Thanks Scott, this is brilliant! I've bookmarked it for future referance.
I should probably set the basic sewing sheet as my desktop background ;)
ho ho!
Great videos, and an aspirational set of kit. Thankyou for sharing.
Welcome Brownie! Fly fishing in NZ on my to-do list, I'd love to take my father back out there in the near future. Fly fishing, rugby, friendly people and stunning scenery - it's almost like going...
Hi and welcome from Somerset. :-)
Hammock. If I'm going to die in a storm I want to enjoy the show.
When you're talking about a lightning strike the only way to stay safe is to be somewhere else at the time. The sheer amount of power released will super heat the tree and cause it to explode....
Hi and welcome :)
My brother in law calls me a Hamper, a hammock camper.
Welcome from the UK!
I agree that water and hammocks are a good combination for a trip. I'm looking into getting a packraft first and seeing where that takes me. (yeah, down river!)
Great pictures Fronkey. I think the country club shot is going to be hard to trump!
Good review, thankyou for sharing.
I don't think the breathability issue really comes into play until you start talking about differing climates. Frontline would be the hammock of choice for a...
Nothing as exciting as a bear or a snake, but for what it's worth this is my most memorable animal experience.
Camping out in New Zealand while on a fishing trip with my father (pre-hammocks) and...
Yes I believe you are right. I popped an order in for a 3x2 in olive. I'll take some pictures when it arrives, after the field test. If the pictures are of snakeskins, then I guess a picture is worth...
I like to raise my angle of hang by 10 degrees or so when using my hammock as a chair. And yes, any hammock can be used as a chair, just some better than others and imo the key factor is the width of...
This is what my list looks like currently.
1. gravity water filtration system (looking at the Platypus
Cleanstream Gravity Filter System)
2. 3 season down TQ and UQ (matt@ukhammocks, i'm looking...
Those look really good Yukon. I think i'll be making a few when my amsteel arrives, I can only hope they turn out as tidy as yours! I prefer them to continuous loops also for the reasons you stated.
Ok so I stumbled on a guy from Thailand making his own tarps and hammocks. He seems to just be getting started, from what I can tell. The description for his current tarp reads:
So along with...
This is a great method that hadn't occured to me, thanks for sharing!
Also, glad i'm not the only one who noticed Uma Therman's thumbs! It's been freaking me out for years. That and Angelina...
Those look great! I like the hammock/tarp idea, since when im out there's always someone who turns up without a hammock and I rarely leave without some kind of tarp, even in the summer.
I think your estimate of 1.9oz for the polyester material used to make the Frontline sounds correct. The only way to be certain is to ask Nick at DD :)
Hi Geordie and welcome, from deepest darkest somerset :)
Hi from the UK :)
It probably wouldnt hurt to self flagellate with some whoopie slings either
Edit: Well ok, it would hurt.
As I said in the other thread, I'm looking to get some great pics for you in the coming month! I've spied a few spots already and am in hot persuit of permissions / moments of oppertunity.
:D
When I'm in the new house I have plans to devote a room just for hammocking with all my gear strung around and wall hooks so I can sleep out in there, on occassion. Just don't tell Mrs Dogstar! She...
I've found hammocks are cheap, it's the extra comfort that costs.
I'm well up for this! My mind is buzzing already with concepts!
Eric, i'll give you a prize myself if you can provide a photo of yourself hanging inside Durham Cathedral :D
Best of luck Shug.
I'm glad you included the wolf sighting, since that's the number one most inspirational moments in all of your videos as far as I'm concearned.
And -26? I'm all shrivelled...
Fantastic photos, thankyou for sharing them.
The child in me wants to ring that ship bell! :D
Indeed. Next up: her first overnighter!
Sharing what I've learnt on these forums with her is proving almost more fun than putting it in practice for myself. Thanks again to all the contributors.

Hi and welcome Eric :)
I love the woods too!
Bore da Paul, shw mae?
Another welsh national here, currently living in England but looking forward to moving back this year.
Welcome and have fun!
So I got Mrs Dogstar to try a hammock. I ordered her a DD scout as a starter hammock. At just £15 english pounds it's a good way to try hammocking for anyone as vertically challenged as Mrs Dogstar,...
I can relate to this thread.
I've recently talked Mrs Dogstar into trying out hammocks. The main priority is warmth, if she's cold she wont enjoy it, so insulation is a must. Wine is a good idea,...
I can totally relate to that. Hammocks have ruined my appreciation of stand-alone trees. :(
As someone who likes to gear up on a budget I'm using a sleeping bag conversion as a UQ/pod. I would advise keeping the footbox on since a footbox can be a wonderful thing to push your feet down...
Yep you can't argue with $35. At that price I'd consider getting one shipped over here, looks mighty comfy!
Ahh that's a shame. I did some hardcore googling and found the thread on bushcraft. It seems that the site is a victim of its own popularity if anything, but I've heard some good reports from...
Hi Hank!
In my experience that's perfectly normal. I hope you enjoy your frontline, I love mine :-)
I have a cheap pad that I've been thinking of using to the same effect.

Jim from Taunton, Somerset County here.
Lots of great wild hanging to be had down here, well worth a visit. We've got Exmoor, Dartmoor, Blckdowns and Quantocks right on our doorstep.

Hi all, I'm Jim from Somerset County U.K.
I was introduced to hammocking this spring by a friend and havn't looked back since. I was sleeping on the floor under my tarp looking up at him in the...
