Count me in. Thx!
I had the exact same thing happen with 1 inch black poly webbing from Joanne Fabrics. I agree with what has been said above. The webbing sold at JF is not nearly as strong as what you can get from...
I agree that it is unnecessary. I considered it as well, but opted out and still got fantastic results with both a hex tarp and the larger "winter tarp", both made out of sil-nylon.
BillyBob thank you so much for your reply. I'm happy to report that we had a great experience up American Fork canyon at Silver Lake. Will try and post pics later in week.
I recently had the sheath on my z-line stripped while using a Dutch clip also (fairly certain I was using 1.25mm z-line.) Granted we were in some family windy conditions (not sure of the mph) and I...
Hey everyone,
This is very last minute, but I'm looking for a place to go camping tomorrow night with a friend of mine while im visiting Salt Lake. We will of course be taking our hammocks. The...
I sewed double-sided Velcro to the corner reinforcements of my tarp. The Velcro wraps around my cordage and keeps it contained.
I can't attach pictures right now, but here is a link to the DIY...
I remain a fan due to my obsession with modifying and tinkering with my hammock setup to make my camping experience better. Browsing the forums is also a fun pass-time for me. Unfortunately given my...
Sweet! Throw me in the hat too. I love HF! Thx!
Thought I'd post a few pics of my second DIY tarp. I finished this hex tarp a few months ago. I used Scott's design (thanks Scott!) with a small mod that included sewing a small piece of double sided...
I work this Saturday otherwise I'd try and sneak away and join all of you. I need to do a group hang and have someone inspect all of my DIY gear.
Yeah! Hangin' in Minneapolis.
Brief f/u on our trip to Afton. The rain paid us a visit in the evening and a little bit in the early am, but we were prepared so it wasn't a big deal. I got to use my DIY winter tarp for the first...
Another point to add: I saved some money on my tarp by getting the fabric at a discount fabric store near me. By the time I finished the tarp I wished that I had just spent the extra few dollars for...
We're heading to Afton! I'll watch out for hangers!
Excellent! Ellis I used the instructions provided in your links and finished my project. Thanks for your help. As an aside, I found that I was able to use the method that uses both ends despite the...
Well, I just got off work and have to gear myself up for packing and then leaving tomorrow AM. I'll post tomorrow by 11am if we are going to go or not. If we go, it will be Afton. What are the...
I also have a question on splicing. I've eye spiced loop in 1/8th inch 12 strand amsteel according to sampson's instructions found here and am quite comfortable doing so:...
My wife and daughter (both ground-dwellers) and I will be going out this weekend. I work late Friday, so we'll probably head out Saturday and stay until Sunday morning. We were thinking about going...
How was the trip? Was a goog hang had by all? Perhaps we should try and get people together for a hang somewhere near the cities and see what kind of turn out we get. My schedule is always extremely...
I agree with pizza regarding Lake Maria and Afton. Regarding amsteel, I bought some at west marine as mentioned above. They only carry it at the store in the western suburbs (forget exactly where,...
Yeah, I see what you're saying. I'm still curious to know if anyone has any experience making a cat cut along the ridgeline and if so, whether or not it made a difference in the tarp. I've made...
I've seen several hammock designs that recommend putting a catenary curve in the ridgeline of the tarp (not just the edges). Is this something that you would recommend doing for the hex tarp design?...
