Some trees ooze or spit sap. Avoid those.
Welcome to HF! I have Czech roots via emigres to Nebraska in the late 1800's and then to South Dakota - my home state. Grew up eating poppyseed kolaches and more recently discovered the great taste...
The annual December hang at Da Shack is WI's gateway to winter camping. Good location, good food, and good fun.
No snow? No problem. We'll just rent snow-making machines from the Iola ski jump folks.
I'll be there.
Just added my moniker. See youse tomorrow.
I'm thinking that was my first cold weather hang back in '17. I've got that 1000-yard stare with a thought bubble that says "What fresh hell have these internet strangers talked me into?" I have to...
I'm left-eye dominant and write/eat left-handed, but am rather ambidextrous in many activities. As such, I sleep north-south in my right-lay hammock and cross my arms like Count Dracula.
...
Your observation is wholly appreciated.
Welcome! I reckon I'm mostly a typical mid-vert (if that's a thing). You found the right place to make yourself at home.
Ditto that.
I think the real solution here is to always change into clean underwear upon leaving your abode. Ann Landers gave that advice more than 50 years ago and it still holds true today.
"...but it's so...
While backyard prepping for an upcoming trip to South Dakota, I set up my Tensa stand next to my Tato stand to pass the time while waiting for seam sealer to dry on a 13' Superfly tarp. I've never...
A great hang always has a great host - so thank you Tumbleweed.
Also - you have the best rocks at the best prices and they grow all over your site!
The sun may be extra warm for a few days, but it's still May and I bet that Sunset Lake is still rather cold.
Hey! I resemble that remark! ...but it looks like the weather is going to be fantabulous all week.
Welcome to HF! You've come to the right place. There's always something to learn and lots of people to ask.
Only two weeks to go. No copy-cat posting allowed...looking at you Goobie...
Bumping - to get eyeballs on the best hang in WI.
I'll put this on my mental calendar and do the best I can to make it. Thanks for announcing since it's always a good time at Da Shack.
I've used a Blackbird XLC with a bugnet topcover (and a Wooki UQ) for 5-6 years. Mostly winter time, but plenty of summer use as well. The only time I've been bit by skeeters is when my foot would...
:thumbup1:
Your past posts were so abundant I didn't realize you were missing. Or maybe time is really flying by.
Thanks for the update! My canvas sock and Molly Mac Backpack are so useful - can't say enough. Glad to hear you are keeping the juices flowing.
I've ruined a strap on a square post by not paying attention to where the stress was being focused. The landing was soft (on my fat butt) but I learned my lesson. Round posts for me - given a choice...
Welcome to the best place to find info about upgrades on the internet. May your search go well!
Yea, I think I've passed 180k with my 2015 - which is about the dollar amount that Mr. Goobie-Jeepie spends per year trying to keep his junk off the permanent concrete blocks in his driveway. But not...
Option 1 feels like it has a chance to be successful. Have you considered making a prototype with a sacrificial hammock or are you hoping to catch lightning in a hammock on the first try - to save...
My 80 year old uncle says frequently that he won't die of Parkinson's, just with. He's very knowledgeable about the meds he takes and will advocate against any staff in his facility that try to dose...
I reckon you're knot serious.
Looks like at last 6 who will be there F-Sa-Sun. I will bring one bread crumb and a sip of water for each person.
bump - it's getting closer
While sleeping, I wear an Arctic Armor ice fishing hood that covers my head and neck completely with a small oval exposing eyes and nose. If cold enough to need eye protection, I wear a thin beanie...
I like it. It makes me work hard in thought (read it more than once) and creates a desire to see where you were.
Thanks for posting. Didn't know about this area until today. Beautiful formations.

Not at present. The forecast is calling for 1-3 inches of snow over Friday and Saturday, but I suspect it won't stick around since the temps will hardly dip below freezing - even overnight.
We can always send some Jeep owners to town for breakfast items. They think they are heroes, but really are just useful...
Carver (from our forum) posted a great thread and video on this topic a few years ago called "Hazard Trees".
I've paired a Tato stand (13' ridgepole) with a WBBB XLC for several years now. You're right - it's a delicate task to get the foot end high enough and the head end low enough, yet still get some...
Correct. Best wishes on your project.
Yes, these poles are from Warbonnet back in 2017. Three-piece construction that is 54" when assembled plus 3/4" pole tips for a total of 55.5". The ribbons connecting the poles to the tarp guy out...

Welcome to HF - where untying knots in your suspension and guy lines is probably easier that deciphering what we've written. We exist for questions. Answers are another thing altogether. Seriously,...
Love your flame, Bunsen

Post cool poem, Benson
(apologies to accomplished haiku artists and OP)
My friends and family think I'm rather odd (nuts actually) because of my enjoyment of winter camping. I repeatedly tell them that I don't go out in the winter to be cold as I'd much rather be warm....
A true busman's holiday. We'll have a toast to your Beercation around the fire.
Final Gravity or Three Blondes Brewing? or both?
Kitty-treat?
They got it good and then some.
Much of the consideration around hammock socks is centered on temperature. The colder the temps, the better they work. Canvas socks work very well at 0° F and lower. Condensation becomes an issue at...
Weather-wise, it was as good as it gets. No wind, no rain, no bugs and stars galore. Glad you could join us, JeffP, and same to all who were there. It was a very, very good hang.
