I've tried a number of fabrics and the MTN 1.2 is by far my favorite. It's just a perfect balance of all aspects for me.
Nice work!
Since I make my own gear I notice more things with sewing than I used to. I’ll say that, IMO, EE has a little better construction/stick quality. It seems more “professional” than cottage. My...
You’ve made many posts about your excitement for using this as bug netting/top cover. I’m curious to know why you’re so excited for this application. While it can certainly be used, it heavier and...
Agree on anything longer than 11ft (for an 11ft hammock of course) being a waste as you will indeed have to pitch the tarp high to clear the hammock suspension. Also consider this...These tarps taper...
I guess the reason I brought this up is: 1) Because I wanted someone to confirm my numbers in that they are indeed different. And 2) to educate the folks on here who consistently say there isn’t any...
Yes I’m only talking about the distance between the ground tie outs. 91” vs 72” is a pretty big difference in coverage that never really gets mentioned when someone is asking about the differences.
Reviving this thread as I have a question on this and no one seems to mention it on any of the superfly vs other brands threads. Isn’t the base length (length between ground tie outs) longer on the...
Never mind, I figured it out.
Hey folks, I’m finally building an xl wide winter tarp. I was going through the math and realized that if i follow the usual winter tarp plans ( diy gear supply, RBTR, etc.) the doors won’t be long...
Just to clarify for the OP, Dutch Xenon IS 20d Silpoly, aka silicone impregnated polyester.
Have you ever had a quilt without a sewn footbox? If you're a cold sleeper and you don't plan to use this 20 degree in the summer, then I would highly recommend a sewn footbox. My first quilt was a...
No problem! And for the record I wasn't out to prove you wrong. I was just trying to make sure you didn't end up with a less-than-sound tarp for a thru hike. Which, btw, good luck! I'm super jealous...
Also from the first post of the intro thread:
This fabric would actually be even lighter than our ultralight Membrane 10 taffeta, but we wanted to add something extra special. For the 7D ROBIC,...
I am sure. I've both used it and am very well versed in the offering from RBTR. Below is their statement from the initial launch thread . Also as I stated above, you'll want to remove the .75...
I want to point out that the .75 membrane you have listed in the tarp section IS NOT a waterproof fabric. It's a downproof material for quilts, clothing, etc. Also, while the Mountain 7D can be used...
This, I believe, is your answer. A lighter material such as 7D or 10D WILL drape much better than the 20D you're using on your econ quilts. It's unfortunate, but IMO you need to spring for the...
This one is highly regarded, especially by folks on BPL. I ended up grabbing the Engels (Also listed on SailRite's site) but only because I found a good deal on eBay. Otherwise I would have just gone...
Thanks Carter, great compliment coming from you. This one will actually be a synthetic clone for a buddy of mine. Once I knock it out, I'll have a better idea for how I want to tackle a down version...
Right on, thanks! Just ordered my first round of M10 RS for a new Wookie clone. Excited to get my hands on it for the first time.
Curious on if/when you plan to release more colors in this 10D RS as well as your 7D RS?
They are going FROM 10% TO 30% overstuff.
You might also consider a hot knife before spending too much on rotary blades. That’s what I primarily use now and it’s a dream to cut with.
Did you take a look at the tempered hardboard I mentioned? it's a 4'x8' sheet that has worked very well for me with both a rotary cutter and a razor blade (cutting DCF).
Tempered hardboard work great and it’s dirt cheap at your local store.
Switched to becket hitch with venom straps this year and I’ll never go back. Minimum hang distance was an issue on numerous occasions using whoopies or UCRs. Becket straight to CL for me.
You need to start with your chamber layout. What do you like? Nearly all cottage vendors use different designs so I would like at all of them and decide what you can and want to sew. You’ll need...
I used a 1.2 robic all this year that I cut down to 63” before sewing and absolutely love it. My first hammock was a 1.6 hyped with a starting width of 65” and I actually like the 1.2 much better....
My wife weight 70lbs less than I do and there aren’t any issues. One thing you’ll have to do is hang the heavier person’s hammock proportionately higher to compensate so that you both end up...
A couple pieces of advice. I decided to add three equally spaced cam snaps to snap the quilt to the hammock.. This worked out great, however my initial mod was only 10’ long and I have an 11’...
I did the exact same thing and couldn't be happier.

Email or message Dutch and ask him to only purchase the hammock side of the zipper. I've done this for myself and three of my buddies. It's not worth my time to make the bug net when I can get it...
Interesting, a double overhand has never pulled out in my uses.
Yes I'm ultra pumped to see the WPB finally available to us. This will make stellar rain gear. I'll be making some rain pants out of that ASAP. Agreed on the burnt orange, it looks to be way deeper...
Most all DCF is dyneema fibers sandwiched in mylar, This just has an extra layer that accepts printing. I would say the SOL UL bivy/blanket is better suited for what you're after since it's...
Love the look of the burnt orange. However, I want to know more about the WPB DCF that randomly popped up on your site. :D
Also, if you care to know how I sew baffles, I put out a video on YouTube.
https://youtu.be/__y6tw3MwU4
Very good and yes I agree on theoretical vs practical. For that reason, I starter from both outside edges when marking baffles and meeting in the middle. In your case, round up to the “.25” number...
A couple of things. Achieving a "lofted" width of 55" won't be possible with standard 58" wide fabrics. Based on my calculation, you will lose roughly .3" of width per chamber due to lofting (based...
Interesting...
You’re correct, if you’re sewing it then you can just fold it. I cut it because I do fully taped seams which have to be overlapped. If not taping then folding is the way you’ll want to go, one less...
1/2 yard is what I always use (I’ve made them for many people) and it works out great. Cut your piece in half so you have two 18” x 27” pieces. Attach them along the 27” edges so that you end up with...
What is the total width on the yeti with the extra fabric? It’s basically a hammock so assuming the full width of the yeti is a a fly the same as the hammock, you would only have the sew straight...
I ordered down from Dutch last year around this time and the down is loosely packed in plastic bags that are simply stapled at one end. As such, the above method definitely would not work with down...
Yes, I would really like some more info on when this will be out.
You should! This one is treating me very well. I’ll be using it this weekend out at Red River Gorge as a matter of fact.
Curious how you came up with those measurements? Based on my numbers using the HHCalculator, this stand is perfect, especially if you added a couple inches to your continuous loops to be hooked right...
While it's not always pretty, I prefer to seam seal the outside. My reasoning is that the stitching never gets wet at all. If sealing the inside, the outside of the seam will be exposed to water and...
I had this same dilemma with needing to consume some of the webbing length and moved to using the Marlinspike hitch. I just run my webbing around the tree and back through itself then I pretty much...
