Thanks for the heads up!
Abundant driftwood hang stand materials on the beach. Study the tide charts.
The applications for no-sew pole mods (side hole) and porch mode (top cap) look particularly useful. I ordered two sets on the current kickstarter....
I have 180' grey Samson Lash it . Would trade for 100' yellow 7/64 Amsteel.
Some fine and easy hangin' in the Chuckanuts:
Great trip report and video! thanks for sharing.
You might try Alamosa style stake booms. https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/showthread.php/34348-Stake-Boom
Or Lonnie's multi-anchor loop rig:
If you make an effort (avoid the tourist traps and find a local market place) you can find excellent quality Mayan hammocks. Look for 100% cotton (burn a thread sample and smell it if you're not...
Angle of repose sold.
Georgia The WPA Guide to its Towns and Countryside still available.
Angle of Repose sale pending. PM sent. Thanks!
Run a whoopie as a backup?
Some great stories here! Some remind me of similar personal experiences - I was once on a bio survey at Big Meadows in Shenandoah NP where unbeknownst to me my lab partner thought it'd be OK to leave...
Nice vid! Always wanted to XC tour up there.
Good idea. Been thinking about repurposing parts of a bed frame for similar.
Had good results tucking blanket in between layers of my double. Great for warm weather.
Outstanding footage and flying! Great for camp recon.
Neither title is about hammocking, however both make good reading for those interested, and what better place to read ...
Georgia The WPA Guide to its Towns and Countryside - Phinzy Spalding,...
+1 on extra length. No shortage of trees to hang from there.
Spectacular moss/shroom forest all around lake Hozomeen. Easy hike but long drive on gravel (Skagit Rd.) but worth it IMO.
As climate change stress on bear habitat leaves bears starved I believe increasing bear-human incidents are inevitable.
Nice trip and photos! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks - good to know.
Interested in what you find out, and a photo if you can. I am considering a mirror XLC as I don't like head left, but fabric flopping on face doesn't sound good.
Interested as well. I'm 240# and while I'm unconcerned my RR will hold me, about 4" more elbow room at the cat cut would make a much more comfortable sleep for me.
Many years of camping in the PNW. Synthetics have saved my butt many times. That said, I love my down bags for winter but tend not to use them unless in the teens or colder. YMMV
Count me in!
Good to know. I ordered one as a backup for my Ridgecreek4S (for those extra cold hangs). Happy 5th Paul.
Surly Big Dummy hanger hauler el supremo.
Welcome AlexH! Been a lifelong dream to visit your part of the world. Keep on hangin'
Also doing this. Not worried re fragility as I pack extras. Got a dozen for ~$5 on ebay.
Good idea. You could also make a gender bender snap link (double sided M/F snap on a piece of nylon strap) and sew loop to it if desired.
There are awesome camping areas just N of Florence and Ft. Bragg. I love beach camping and it's fun to improvise hammock stands from driftwood (shovel and lots of rope come in handy). If you try...
Not checked the gap distance, but Ruby Beach WA, Kallaloch WA, South Beach WA, Florence OR, Mendecino-Ft.Bragg CA, Big Sur CA would be my hang targets. Have fun out there!
My pleasure (vicariously). Hope to see your pics.
Good choice! If you can't find an outfitter... you could maybe rent from someone selling:
I'm sure you'll find a good trip. Lots of beautiful country thereabouts. Some suggestions here: http://www.backpacker.com/destinations/category/148 and...
Ya, the lake trail is probably best for day tripping, but if you wanted to haul lots of gear it's definitely doable. In a pinch a shopping cart makes a dandy push trailer.
I've logged probably...
Good info! I've got a couple of duffle/garment bag shoulder strap load spreaders that I plan to repurpose on my tree straps.
Hat's off to HH trailblazers! From this and a few other HH-related posts, I gather the main problem is the tensed struts are too short for longer hammocks to allow sufficient hammock-ground...
Fancy a skate/hang? I've wanted to do this for a while.
It occurs to me that the pleasure of lateral acceleration of swinging in a hammock...
Sounds like a great place and good trip, equip malf not with standing. Thanks for sharing!
Very cool. Thanks for sharing!
Biked/hiked stretches of it many times. Abundant trees for stealth hanging. Also abundant Poison Ivy.
Thanks for sharing the fun trip report and great pictures. Looks like beautiful country!
See post #10. Would trade for mirror image (head right, feet left) WB XLC DL + winter cover + full length winter Lynx UQ.
Try a small pillow, jacket, etc under your right knee. More diagonal, and vary your position along long axis. Also often helps if head end is lower than feet end.
Hi makkan! Happy hangin'
I got my 4s by ordering the 3s and adding the upfilll option.
Nice setup! I've got a pack cover that looks like that....which just got multipurposed.
