It shouldn't be a fear unless the animal is sick and acting strangely. I have never had to fear a skunk since they won't spray unless they have a reason to. A raccoon may bite but you can always...

I'll give this one a bump. I have had animals under my hammock. I've actually had coyotes sniff around. Last year I was watching some mice play and I accidentally left a cup of water out. They...
One item not mentioned here is that in some cases thieves would follow UPS trucks or the mail people in many areas just to steal the packages that are left. It's been happening a lot. Next time...
It looks like some people are not reading the full post. What was the toggle material and that could be why the toggle broke. If you were using fiberglass that could be the problem. Some people...
I'd have to say you made some great points. My hammock is subdued.
How about that they are expensive?
We had a campfire talk among friends and we started to wonder if wearing camo or other forest colors might be a problem. We finally came to a conclusion that sometimes it would not be a good idea...
My suggestion is that when you hang the straps, pull on them. It seems to work for me. when you put it on the tree, pull along the strap as hard as you can. This should "pre-streach" them.
That illustration is from his book.
Wow, if that's true it certainly beats the old tent setups. I could even see myself going for a week with just a few other extras.
Oh Yeah, that. especially in NYC. I have to hide my naked hammock in shame while others bling in the woods.
Am I the only one here with the power to resist? I have been endowed with that ability for many years.
I know it's been a long time. It was in New Jersey and I will not revel exactly where. I don't think a weapon would work if it really is a paranormal event. Oh, and one time there's a cemetery that...
I thought I mentioned that. Yes, put it on the lowest setting and try to at least get an air only setting. Remember, it's a synthetec material and does not take well to heat.
Nah, the foot long rats we have here would chew right through that fence in a second.
This might not always work, but you can treat the hammy like a tent or clothing. You can wash it in a river or lake, but make sure that it will dry or you'll have a wet bed. If you go to town you...
Gee, I live in Brooklyn too. I would not try that out since it might be rotted. I would also want a bit more privacy.
You can count me in for the one below. Thanks. Click image for larger version Name: Photo on 2-6-14 at 9.38 AM #2.jpg Views: 185 Size: 164.4 KB ID: 61699
I'll take it. I nearly froze in my area last weekend (and it was fifty degrees!)
I'm in. Thank you.
Now that's the burning question I've always had. I had done long distance hikes with an old rope hammock (you can check my profile) and at times I've found it necessary to do a few repairs. The...
Let's face it. In some cases an umbrella can be a pain. try going up or down a hill that requires you to use your hands. Think of the picture of someone using an umbrella and a hiking pole at the...
I only hope that there are no copyright issues here. I'm saving a picture from here as an awesome desktop background.
I don't notice any difference, but it could be the "old man creep" where you find yourself peeing more due to "manly problems".
More seriously, if it is in cold weather that you're talking about,...
I'd like to be in.
[QUOTE=dejoha;754030]Recent threads about the ENO SlapStraps made me reach out to my contacts at ENO to talk about the stretchy nylon material. To my delight, I was told ENO is upgrading their straps...
Shug,
You should warn people that these thermometers have a liquid crystal display that can be damaged or freeze in severe cold. Also, the batteries can be killed by the cold as well. I've seen...
Does it really matter? I was doing something at one time and when a female showed up (on radio) 5000 guys fell over each other and stomped on each others signals to talk to her. It makes no...
Same here. See my posting above.
here is something I said in a previous post on the same subject:
Here's a way to avoid any surprises. Remember that sometimes the tree you use may "eat" up some of the straps. That means that if...
I don't know if this was mention. I don't see it here. Will there ever be an HF Buff? I have heard there was one in the past.
Let's see YOU carry 90 pounds on YOUR back. Frankly I'll keep the amount small. I have to stuff it all under a couch. Anything new must replace or be a new item, and the item it replaces goes in...
There has been some talk around lately about "zombie" trees. They look ok, but they are actually rotted (or hollowed out) inside and can fall without warning. I think it's a beetle that's eating it...
I'm going to be hated for this. I just went out and did it all those years ago and haven't looked back. There was no forum. I did not need all the bling to sleep. What I needed to do was to set...
I think I'm the worst nightmare. YES I have everything I need. I can't carry any more on my back. After all these years I've narrowed everything down to what I really need with the exception of a...
I was going to start my own thread, but this seems to fit here nicely. During this time or year and in the winter how can you tell if a tree is a dead widow-maker. At this time of year it's hard to...
this comment was deleted. I thought for a moment the jerzy bears were talking about my secret weapon.
I have a bit of the same problem myself. It's usually because I'm either overtired, my nose is stuffed up or my sleep apnea. As for group hangs, I would be banned since no one would get any sleep. ...
You have never gone through the Vernon Valley? How about over Po Chuck? Waywayunda? There are places that don't have any pine. They are mostly other woods.
If you go off trail you stand a chance...
How do you hang on those monster trees?????
Don't you folks ever go anywhere else for these hangs? There's Waywayunda, High Point, Deleware Water Gap, Po Chuck and others. Just a suggestion. There are so many other places in New Jersey...
Here's my spin. There are two (actually there may be more) reasons for doing this. The first is that I have had a double knee replacement (both at the same time) and it's easier to step down from...
I do. Don't attempt to use it below 50 degrees. I have used mine down to 46 but that's pushing it. I use a pad underneath. Most times I use it in the hotter months since a 40 degree bag is too...
Then you will have the trees behind fences, and yes, in some places they make you carry out body wastes. I kid you not. This ain't happening for me either since you'll never see me and you will...
I have what's called buyer's resistance. It is strong and cannot be wavered.
Golum no like that. Golum keep way he is. If need Dutch can always fly over and drop on me. might be precious, for sure, but not precious for me yet.
I think I'll wait. I've been without it for more than 43 years and have not done any modifications or had any bling. I must be missing something but I'm not suffering. Maybe I'll get some when I...
I think that may become my signature if I stop the stealthing. "OUTLAW HANGER. Haven't we had enough already? After going out and buying 1.5" straps after using rope after all these years (43)...
Who are these people? Are they some self professed group? 2-4" straps, you've gotta be kidding. Ever try to do a marlin spike in 4" webbing? Forget it. Sometimes these suggestions go a bit too...
I have two Grand Trunks. They're great. However I don't bother with all the changes and I'm happy. The reason I have two is because I go on a lot of week long trips. If something happens I can...
