Hey all, have been enjoying some casual DIY sewing. I should really take some classes… Maybe someone can help me though. When I'm sewing a straight stitch, I feel like even though my stitch is...
Sweet just ordered a pair, they look nice!
Yeah, that makes sense pgibson, though I just searched your site for "grosgrain" and was unable to find it. :( You mention the 1/2" in the Lineloc 3's description but the referred product is...
Thanks pgibson, will keep that in mind. Using 3/8s at the moment but it doesn't sit well with me! =)
It seems like most of the linelocs would best take 1/2" grosgrain to secure it to whatever you're making. All I have seen is 3/8" and 5/8" grosgrain - but I have seen a few photos of right-sized...
I think it is the same Costo down throw, he said he shortened it which would give it more loft. Grapenut, I hear ya about the seam ripping, did it on two of them myself. Wife helped out some once I...
Have a link? Getting bunch of different results with all sorts of stuff from goose and duck to down alternatives, etc.
I wonder if a few design implementations would fix that, like loops or clips to tension multiple points of the tarp to the ridgeline. I'd like to try and make this sometime, just need to find some...
Would this work? I'm sure it's been tried before, it seems like it could provide a super lightweight wind protection or sun shade on leisure hangs. Some of the tieouts could be shock cord so the...
Good stuff - is that fifth pic an interior shot of the bag? I'm assuming the mesh is a little pocket there? Cool.
OK, cool, no need for more pics then I just thought that was cool. I'm not familiar with double layer hammocks at all (yet), have been making single layers. Have four more to do for friends in the...
Looks awesome! Did you offset the fabrics some so that the opposite color would come out on either end? I like the way that looks, a close up pic or some description would be nice.
Cool, nice high quality images I can get some good tips for better stitching, etc. I wanted to use grosgrain on the bottom of mine as well but didn't plan far enough ahead to put it in the right spot...
Did anyone make one of these last night? Curious to see how they turned out.
Yeah, that's a good point, it could roll that way as well. I didn't plan my pockets out too much after I got the initial straps/whoopies/stakes pockets. I just went "eh this looks like a good length...
The pieces were the same size and yeah, folded over itself. I didn't think about compensating for the pocket size because they are laid flat down on the fabric. But the "pocket piece" did "shrink" a...
Sure!

I remembered wrong, I used two rows of stitching like Xtrekker used in his video. Better than one row, but not three. I will keep that in mind, thanks.
I wanted something to store stakes and sap-covered straps in, so I decided to make a roll-up style gear bag. I didn't do much planning and measuring aside from eyeballing, and I'm certainly a...
I believe I made my channels Xtrekker style, folded hem, fold channel and single stitch and close ends, then fold again and stitch for a double layer of fabric. I could add another row of stitching I...
Thanks NenjaBen, I will order some new thread when I order the materials for the hammocks. I'll keep an eye on the couple of hammocks I made as well. Haven't noticed any issues in the ~five times...
I had some Mara on this year's Christmas list and linked to diygearsupply's Mara 70. I ended up getting some as a gift, made a few hammocks with it and only now thought to check the diameter. It's...
This reminds me of using cinch buckles on my hammock and tightening them down way too hard - had to rig up reverse tension just to barely get the strap back out lol
I tried to figure out how to make one of these pockets with seams that folder under the pocket (I'm not sure the correct term, you know, when you sew with wrong sides out then turn outside in), but...
Sweet! Model number should be on the machine somewhere? And if it's semi new I would imagine there's a downloadable PDF manual online somewhere. Got my sewing machine this Christmas and been having...
My order came in today except I only got 1 foot instead of the 125 I ordered! Lol the receipt says "Ordered: 125, Shipped: 1". And I only got charged for 1" + tax + S&H. Called them and it should be...
Thanks gmcttr, might have to do some measuring to figure out what setting 8 stitches per inch is. I think the feed issue was just when I was starting the bar tack at the very edge of the webbing, so...
OK, cool, think I saw that chart earlier too. Do you have a short/medium/long stitch length usually?
Hey guys, quite new to this all. I did a practice run (until the bobbin ran out, whoops) on some webbing before I make my first tree strap. I was hoping I could get some questions answers or some...
Good to know. A little out of the way from Tacoma, but I'll have to keep that in mind next time I'm up that way.
Picked up 125', couldn't convince myself I needed enough for free shipping unfortunately, lol.
OK, glad I'm not wrong in thinking that fabric stinks. I'm not sure where I got that link from then, oh well, going to hopefully have some HyperD coming soon!
OK, that makes sense. The first one I sewed channels on was a tablecloth from here: http://tableclothfactory.com/product/list/60x126_tablecloths/108 but honestly the fabric seems quite heavy and...
Is it a thing that if your channels are very narrow/skinny, you will end up with more of a circle of fabric as you tighten up the cord that runs through it? Whereas if you make the channel larger, it...
OK, cool, that fabric looks great too.
Sweet hammock! I just got a sample pack from ripstopbytheroll.com and was pulling at the 1.0 oz HyperD and it was deforming a decent amount, but I couldn't do the same with the 1.6 oz HyperD sample....
I have been using cinch buckles similar to the Crazy Creek ones shown here and twice now the webbing has shredded, causing the hammock to fall. The first time it was very clearly because the buckles...
Yup, had my webbing strip out of a buckle system too when the buckle must have been twisted a little. I am now making sure my setup isn't twisted much so the webbing flows straight into the buckle.
Probably just for a fun day hang? Unlikely they're all camping under a single tarp like that lol. No clue how they do it but you could probably get risky and tension the first hammock tight and step...
Whoopies and sinch straps look nice, but question for those who have tried both (as I am looking to pick up one or the other) - here in rainy Washington, would the whoopies be an improvement over the...
Anyone find that the webbing used in these cinch buckle systems holds more rain water that runs down into the hammock than a whoopie sling setup?
Thanks guys, will be giving this another try today if I can get some more materials or next week.
Been trying to get this to work with 7/64th AmSteel for the past hour and cannot jerry rig it with the supplies I have, ugh! 'Bout to bust out the credit card, but that doesn't help for my hammock...
