That sounds awesome! No WAY the better half will let me escape but i can dream
Wow quite an undertaking, i like it! So far it all sounds good but i might recommend you make sure to use a breathable material at least for the bottom panel to help eliminate condensation and allow...
Might i suggest that instead of amsteel you pick up a string hammock (bought one for the yard at canadian tire for about 10 bucks) and hang it above your tarp? Same effect as the more expensive...
Is it wrong that i love you? Lol I'm in!
Thanks! I appreciate it
Glorious! :-)

We did indeed get some hiking in, really pretty area. I am anxious to get out to one of these hangs (wife permitting) and it will ge great to finally meet.
Nice idea! Definitely on the high end for price though you are right.
If you look at HH website they carry a non waterproof topcover that adds quite a bit of heat to your rig but allows condensation to evaporate through. Fairly cheap too if memory serves.
Wish i had the space and a wife agreeable to it :-)
They are handy arent they!
Ive never tried to make a hammock before, would this material be good for me at 230lbs?
True enough, if you are camping on a site with power you could absolutely just get a heated blanket!
Takes alot of stuff to put together and i think it would be too much stuff to carry around but if im car camping it could be a worthwhile venture.
Hahaha love it!
I sure hope so acer, im kinda psyched to try making one.
WOW! You sir, have skills!
Me too, worst case scenario i have the most unique UQ around
Also, check out this item for charging after dark :D
www.biolitestove.com
Charge up a couple different battery packs and only turn on the blanket as needed and i think we could get it to work, gotta get a couple prototypes before i can say what could work best.
Agreed but the eskimos wear their fur on the inside against the skin, apparently it traps the air in and keeps them vastly warmer then if it is on the outside. Easy enough to try both ways i guess...
Lol no no the fur is worn on the inside with the liner on the outside. Nobody would even see fur to be honest.
NICE! I'll try to keep up the flow!
I think i can pull this fur thing off pretty easy, heating is my true Nemesis!
See thats what i was thinking too! And the dry cleaner is a great idea.
+1 on top quilt and tarp
Oh that DOES look cozy doesn't it!
Was he using it for top or bottom? Laying on or under?
Most likely, but if i had it put together with a bit of forethought i could have it designed as a wearable poncho as well? As for air, if the fur side is against the hammock but not super tight you...
Anyone have any idea about the insulation properties of fur? If i could find an old fur coat and recycle it into a 3/4 UQ i wonder if it would be as effective/more or less effective than down? Anyone...
Well i DO enjoy a good game of dodgerock....anything to keep me busy :D
Well no doubt itll take me some time but i will try to get pics of all my miserable failures
Haha i actually thought about something quite similar to this but dismissed it because of the amount of setup involved with it. You can't set it up ahead of time because you'd have to weave it...
Haha! Heated hammock! Figures they dont carry it anymore?!
Agreed but then dont i also need a much larger tarp setup to accommodate it? Also not really small enough setup to backpack in is it?
Give up now and save yourself the bruises and lack of sleep
Another route im going to have to look into thankyou!
!
Definitely worth a once over than, you:-)
See thats not fair shug, you make it all look good
Nice! Love the range of ideas im getting from everyone! Going to try a bunch of different things and come up with SOMETHING useable :-)
Ooh ya i think the cost of destroying one or two of those would be a bit much :-)
BRILLIANT! Im buying one of these asap!
I know they are available on the market and they roll up fairly small. Just a question of matching the right panels to the right batteries to supply sufficient power. Trial and error time begins soon...
Exactly, i need a light weight rechargeable battery that will be strong enough to handle the intermittent draw for a night but will fully charge via solar panels over the course of a day.
Yes...this could work. Maybe combined with a rechargable battery set up with a flexible solar sheet. Somehow incorporate it into a sleeping pad and recharge the battery all day with the panel. Now...
A good idea but i think weight would a factor there. Looking more along the lines of a pad or blanket that can be turned on for short periods just to heat under your butt or shoulders etc. Point...
Agreed, those pads are great across the kidneys. My goal here is to try and MAKE something though :-)
No worries, i just love new things like this to let my brain loose on :-)
Think we may be on the right track with the heat tape! Gonna grab some supplies the next week or two and start tinkering! Let you know what comes of it and you can count on half the million for sure...
