Also, maybe no midge etc can sting through two layers of fabric close to each other?
The new stuff wont appear in print or on screen anywhere before the start of 2009.
The news I have are those the manufacturer sends to the dealers so they can make their orders for next year. This...
I had to make a bad xeroc of Exped´s flyer at work and the at home I scanned this one, so the pic is far from good.
The hammock is the "Scout hammock DLX" and the tarp the "Scout tarp Extreme", as...
This should probably belong to hammocking News, but I cant post there.
Today, at work, I had a look at whats new at Exped for 2009.
A complete set of Hammock, M-Net and Tarp!
Technical data:
Tarp...
Attach to tarp, pinch lots of holes in tarp, throw tarp into water, wait a while, pull tarp out, get fish. :D
Thank god, I already paid for the 10x12 to be sewn by the preachers wife.
So I am broke now and can resist any temptation, like the JRB Bridge hammock being on sale, too!
A good and inexpensive underquilt can be made, as mentioned above, by purchasing a cheap sleeping bag, or acquiring one second hand, and modifying it:
With a rectangular one, whose zip opens...
I have just unwrapped my new HH Explorer Deluxe and noted a curious feature:
at the tie-outs there is a short tapered tupe, covering the last 2-3" of the hammock body and being fixed with a...
A good and cheap way to avoid this is applying lots of dabs and lines of "Seam sealer" to the bottom of the pad. This will increase friction with the fabric of the hammock and no more pad-slip!
AND, in a Hammock, you touch the pad with almost all of your back. Which is something not happening when laying on the flat ground.
At least, thats the conclusion I made after having a nap of...
But there is also Rule No. 1 for a hanging spot:
if you can see it from the road, its no good!
I am only 5´9", but bought the long versions of the jrb quilts and never regretted it.
Yes, it definitly changed the way I look at the woods!
No, its enough to sell unwanted stuff on evil bay.
You wont believe what people will buy.
Guess, how I financed my already ordered tarp.
On second thought, "shockcord", being elastic, is not quite suitable for this
task!
It will take some time for me til I can sleep outside again. But what I want to try is this: with a gear hammock...
Since you cant dry wet clothes in a wet environment anyway, why dont you adapt a waterproof pack-cover for use as a gear hammock?
Take the pack cover, which is basically a rectangular piece of...
I think with using a very ligthweight fabric problems will only arise when the stitching is bad.
Its very important to keep an adequate distance between the holes. Check the other factory-made seams...
Dwight, you convinced me and got a pm!
Looks good, plenty of space under it and no worry of splashing rain!
Aint black a bit depressing as colour for a tarp?
With the long edges shortened too much:

I have no pic o this particular hammock with perfect whipping, but it gives quite an...
Yes, having a closer look at one of the pics in your gallery it seem for me that your hammock suffers from the "through-design" as did mine.
My experiences are similar. Have a look at these pics, where I have pulled the lond edges of my firs DIY-hammock a little bit too far:
(******, photobucket is off for maintenance, I post them later)...
On the subject of the side tie-outs, how (and how large) did you sew the loops (?) to the fabric to make them last?
And here is a thread about the above mentioned poncho liner having been transformed into one:

Scroll down to my contribution.
Right now, I...
...and making a quilt with it.
I stumbled over this and it worth sharing:

I am not sure whether this would be a sensible way of argumentation with the wife;)
Hello Mule, this stuff of yours look really good!
I would like to ask some questions.
The weathercover you are speaking off is shown in the top row of pics, first, second and fifth?...
Looks nice, but seen from a purely functional point of view: wouldnt any ordinary double-walled tent plus an Exped DAM 7 be simpler?
Moski, there is no need to spend that much. I sent you a pm.
Just make sure your friends and family are not watching when you want to demonstrate them how comfortable a hammock is by entering it (on one side) and promptly leaving it on the other side wih a big...
From those of you who haved used an Exped, did you experience as much built-up fo condensation as with a closed foam mat?
Myself, I can use any pad only for those short periods of resting in a...
My first and cheapest solution was to fit a second cheap hammock, like a Byer, loosely under the one I was sleeping in and fill it with a folded Poncho Liner:...
I got a HH Expedition (wanted an Explorer but got this:( ), slightly used, quite cheap:) and want to modify it.
The velcro entrance is killing my merino underwear and so I want to fit a two-way zip...
No, I hate pads. A good underquilt is all I need:D
Second hammock, filled with a poncho liner and/or spare clothes, under the one to sleep in. Works great and cheap and leightweight ones one like a Byer are great for this....
I forgot to say and show:

In winter, I always use a synthetik ponch liner as a roof over the ridge line. This...
Thats true with the € 100,- extra. I could have done without this and with a better (=more loft) down it wouldnt have been necessary.
But the JRB´s are not primarily for Hammock use, which wouldnt...
Working in an outdoor shop myself, i very much apreciate this kind of thinking.
Here is the kind of a customer who takes responsibility for his actions!
I aplaud!!
As an explanation, we had in the...
I would use down on top, because its so much more comfortable to sleep under it.
And synthetik below me, because of its superior resistance against humidity.
Well, I do recommend them! Excellent workmanship and design!
Its just that I am a stickler for warmth and use both at home as bedding, too.
As a for Hammock use, top or bottom, as mentioned in my...
I have both the NS and the RMNS.
With both I was at first dissapointed about the amount of down used:
When laid out flat, there were actually large gaps in the chambers, void of any filling. ...
Definiteley not, as long as you remember to press the two sides of the velcro together. They do need that to adhere, contrary to normal velcro.
I havent measured up the original sac yet, but I use one of these for the underquilt to carry at the pack. It fits easily with a bit of space to spare:...
It works excellent, at a very decent price, and the pack size is not too bad either for synthetic.
I like mine very much.
For value-for-money only, the BCUK-Wanderinstar system beats my JRB quilts...
Until I can afford the wallcreeper, and have decided whether to go with down or synthetic:
http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b50/kleinefluchten/im%20Wald%202007/DSC05978.jpg...
Probably immoral and illegal:D
The Wallcreeper PL is a superior design for wearing as jacket, due to the armholes, but its rather weighty.
The frogsac is the other way round, less weight and not allowing full movement of the...
Hello, This particular statement caught my eye, because it the same with me.
May I add my experiences?
I got rid of the pad very quickly, too much sweat building up. Also it f**** up the nice...
getting comfortable with the pad..
in a hammock is, IMHO, not possible.
Its cheap and leightweight, but outside this, it has not much value for me.
The advantage of a hammock is that it curves and...
