The old spreader bars had pieces that were 20" long, plus that odd 4" piece. The current bar set packs shorter, more compact.

The old spreader bar set used to have a 4" middle piece (male/female ends). You had a choice of using it or not.

They eliminated that short middle piece with the new spreader bars now.

When you say "taco" do you mean like a fold down the entire length? Depending on the user RR's tend to have that somewhat "confining" feel or "shoulder squeeze" to it even with an UQ.

I got a bunch of goodies in the mail today, most importantly, my new RR I ordered on BF. I also got a couple of other camping gear..... a ThruNite headlamp and a small Olight flashlight.

I have a couple of old sleeping bags which I converted to TQ's by removing the zippers and hoods entirely, and enclosing the bottom end for the foot box. They look ugly, but very effective.

That was my very first set up for a few outings with my RR. Getting in and aligning the BA was a bit of a hassle though, at least for me.

I'm mostly a side sleeper in bed but I can never get comfortable enough side sleeping in the RR. I sleep very comfortably on my back in the RR.

Thanks for making note of that. But as the previous poster noted once you get in the hammock that extra slack might get negated, at pressure points, leaving you with no slack.

I've never been laughed at, but always complimented, especially on hot, sunny days.

So, what works best for slipping between the double layers for temps down to 40? Closed cell foam, inflatable, down quilt? Is there enough slack in the bottom layer to maintain loft...

I go to Henninger Flats Campground pretty often. It's just a short, but steep, 2.5 mile hike above Pasadena in the San Gabriel Mountains. And further up there are more trail camps.

That wouldn't work for me because at most spots I hang the ground is rarely level. I use a spirit level app on my phone to sight the hammock from a few feet away and raise the foot-end accordingly.

I would assume with an XL version of the RR, the wider spreader bar will require a change in suspension geometry especially at the head end of business requiring even greater minimum hang distance...

From your post a month ago perhaps that "flex" you felt was a telltale sign. Unlike a carbon bicycle frame, for instance, I don't think spreader poles are meant to flex at all.

I cut up a cheap Walmart blue pad and rounded the corners. The seat pad fits nicely around the perimeter, inside the pack. It also functions well in the hammock to relieve your cold butt.

I think it's safe to assume that, in general, the larger the pole diameter, the more sections you can have, thus more nesting options.

Basically, don't scratch it. Scratch marks or slight gouges will eventually develop into cracks.

I thought my CF mountain bike handlebars were sexy too until they snapped on me while riding. That's one trade off you risk with any ultralight component that's subjected to any kind of load.

I've posted this before in another spreader-bar thread. I've been using these for a while now. Four sections of head-end bars and three sections of foot-end bars, all nested. Bundled, they fit...

Whatever the material, being able to slip the foot end bars through the head end inserts gives you so much more nesting possibilities.

I get a nice sweeping view out of my Ridgerunner.

But what if the foot end tubes were small enough in diameter to slip through the head end inserts? Then I think any combination can be configured.

Can you order these CF bars in 3 exact equal length (including inserts) head end bars and 3 nesting foot end bars?
