Just wanted to bump to see if anybody was looking today that could help.
Thanks!
Looked at the sticky and saw something that might work but it is a little close to the start.Would love to have a better halfway point and also looking for what is available in Michigan. So......
And then I just saw the sticky for Hammock friendly campsites.... I'll be checking that out first...
Hey everybody!
I tried looking online and searching on here but I couldn't really find the answers I was looking for. Here in a little bit, I'm taking a trip up from Kansas to Michigan. I'm...
I just made one with 1.9 nylon on the outside and 1.0 Hyper D Nylon on the inside. It was the most comfortable hammock I have made so far! I'm a pretty hefty guy and it worked great for me! I'm going...
The wife and I are on a budget for our camping supplies. I have found that I get gear faster when it costs less money. So when I can diy, I generally end up spending less than half of what I would if...
I recently made a table cloth hammock for somebody. I'm a big guy and I have laid in it with out problem. I have suspicion this person didn't follow instructions for hanging and was also letting...
What did you use for insulation in the UQ?
I'm pretty sure my snoring keeps most of those critters away. We don't have bears here in Kansas. An occasional mountain lion, but that's about it besides the Coyotes. I enjoy listening to them when...
I think Shug likes the Ursack.

This comes with a nifty carrying case. Almost looks tactical if that's your thing.

I've read a lot of posts on here about guys who are normally side sleepers and they sleep great on their backs in the hammock. As for me, I find that generally I end up on my side in the fetal...
You had me going for a while!
I think I'm going to need a bigger bag... I'm sure there are some light weight options for the toggle. I guess I need to head to Home Depot to figure all the logistics out.
I bet Dutch is just...
Hmm... maybe you could just use the webbing AS the hammock.
I know right! I guess you could just use it only around the tree and then suspend the rest of your suspension off of that. Course the 12" probably lends its self to extra stretchage.
I've seen threads talking a lot about which width of tree straps are best for protecting trees. I think I have found what I want to use!
...
It isn't the lightest thing, but I've been having good luck with it. I get some super strong webbing from http://www.uscargocontrol.com/Webbing/1-Inch-Polyester-Webbing.
It is 4500lb breaking...
Lol... I think this thread got Hijacked!
1. Um... too much?
2. Both with Whoopies and webbing and rings
3. I didn't milk my Whoopies. Ended up on the ground. Also with my webbing and rings, I...
Hey you have a better eye than me lol. I totally forgot that the ridgerunner was a bridge. Yep I use a gathered end. The bridge hammock has intrigued me... I just haven't gotten around to checking...
Hmm... I usually have a hard time getting out
Could be cool. Just remember to hang low the first time you try it!
I've hanged and hiked through some good rains and I've always hung dry! Don't forget about the drip line on your suspension or some sort of water break. Otherwise you might get damp.
Wow that's a bummer about the Noah Lamports. I'll have to make sure I check closely if I order from them again.
+1 on the Noah Lamports. Really help full there too! Just give them a call.
Not sure if you still need it but... Here are some great winter tarp designs.
http://diygearsupply.com/diy-guides/tarps/
+1 on the tarp material. Looks heavy...yet cozy some how...
Welcome! It's a pretty cool place to hang out. Lots to learn here! Don't hesitate to ask questions.
I'm curious about the review from Shug that this tread talked about. Maybe I just get really excited when a new Shug video comes out.
I'm usually not that picky to make sure that they are exactly the same length. I just try to get them close and make sure my loops are big enough for the suspension rings.
What about the...
Recently I've been toying around with getting rid of my hardware and going with the Sheet Bend Knot on my suspension... I'm not totally convinced yet though.
Nutty Squirrel, that is awesome! I think it would be pretty neat to be able to fabricate my own stuff like that!
http://www.arrowhead-equipment.com/diy-parts.html
They have them there at arrowhead equipment. I'm pretty sure they are about the same setup that you can get from warbonnet. I'm not sure if you...
The first time I used Whoopie Slings, I ended up on the ground in the middle of the night. It wasn't that I fell... I just didn't milk them and so I gradually slid down to the ground over the period...
Wow! Who cares about the -40F! Shug, I'm impressed by how quickly and thoroughly you are responding to everybody! THAT takes effort and endurance.
Just kidding! That's pretty neat on the temp....
If I'm not worried about space, I love the horseshoe shaped travel pillow. It stays with me in the hammock and gives great support. If I am worried about space, I'll stuff a jacket into my UQ stuff...
I used the baggie method. When I filled the zip lock bag I held it way down in the bag and moved very slowly. I had some fly-aways but not nearly the %10 that I have heard of. I also used a big...
Ahhh! Too many options... brain isn't working. I don't think it will fit into my plans right now. :( Too much traveling to do in the next few weeks with a baby on the way. Got to hang on to what we...
What would the price be per pound? What fill power?
I think my wife would love some of that purple polka dot down... if you run across some, I'd love to know, that would be awesome!
Hmmm... I'm not sure about the difference between white and grey either. Well besides how they look different. If it saves me some money, I'm not too picky about the color. I guess if you have some...
I understand the economy problems and issues with cost of down going up, but I was shocked when I saw the new price on the Wilderness Logics down! It is still a pretty good price but I wasn't ready...
Sorry... I completely missed that earlier in the thread... Thanks though!!!
Generally, how much down is in each pillow?
Is it the same stuff as this?

You might try smaller pieces. I have a 2'x2' square that I use and I just put it between my hammock and the UQ. I can move it around easy and it doesn't mess up my end and give me gaps. I just slide...
Stuvin-
I made a 4 layer. I did use the design from Diygearsupply. With the sewn darts in the fabric, the goal is for all the end widths to be the same so that you can hem the end easy. This also...
The other thing that the IX NEEDS is the gap between the sheets. You have to cut it so they drape with just a little space otherwise they won't hold the heat. It is kind of like how down won't stay...
I think you will be surprised how warm it will be when you dial in how to situate it. I was down to single digits with 4 layers. I emailed Diygearsupply when I was making mine. He mentioned that each...
So I checked my calculator. I think you would need something like 10 inches of loft if you were using down.
