Its been a couple of years since I've been on this trip and the scheduled date might work out this year. Should know more in a couple of weeks.
I'm driving from Minnesota to Colorado springs next week via I80 and would like to find a place half way to camp for the night. Does anyone know of a place not far off of I80 between Omaha and North...
Not going to make it this year. It would of been fun to setup in porch mode at the FBH.
I used my 20* full length with a 20* 3/4 length last year and was plenty warm underneath.
looking at past posts for hanging at Afton, site #6 seems to be the one to grab.
jpfam and myself are thinking of heading to Afton on Saturday for one night. Come one come all.
What site would you recommend for winter camping? I went there once last spring by myself and...
This is a great idea. With kids activities, all I have is one night opportunities.
I used my pad in my hammock footbox when using my 3/4 underquilt, Nice!
I second that. Arrived to the Bear Lake site around 11:30am last weekend and by noon there were two other groups wanting that site. Not a great site for multiple hammocks though. I was solo and...
Just reserved #1, couldn't wait any longer the reservable sites were starting to dwindle away. Hoping #1 has good trees for two or three hammocks
Which sites are right on the river? Looking to head up on the 11th and would like to reserve a spot for friday night.
I know you said not BWCA, but its the ultimate place for your setup. As Minnesotans, we are very blessed to have a million acre wilderness area dedicated for paddling right in our backyard. I do...
Its all about timing, and the steak was worthy of an applause!
We had one short portage that we were able to carry without unloading kayaks. With two people you can carry the boats with the handles on the front and back. These were 17ft sea kayaks that are a...
One of the best parts of the trip was paddling back to camp at sunset after an evening of fishing. So I created a short video of just that experience.

Are you trying to view from work? A lot of work places block youtube.
Spent four days kayaking in the BWCA to Lake Ensign with my son and friends. Lows in the upper 20's, highs in the 50's. Ice went out just four days prior.

All my food was in a food bag in the front hatch of my kayak. Either he smelled something or was just a young curious bear.
Last year in the BWCA I was camping on Lincoln Island on Basswood Lake and woke up to bear just starting to rummage through my gear under my hammock. I sat up, looked out and was basically nose to...
Are we talking blaze orange? I would like to see a picture of that!
Color is a personal thing, but I sure like my black/silver combo.
Not sure color affects performance, but having two quilts myself with one all one color and the other black on the outside and silver on the inside, it is a lot easier figuring out where to slide...
Let's keep that in the archives!
It was great meeting you blaktee. That was some awesome smoke from the fire (inside joke)! I'm glad you didn't get me on camera falling in the snow and not able to get up on the river hike!
Planning on it. I will be in Tampa till late wednesday night then heading up thursday morning sometime.
How did the mukluks work out? Did you use them for just around camp, or did they become your main boot?
I too partook in the outdoor slumber. It reached -17 here in Lakeville. I used a HG 20* Incubator along with a HG 20* Phoenix for under quilts and two HG 20* Burrows with a Thermolite sleeping bag...
Here are the coordinates of the parking area (Paste them into google maps):
47° 24.878', -91° 16.504'
Very nice! I was thinking of using my Keen boots for hiking/snow shoeing and just using the Mukluks around camp. Curious if the Mukluk could be the one all boot for a trip like this.
Pull It!!!
That's a great start, but I would get some test nights in. Last year was my first fbh, and I had about 15 nights of testing of different combinations to make sure I was going to be warm.
Going to...
I love my wool! Also looking into Mukluks...
Spreadsheet is now viewable and editable!
Thanks again TZ
Oops, I forget to test and see if I could edit. Looks like you have the access level to view only. You will have to set the access level to edit.
Were golden now! thx
TZ, I think you need to set the share on the spreadsheet to anyone that has the link.

When plucking the down off of a duck, is there ever a pair of socks around there body?
With your weight and height, either hammock is fine. It's really going to come down to what features you want. I have both and I'm 6'2"/200lbs and not an issue with either. I do like the extra...
Been trying to figure out what GSD stands for! German Shepard Dog?
Probably make a game time decision on that one to see what the temps could potentially be.
Oh yeah, I'm in for any kind of hike!
On the first page, it sounded like Fritz has the parachute...
I was a newb last year and Stairguy came over to me and made sure I was setup to handle the cold temps. He checked out out my hammock setup to the clothing I was wearing.
I'll be there!
Jan 16th - 19th 2014 would be the same weekend as last year.
I Slept through 1 inch per hour rain for six hours with my Superfly and stayed bone dry. Love my Superfly!
WOW! Amazing trip.
Nice job on the video. I really enjoy it when I get to see gear and setups.
I've got a few now. One on my garage frig, and a couple sitting on my desk waiting for just the right place to stick it.
It's like getting a gift card to Mills Fleet Farm, you don't want to use...
I tighten the head left shoulder side and footer right side and still occasionally the incubator slips off. My fix is taking a bit of shock cord and attaching it to the eyelet on the UQ just before...
