all the cool kids still have Draumrs
my son is currently taking welding in trade school
I had him attempt to duplicate this build, exactly from this very video
it's hot garbage, and it's not going to hold much more than 100...
i'm a dedicted stomach sleeper, so the draumr was about the only option for me
exped synmat 9 has been very comfortable for me, inflated as fully as I can get it
I've got a synmat 9 in my draumr, and I've been fine down to about -14c (i stack 2x CDT diy quilts)
when it's colder than that, I've used a wide wool quilt underneath me, mostly to help absorb...
count me amongst the continuing interested as well. I'd definitely be curious to see a padless 90 degree, that hopefully is as comfortable as the draumr
i mean it's a clark. if you've got one, you're already not a gram weenie
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4FmTCkgMyOQ
I always think about this one when someone brings up a clark
I bought one on a whim about this time last year I guess
I've also been pleasantly surprised with mine. it's a pretty good entry level, full featured hammock. when you get it side by side with...
i was curious about this one too, until I saw the price tag.
Draumr is cheaper, jeje
draumr's and 90* hammocks are getting on 8 to 10 years old already!
now that I've used mine for the summer, it's definitely a pretty decent entry level bugnet hammock
it's comfortable, doesn't stretch too much, and I don't experience any shoulder squeeze in it,...
as someone who owns hammocks with zippers on both sides, and only 1 side, make sure you get a bugnet with zippers on both sides, heh
You'd have like 3 feet hanging extra on each side of a draumr, heh
submerging it in a pool/tub should find it the fastest, tbh
yup, I was gonna say, a Haven, or an Amok draumr are essentially hanging cots (air mattresses, but same same)
man. that's actually pretty interesting looking
whether it's feasible or not, be neat to try
is the haven pad that bad?
that makes zero sense
it should INCREASE r-value
(ie make it work to lower temps)
the Ridgeline is not adjustable
yeah, don't stand on it, that's just asking for problems. either you're going to damage the air mat, or you're going to prematurely wear the fabric
when the strap is all the way OUT, is...
you need the opposite baffle pads for the amok vs haven
I would not try to use one for both and expect a good time
the amok can accommodate 72 or 78 inch length pads, the xl will need thr xl...
So now that Shug has joined the Jeeping fraternity, I got a good chuckle out of watching his Hammock Hitch video.
My kid is just entering post-secondary this year, and has been accepted into a...
its definitely not a 3, likely a 5
i always recommend the amok Draumr for folks with bad shoulders
I suffered thru frozen shoulder the last 2 years and the draumr was great for me
I would suspect this is the answer
yeah, I absolutely wouldn't recommend it either
i mean, it's absolutely doable, but I wouldn't
I picked up the zippered hammock on a whim, as I was gifted an amazon card, and was eyeballing Shug's Hammock Hitch video at the same time. realized i needed a gathered end for it, not a Draumr
...
amok draumr
(the haven tent likely works as well)
sleep on your stomach

basically Apollo 11...
yup, I use an exped synmat 9 with my draumr
it was the main recommend mat before they made the fjol
the 12 foot refers to Ridgeline length, amok only need 9 foot, so in that regards, tons of length
you need a much wider tarp for the draumr tho, at least 65 or 70 inches, each side
the pad will fit, but it won't fill the pocket
it will be usable tho
I'd love to see it rigged up with the draumr
yeah, fairly quasi...
i mean, it's a decent solution, but doesn't really compare
we're getting smoked with yet another blizzard, was hoping to get the draumr out in the yard to play
once your inside, and settled
Haven vs Draumr for comfort
oh there will be some more experimenting coming this summer. we're almost down to bare grass in the yard now, hopefully couple weeks
i think we need to talk about that side saddle exit, more than anything else
i'd kill for legs that long, lol
they're definitely trying to hit the car camping crowd
not gonna lie, I'm definitely considering a haven for the wife, for when we're camping with our little trailer. she loves the Amok, but...
I would wager that the amok folks looked very closely at the exped when designing the fjol. they're very similar pads (I'm pretty sure Jonas built the original draumr around the exped)
what pad do you use?
I've got the exped synmat9, and it completely fills the pad pocket
unlike some others, I also like the pad as full as it can handle. some like to fill only 2/3 or 3/4...
neat, that actually looks like it fit on not too badly
I fiddled with sliding a whole sleeping bag over the footbox, but it was such a pain to get in and out, I quickly abandoned that idea
hrm, you definitely shouldn't have space under your knees
the default position is flat, with the straps allowing the footbox to droop down...
for wing insulation, I've always just added a...
In winter I always just added a thick wool blanket to mine, especially since I want a bit more width for the shoulders.
a 2nd pad would also likely work just fine
I think it's the most sensible choice for vehicle supported hammocking out there.
it breaks down small, sets up pretty straightforward. it's the most forgiving of uneven ground
and its small...
reminds me a lot of the j-bend
this is one of those super subjective things that's hard to measure, but...
I personally find the exped synmat9 very warm, and I'd be comfortable using it to -20c no problems
as others have...
Turtledog style or similar works really well too. for indoor, I'd be awfully tempted to go with a pipestand. dutch's wall anchors would work well too, if you've got the appropriate spot
...
it seems like an almost ideal canoe camping option
weight is less of an issue (unless you have a ton of portage) and you can pick whatever little island you like, ideal trees, or no
my wife...
iirc the biggest changes from v1 to v3 was how the ridgeline was setup
early on it was the same type of material as the straps, and you could actually disconnect the hammock from the ridgeline (at...
I've got an exped synmat 9.
I've seen the fjol, it's very heavily influenced by exped imo
exped was designed as a tent matt, so going to ground is non issue.
I suspect fjol would be just...
