I have the Harbor Freight straps, got a two pach for $2.50 and cut the hardware off with a hacksaw. They work great with my Whppie Slings and a marlin spike.

You might consider spraying the patch with something like "Camp Dry" also. I would think that the patch itself would wick water once it gets soaked???
