Lizzie, Thanks for the PM. That weekend is most likely a problem for me, but I will wait to see how things develop. Your chosen location will be a good place to hangout...
In the end, I put 3/4" square tube inside the 1" and use lynch pins to create an adjustable length of either 60" or 72". Its working good.
I do worry a little about a catastrophic failure that...
I thought about the winch... but its a crude device... but very strong. I agree that using the Jeep is a good idea, but it does take the Jeep out of commission when supporting the hammock. I was...
So here is the conclusion to my work... the anchor is three 9" screw stakes and a 13' continuous loop. The ground is very soft, so it took three. I expect most ground I will see on the Jeep trails...
With two trees this whole production is so much easier.
Just to clarify a little with pictures...
Some pics of test1 where height of bipods was determined to be too small. I ended up on the ground. The jeep was one anchor, a tree was the other...
So I am not the first to think of this option. I would gladly buy vs. make if the price was reasonable. My current design at 50" height is <$25. I am now thinking about some 3/4" square tube...
I am curious what your motivation is for the low angle hang...
what a great conversation, thanks!!
So it sounds like the bipods only change the direction of the tension forces on the rope (using 7/64 amsteel blue btw).
I guess my searching skills could...
On the cable stakes idea, I like the stability of the anchor... I don't like the work to retrieve it and the chance of losing it.
I thought about the ridgepole idea, but I don't like a pole above my head... and in my application the max length of pole is 56" in order to pack it in the Jeep. Having a two piece ridgepole would...
That is one of the types I am looking at, but a shaped steel wire will not have enough surface area to hold in loose ground or sand I think.
How hard was the ground you used this method in??
Its a 2008 Jeep Wrangler softop with front and rear recovery points and steel bumpers. (3" lift, 35" tires, rockcrawler) https://idisk.mac.com/jamesandrew43//Public/web/DSC_7834_640_480.JPG...
So in an effort to be innovative, I am trying to solve my unique problems as a (new) hanger. My rig is for Jeep trips where no convenient anchor points are available... or only one anchor (spike)...
I am researching this treeless hang subject for use with Jeepin in the desert (where I have bigger problems with volume than weight) and I am thinking about using ONE screw anchor per side. ...
I guess I have some things to learn... I am a noob and tinkering with the hang of my DoubleNest. After a lot of frustration and trial and error by means I won't bore you with, I tried a ridgeline...
I am curious how your stakes held. I tried rigging up something just like this and kept pulling the stakes out. Double staked it, same problem. i am 240# which doesn't help, but there has got...
I am working on a design just like this. I used 1" 6061-t6 aluminum square tube. The tube holds fine, but the stakes do not with my 240#.
My stakes in average topsoil will not hold!! ...
My Jeep group is heading up there soon. How are you hanging sans trees??
I am on the site tonight searching for methods to hang without trees. The Jeep on one side is fairly obvious... not...
Interesting read everyone. I am learning a lot from you all. Thanks!!
My interest is in minimalism when it comes to my Jeepin. Four people in a 2-door JK doesn't leave much room for anything.
