Was able to hang for the first time since getting my Winter Nest. Had a cold spot right between my shoulder blades. I didn't feel any gaps. Cure?
I am going hiking on the AT in June (Front Royal to Harper's Ferry). My under quilt is rated down to 10 degrees. Will that be too much?
I ordered mine early March, received it in 4 business days.
What about Greylock 4?
Shug don't you have one? Think it would work with bottom entry HH
Quick follow up, got to 20 and realized the issue was my top quilt. When I got cold it was the top and not the bottom. Looking now at JRB High Sierras Snivler.
Last night got to 21 degrees. Was cold but realized space blanket had shifted and didn't reach my shoulder. It 24 now and I'm snug as a bug in a hammock [emoji1] Might drop below 20. Extra layer...
Hanging this weekend with my Explorer Ultralight and SS. Going to be right at my comfort limit (28 degrees). Going to try something new, putting a lightweight sleeping bag between SS pad and outer...
I think I will go with the Winter Nest and High Sierras Sniveler. Sadly, won't get my bonus until March! Just in time for it to warm up.
Thanks for the input. I saw the specs on line and the Nest didn't look like it would take me much lower than my SS. SO I am leaning towards the Winter.
Shug- question for you - in your experience...
I have a HH Explore ultralight with HHSS. That set up gets me to 28-30 degrees. Thinking of getting a Nest UQ to go lower than that. Which would be better, Winter Nest or Nest? Is the Winter Nest...
I regularly go down to 28F. That is with SS and over cover, 20 degree bag, and down hat. Adding a warmer bag and placing a light sleeping bag under pad should get you to 20.
Thanks for this info. I wondered if I would really save weight. It seems to me it is the adjustability that is the reason to switch. For me I'll keep the stock suspension.
I have had good experience running a very light line between the o-rings of the tarp. Acts like a ridge line to a large extent.
Welcome from central Ohio! Lots of great places to hang in Ohio.
Shug, I was watching your ridge line video and was truly saddened when Green Bean ripped. I have learned so much watching you and Green Bean. Thank you for your informative and entertaining videos.
I have a Hennessy and love it. But I am looking to go to a lighter set up. I am 6'4" and 275lbs. I would like to go with a gathered end hammock with whoppi slings. Are Amsteel whoppi sling able to...
Oh, and just got my Shug t-shirt. Whoooo buddy!
BillyBob58 - have you ever tried either (1) a vapor barrier under your top quilt to create an imperfect but reasonable full vapor barrier when combined with HHSS? or (2) an "under quilt" - old...
BillyBob58 thanks for the comments. I'm am using the bag as a quilt - I found trying to get zipped in a real nightmare. I wear a down beanie. One comment that has stuck out is about what to wear to...
I'm 275 (hope to be under 250 someday) and feel very safe in the HH Expedition. Any rating is the weight something can hold comfortably over and over again. It is nowhere near the max it can hold.
Just a word of caution. Make sure whatever you attached your hammock to is designed for lateral stresses (most porch supports are design only for vertical stresses, i.e., support to weight of the...
Thanks for the video link! Minus 26 - Whoooooo buddy! So your set up for that trip was closed cell foam mat, sleeping bag, pad, space blanket. That makes a lot of sense to me. What did you have in...
Got out again this weekend - it got down to 26 degrees. I tried the double radiant bubble pad over the regular pad in side undercover, didn't seem much different from just using the space blanket. I...
I have been using the SS this spring a couple times and like it. I got down to 26-28 degrees and was reasonably comfortable (I actually think my 20 degree sleeping bag was the issue). Although the...
I have the Explorer Ultralite and love it. Although the fly is small, it will work in most rain situations. The real issue is with rain and wind (side ways rain) - but that takes a very large fly to...
Thanks, I am going to take a down vest to put under the pad. Wear it at night, sleep on it at night.
Great info here on the SS! I had mine out last weekend down to 29 degrees (first time using). It felt like it was near the limit for me. I also have the HH double radiant pad. Has anyone tried...
I went camping last weekend. Temperature got down to 28 degrees. I was using the SS with space blanket and over cover. Although it worked, it felt like the minimum temperature for that set up. My...
I am relatively new to hammock camping. Still working out the kinks. Last night used my Hennessy SS for first time. Got down to 29 degrees very comfortably. Not sure I would go much lower than...
The concern is how they are attached at the top and bottom, some are held in place mainly by the downward pressure of what it is supporting.
Be careful, most porch poles are not designed to take lateral stresses. You may rip the poles out.
