17-18oz. Cost about...
Keep trying and have fun, In time you should be able to do an UQ for 20* that weighs about 18 to 20 oz. or less depending on the size you settel on.
You will be ok with 7/64, I'm 230# and have been using the same woopie sling for about a year. About 40 nights total.
DC Dave, Rip stop is very strong in any wt. If you do a gathered end chair hammock I can't think of any reason that it would not hold you., evn if it were 1.1 wt.
The baffles are spaced 7 in. Its an under quilt 70"x 43". The chambers are 7"X70"x2". Six total. I came up with 980 cubic inches. The plan is to fill each with 1.5 oz of 800 fill down. On a test...
If you sew baffles that are 2 inches tall but the loft is 3 inches. which do you use to estimate tem. rating 2 inches or 3 inches.
Most of the ones I have seen still use some rip stop so air can get in for loft or let air out so jt can be packed.
I finished cutting out the shell. Size is 45 in x 72 in. Just need to sew it together. Weighed the parts and they weigh 4.72 oz. With nine oz of down it will be 13.72 oz. That will give me 2 1/2...
Thats my bad I thought it was all Sil-nylon, eather coated or uncoated. I have actualy already got the breathable part, went with Momentum from Thrue Hiker. Gargoyle it does add 1/2 yard, 1/4 yard...
At first I was thinking about doing an under quilt with cuben fiber on one side and uncoated sil nylon on the other. I shown that this may cause problems with condensation.
So I have decided to...
